My Mom was born in Huejucar Jalisco, in a ranch, at the border with Zacatecas state. Your mom’s stories remind me so much of my mom’s stories and life growing up in rural Mexico, very similar, so beautiful to be reminded of this. I want to visit Huejucar this year. I was just commenting on another channel how many of us not only have roots in MX but we still have family over there. Your mom's stories are so similar to my parent's. Really got me emotional. Hola paisano! Villanueva is basically "downtown" for the surrounding ranchos. It's where people go shopping for supplies, spend a Saturday/Sunday out with family, etc. We hope to make a more complete vlog for Villanueva next time. Glad you found us. Bienvenido!

This video fills the heart. Jennifer your Mom's hometown is about 130 miles from my grandparents home in Aguascalientes. It's not too close but the landscapes looks the same. Watching your video makes me yearn for a return to el rancho de Ojo de Agua. Yes, the same name which I'm assuming is common in Mexico. It is great to be able to visit the place of your ancestors. Many people don't have that connection which is unfortunate. It is a small part of ourselves that make us whole. My mother was born in Zacatecas but then her family moved to San Juan De Los Lagos and she never got a chance to show us where she came from since she died 2 years ago. @@EatBailaTravel i dont I'll tell my dad when i see him me and my dad last time we went was in 2018 before that the last time he was there was 55 years ago. When he left to the states my grandfather killed a guy in that town when he was 12 years old something that happened at that time his dad sold some of his land to get him of jail. We stay at a family house on my grandpa side he is a priest in that town. Its crasy after so many years the priest said when we went to the town a lot of people knew we were were family members of my grandpa. He said we owe death there thats why my dad never wanna to go over there ,i noticed there is young kids with guns before u go inside the town . The priest said that they want to know who goes in out of the town but because we were with priest we didn't get bother. I went to jalpa to its very closed by tabasco Zacatecas the pityas are very good over when there in season. I do remember my dad told me Chicago was the first town he work when he was 15 years old when came from mexico.
I grew up on a farm and last spring I went to the farm to visit my Dad. We did the same kind of walk (drive). We checked out all of the old homes of friends, neighbours and family in the area that are slowly being reclaimed by nature! How I wish one day to get my father down to Mexico to experience its beauty!

This pulling down if the calf is a ranch skill. You have to get them to the ground to vaccinate them, spray them for ticks, and brand them or tag them so if they get out of the fence you know whose it is. My family is from Tamaulipas and we have a ranch we can no longer visit bc of the cartels occupying the area. But every year we would come at Christmas to do that for my dad’s cows and calves. My cousins would come from San Francisco, New York, Boston, Chicago Dallas and all over to participate in Herraderos every year. What a lovely memory… thank you💕

The way your mom spoke about her childhood reminded me a lot of what my parents have shared with me about theirs-my dad also took my mom on a horse 😄 and my grandpa stopped speaking to my mom for some time after she left with my dad. Your grandfathers ranch is clearly such a special place for you, and listening to you talk to your mum (with subtitles on 😂 ) was super heart warming. It's heartbreaking but also lovely that your mum feels so happy when she comes back, and then get sads when she leaves - clearly this place is special to her as well. I can only imagine, after seeing the house your mum grew up in, that moving to the US would have been a massive culture shock. This was very interesting. All four of my grandparents were born in Mexico but my mom and dad were both born in the U.S. my mothers grandfather was born in Spain so it’s really great that you can trace your roots at least to your grandfather. My mothers dad is from Jalisco and her mom is from Tepic. Unfortunately I never have had the opportunity to visit either of those great cities. To think that your grandfather was an Ejidatario is absolutely amazing. You’re very lucky that your mother took you to visit her puebla and immerse you in your Mexican heritage.
Thank you for sharing with us, we were both very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Mexico as children. We don't want to lose those roots so those roots called us back. Don't feel like it's too late to come and visit these places you can still come and reconnect with your roots. Wow! The house has changed when I went they had a corral to go to bathroom and me being from Chicago and my fam is from Mexico City . I was shock to see the cows on the street and I told Elaine I wasn’t using the bathroom it’ll we went to Villanueva…lol you have to hear my experience someday. Super cool episode. As I watched it and listened to the stories of those interviewed, I was reminded of the stories and characters and experiences of my family in Morelos and Michoacán. También mi familia es de rancho en Michoacán pero nos salimos por la pobreza y la violencia, de que te sirve estar en un rancho sin prosperidad y donde la gente te tiene envidia hasta de los zapatos que traes, mejor nos mudamos a la ciudad de México y mi hermana se fue a EE.UU pero ya se quieren regresar pero a la ciudad de México a Monterrey o Guadalajara no ha a ranchos en ranchos no hay nada solo violencia
Where, to Zacatecas? Not really, to be honest. The city of Zacatecas, yes 👍🏼, but I wouldn’t recommend driving or going outside the city of Zacatecas unless you know a local who can help guide you and tell you which areas to avoid and whatnot.

