Nice and clear and not too long and drawn out.
Thanks!
Welcome
Sirji nice very useful informative well demonstrated session
Thank you very much for the support
@Hemant u did a very good job in such a short and crispy video you covered a wide topic. in our case we are using Satellite server how can we upgrade 7 machines to 8
Well redhat has provided a complete procedure for hosts managed by Satellite. So there instead of providing an offline DVD you will have to enable foreman_plugin_leapp puppet module at satellite end.
Very detailed and straight forward. Thank you!
Welcome
Nice sharing Hemanth
Thank u very much
Thanks Hemant, it was a well explained, to the point video. Just wanted to know, how much time this entire process would take ?
Well we started with taking initial downtime of 3 hrs, later with confidence we are able to close under 45-60 mins
Simply extraordinary
Thanku
Thanks, the video is short and helpful 🎉👍
You are welcome
Really excellent explanation thanks you so much bro......
You're most welcome
@hemant bhai thank you so much ,
Welcome brother
Thanks Hemant, looks great doc .. will check and let you know..
The way you explained this video made this upgrade super easy. Can you also put something from 8 to 9 as well?
Thanks and definitely we will bring next content
Hi sir,
Its very useful tutorial thank you. I am having a question, you are upgrading OS so what about the apps running on the server? is the app automatically adopt the new version or do we need to install application again?
Great job,
Just one question:- is this possible for centos as well or will only work with redhat subscription enabled version?
Well I never tested it for centos, still I believe if you migrate centos to redhat, this procedure should work over that as well.
Very informative, thanks 👍
Thanks fro the video, it's very helpful
Thank you
CentOS 7 to RHEL 8 is there any direct way?
🙌🏻🙏🏻
Thanks
Welcome
I did all the steps but I get the below error:
Message: Unable to use yum successfully, any advice ?
Good efforts thanks
So nice of you
Fantastic content
Glad you think so!
Can you please make one Video upgrade RHEL 8.9 to 9.3 ?
Hello, i have a question after downloading the zip file, i am unzipping it but i am getting error message "gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now.
Please help me out
Thanks for your concern, appear that backend tar file on redhat end is not valid, I will check and update the links
@@technotesofhemant8338 thank you please update and let me know.
Thanks @LearnToEarn & @Wajid Arif, for pointing this out. We tested that and noticed that the tar files are no where available on redhat portal and their download steps are no more required as latest version of leapp already having those steps.
So we have updated the knowledge doc learningtechnix.wordpress.com/2021/10/18/linux-upgrading-from-redhat-7-to-8/ with the required steps and will update the video tutorial to highlight that section soon.
Thanks for the video. I am getting downloaded to a html file and also i am not able to download directly via portal even though i have login. How do i get leapp-data4 file ?
I was trying without subscription, few months back I was able to migrate the 7.9 to 8.6 but when I try now I facing many issues , could you make a video on that , without subscription and how to remediate errors while doing it
The procedure might have changed, we will have a look and try making updated videos around that.
@@technotesofhemant8338 that would be very helpful, I was trying this on azure rhel vm ( without subscription) , was following the same which mentioned on Redhat site but unfortunately, anyways thanks for reply will on the notification so that won't miss your videos thanks for helping many
Do you know a way on accomplishing this for an offline without internet access RHEL 7?
I believe yes, Download the ISO and provide updated binaries from there
How do you do this on offline system?
Hello, if you are doing this offline(no internet access for subscription manager) do you have to setup both rhel7 and rhel7 repositories?
Though I haven't tried it offline, still yes you will be requiring RH7 iso/repo for initial system update and leapp. And later RH8 repo for actual upgrade.
what creds we would use to login cockpit?
Hello dear,
You can try your usual system credentials.
Hello is there a process to automate the OS upgrade?
Well I have not tested that, but i believe you can certainly do that
Sir hmre pass web ka running server hai uske package ko update ni krna mai chta ho ki same package rhe aise ho jyega rhel mai update
Yes you can exclude package using yum command
I have my Linux 7.9 installed on AWS hardware, can we use this method to upgrade on AWS h/w ? or it doesn't support on that.
By Aws hardware if I am understanding correctly your RHEL vm is running on aws infra, I do not see any issues other than network drivers compatibility maybe...
Am getting error like " DNF execution failed with non zero exit code , container sysroot failed with error code 1" while rebooting the server after leapp upgrade. Help me to solve this issue
Can you share the complete logs
@@technotesofhemant8338 it is like 95% upgradation completed but after that it's going to " emergency mode with the above error ". I tried to come out from the emergency mode and reboot the VM and I observed one thing that kernel 4.18 available during reboot. I rebooted with kernel 4.18 and after booting done am unable to login the VM it's showing last login but not opening. And again I reboot with lowe kernel version am able to login. Here that DNF error didn't shown during pre-upgradation and upgradation.
Ok let me try once and get back to you on the same. Anything special with your rhel7 machine that i should keep in mind while doing testing?
@@technotesofhemant8338 this is one of the server used in my organisation, we are using proxy .
I have a plan to update my test satellite server.. how i can attach the test satellite server to production satellite server
Satellite works on concept of capsule, so i assume you can make your test satellite node capsure server of main satellite server
@@technotesofhemant8338 thanks for the response.. how we can do that any doc you can refer me
@hemant ---is it redhat 8 or 8.xx ? please confirm the latest version
Well 8.x actually pertaining to which repository you configure
Nice video
Thanks a lot
@hemanth can you upload rhel 8 to 9
hi can you do an upgeade from 8 to 9 video?
Hello Admiral,
Noy yet as testing on it is still under construction
Hi Hemant, I have an airgap environment where I need to upgrade from RHEL 7.9 to 8.9 without internet. Can you please guide me for the same? I'll share my email once you acknowledge this message.
As per my understanding you only need internet connection to provide RHEL8 packages, if same could be done using a satellite or an ISO leapp supports providing path of repository as well.
how to go to web UI???
I you have cockpit enabled on redhat, you can login to webconsole provided by redhat
8.4 right ?
How i can see the rh79.technix issues report? thanks!
