Diesel ignites with compression, gas ignites with spark plugs, never forget it and NEVER use the wrong colour container. You did the right thilng getting it out of there before trying to start up. We all have had something happen that gave us a fuel story. Pax.
putting diesel in a gas has no long term consequences, it will idle rough and smoke a little but once you burn it out its all good do not put gas in a diesel it burns too hot

If you accidentally put diesel into a gas engine you’re supposed to throw a lit match into the gas tank. This will get rid of all the diesel in the gas tank