@@DannyBruceWayne gotcha, I think that’s fine to do, just be sure to avoid the carretera libre (if you’re driving) between Zacatecas and Aguascalientes. It’s not safe - even my family who live there avoid it.
Mexicans from Mexico are proud to be from Mexico because they are from the country. I love that but they need to realize that real Mexicans are 100% Native such as Oaxacan, Nahua, Mayan, Mixtecos, Purepecha can ttuly say they are 100% Mexican. They still know their true language of Mexico. People in Mexico make fun of and bully indegenous Mexicans. When they only speak spanish thats not the true language of Mexico. These same Mexicans are ashamed of indegenous language and call themselves real Mexicans. For example people in Jalisco have alot of ancestors that are Spanish that migrated and settled in Jalisco. These same people are white skinned, with colored eyes, light hair. These people claim Mexican but they claim it because they born in Mexico. But they have no Native Blood of any Mexican native in them. So these people with light skinned, colored eyes, light hair are not real Mexicans. We are all Natives. Ten states were stolen from Mexico, so Chicanos are cousins of Mexicans only because the 10 states were stolen from Mexico.
Yes absolutely. Colorism is unfortunately rampant in Mexico, not in the same way as the US, but it’s definitely a socio-economic issue. I’ve been wanting to do a 23 And Me or Ancestry DNA just for the fun of it

This video fills the heart. Jennifer your Mom's hometown is about 130 miles from my grandparents home in Aguascalientes. It's not too close but the landscapes looks the same. Watching your video makes me yearn for a return to el rancho de Ojo de Agua. Yes, the same name which I'm assuming is common in Mexico. It is great to be able to visit the place of your ancestors. Many people don't have that connection which is unfortunate. It is a small part of ourselves that make us whole.

When he left to the states my grandfather killed a guy in that town when he was 12 years old something that happened at that time his dad sold some of his land to get him of jail. We stay at a family house on my grandpa side he is a priest in that town. Its crasy after so many years the priest said when we went to the town a lot of people knew we were were family members of my grandpa. He said we owe death there thats why my dad never wanna to go over there ,i noticed there is young kids with guns before u go inside the town . The priest said that they want to know who goes in out of the town but because we were with priest we didn't get bother. I went to jalpa to its very closed by tabasco Zacatecas the pityas are very good over when there in season. I do remember my dad told me Chicago was the first town he work when he was 15 years old when came from mexico.
I grew up on a farm and last spring I went to the farm to visit my Dad. We did the same kind of walk (drive). We checked out all of the old homes of friends, neighbours and family in the area that are slowly being reclaimed by nature! How I wish one day to get my father down to Mexico to experience its beauty!

This pulling down if the calf is a ranch skill. You have to get them to the ground to vaccinate them, spray them for ticks, and brand them or tag them so if they get out of the fence you know whose it is.
My family is from Tamaulipas and we have a ranch we can no longer visit bc of the cartels occupying the area.
But every year we would come at Christmas to do that for my dad’s cows and calves. My cousins would come from San Francisco, New York, Boston, Chicago Dallas and all over to participate in Herraderos every year. What a lovely memory… thank you💕

This was very interesting. All four of my grandparents were born in Mexico but my mom and dad were both born in the U.S. my mothers grandfather was born in Spain so it’s really great that you can trace your roots at least to your grandfather. My mothers dad is from Jalisco and her mom is from Tepic. Unfortunately I never have had the opportunity to visit either of those great cities. To think that your grandfather was an Ejidatario is absolutely amazing. You’re very lucky that your mother took you to visit her puebla and immerse you in your Mexican heritage.

Wow! The house has changed when I went they had a corral to go to bathroom and me being from Chicago and my fam is from Mexico City . También mi familia es de rancho en Michoacán pero nos salimos por la pobreza y la violencia, de que te sirve estar en un rancho sin prosperidad y donde la gente te tiene envidia hasta de los zapatos que traes, mejor nos mudamos a la ciudad de México y mi hermana se fue a EE.UU pero ya se quieren regresar pero a la ciudad de México a Monterrey o Guadalajara no ha a ranchos en ranchos no hay nada solo violencia
es una triste realidad ver como se van decaendo los ranchos. En algún tiempo fue vida sana y la violencia se esta acabando con ellos :(

Where, to Zacatecas? Not really, to be honest. The city of Zacatecas, yes 👍🏼, but I wouldn’t recommend driving or going outside the city of Zacatecas unless you know a local who can help guide you and tell you which areas to avoid and whatnot.

@@DannyBruceWayne gotcha, I think that’s fine to do, just be sure to avoid the carretera libre (if you’re driving) between Zacatecas and Aguascalientes. It’s not safe - even my family who live there avoid it.

Mexicans from Mexico are proud to be from Mexico because they are from the country. I love that but they need to realize that real Mexicans are 100% Native such as Oaxacan, Nahua, Mayan, Mixtecos, Purepecha can ttuly say they are 100% Mexican. They still know their true language of Mexico. People in Mexico make fun of and bully indegenous Mexicans. When they only speak spanish thats not the true language of Mexico. These same Mexicans are ashamed of indegenous language and call themselves real Mexicans. For example people in Jalisco have alot of ancestors that are Spanish that migrated and settled in Jalisco. These same people are white skinned, with colored eyes, light hair. These people claim Mexican but they claim it because they born in Mexico. But they have no Native Blood of any Mexican native in them. So these people with light skinned, colored eyes, light hair are not real Mexicans.

Yes absolutely. Colorism is unfortunately rampant in Mexico, not in the same way as the US, but it’s definitely a socio-economic issue. I’ve been wanting to do a 23 And Me or Ancestry DNA just for the fun of it
