Stellastarr* (don't forget that asterisk!) will always have a soft squidgy place in my heart as they were the first band that I ever saw live with my friends in 2004 when they toured the UK.
I can still remember exactly how giddy my 16-year-old self felt when they played 'My Coco'...but they ultimately never got a fair shake when much lesser bands (The Bravery anyone?) were rammed down our throats.
In this video, I explore the band's 80s influences, talk about which mega-famous band supported them before they got big and I get into their super interesting post-Stellastarr* careers.
I absolutely love Cheekface, Amanda's new band. Funnily enough, earlier today I bought a ticket to see them when they tour the UK next year - which will be almost exactly 20 years since I saw Stellastarr* back in the day.
Who is your favourite 'lost' 2000s band?

Great video! Everytime I listen to My Coco or Jenny, I'm amazed they make it. Big sound, great pacing with steady upward movement. They would certainly fit in with Pulp or The Killers, but that's not to say they were generic. Twenty years later and they're still in my top playlists.

      They deserved to be bigger!

Somewhere Across Forever is pop perfection. The vocal harmonies, the sense of loss and longing. It's a hearbreaking and beautiful song --that also rocks. I thank the stars for this song. It's perfect. Hauntingly catchy. I love this song.

Thanks for the video, I’ve learnt a lot about a band I’ve loved for years. Feel like there’s a whole other show on the second record being released with Copy Protection in the US, which definitely hindered matters - and probably is why one of my all-time favourite records isn’t on streaming. Gotta check out Cheekface now.

Really great video. I always wondered what happened to them. It's one of these bands that could have become really, really big a bit like the Killers did because they had catchy songs - but my guess is that they were just not at the right place at the right time. Their other issue I think is that they became ''known'' a bit too early just before the TH-cam era.

I remember listening to VHS Beta, Cut Copy, The Bravery, New Young Pony Club,The Raveonettes and of course the bigger bands. Those were the days.

Saw them once in the now closed Fez club in Reading. They were epic and met them all too. Lovely people. Guttes they stopped. Still listen to both albums today💚💚

Not sure if you're in the US or not, but Harmonies for the Haunted is on Spotify for streaming! All three albums are, as well as the Sweet Troubled Souls single with remixes, and the Arlington Queen single (that includes Underdressed)!
