Haven't seen it yet, but it sounds similar to "The Changeling" with George C. Scott - moody, atmospheric, someone moves into a giant creepy house - but mainly, to me, the idea that real-life frailty and death are way more scary than some guy with a knife. I'll take my chances with a masked killer any day!

Perfect? I sorta liked it but perfect? There so many unanswered questions. What's with the surreal nightmare about the hallway? What's with the old fat dead man? What happened to the mom? Why was the doctor lying about cause of deaths? What's with the doctor? And Connie? Who was Junior to Rita?
This used to be a staple on late night Aussie TV, I'm so glad it's finally being recognized. Two others from Oz you may want to look at - Patrick, and Dark Age. Great movies.
Great slow burner. I rewatched this one over the summer after having seen it years ago and was pleased to have enjoyed more the second time around. They dont make 'em like this anymore. I just watch two low budget thrillers you guys should check out - and both are on youtube for FREE (although both are available on blu ray). The Candy Snatchers (1973 - which is apparently one of Quentin Tarantino's fav films) is about three lowlifes sociopaths who kidnap a school girl and bury her in a shallow grave will they hold her for ransom. Needless to say, things don't go exactly as planned and to say anymore will spoil the many twists and turns. The other film is a protoslasher that predates Black Christmas called The Severed Arm (1973) about six friends, while exploring an abandoned mine, get trapped in a cave-in for two weeks. Out of food and water, they decide that one of them must sacrifice a limb (the titular appendage) in order for them to survive. One "lucky" member is chosen and they hack off his arm - just before they hear a rescue party digging through the rumble. Needless to say, the man is not very happy and returns five years later seeking revenge (an eye for eye - or, in this case, arm for arm). Both films are products of their times and budgets - but I thought they were rather interesting and both have incredibly dark endings. Surprised I was never aware of either before watching them. Thought you guys might be interested if you haven't seen them already.
So cool. Love the nod to Wake In Fright also. One truly horrific movie that isn't horror. Awesome. Nice to be spending Friday nights with you guy's once again, too. See ya next week!

Started it but never got back to it.. even with what’s happening in the movie old people can be creepy as hell sometimes, had an ex and her grandpa would always sit in a recliner chair, he would just stare at nothing night and day, I would go to take a piss and there he was just staring at nothing awake all night long in the dark
This looks like it's right up my alley and if you say it's perfect then I'm definitely watching it. Speaking of Australian movies, I just checked out Allison's Birthday, not a perfect movie but it was a fun watch. Excellent review, fellas!

Excellent! I've always heard really great things about this film but have never gotten a chance to check it out. From the clips that you showed, it really looks like something right up my alley. I don't know what it is about the Australian film industry, but I am a sucker for most of the things they were doing back in the 70s and 80s. Will definitely have to watch this one. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.
