Seems like a really well thought out and honest review. I believe more reviewers should be pointing out that Samsung claims the polymer screen protector will be replaceable with the proper tools. So if that's true, having a built in screen protector over real glass is actually a very good option.
Honestly, I'm more interested in a foldable portable display. Like a canvas 24 inch display, that fods down around a a case and the case is 15.7 inch diagonal. A case so that the screen doesn't need to make a crease. And inside the case you can keep other stuff, a laptop a tablet whatever. And when you unfold it, it can be held like a canvas on an easle for good ergonomics.

I think the fact that it doesn't have a larger screen on the outside is perfect for when you don't want to be distracted by your phone too much. The clamshell form factor is perfect for focusing (like at work) and not being terribly distracted when your phone lights up when you get a notification.
I'm really surprised to hear you dismiss the split screen feature so readily. To me, that's a huge feature and will be utilized by a lot of developers down the road. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. Moreover, I definitely prefer the clamshell concept of the Z Flip over the tablet concept of the Galaxy Fold. I'm just not that into tablets - and I have an iPad.
that seems like a good idea. Would be interesting to see how a non server linux is used in real world production, other then say a Hollywood studio where most people can't take a look at.
@@seanld444 To be honest I was running Linux only for the last 3 years. It was okay for browsing, file management and music and foto management and it was super cool for programming. However I realized when I had to use office, that it was not ready for this. If you work in an environment where Microsoft office is used, you are screwed with Linux. Also MTP was always an issue. And Apple devices don’t really work with Linux. That’s why I Switches to macOS and iOS. But on server I’m of Linux. Because of my experiences with Linux, I’m really interested in how Linux performs as a video editing workstation for usual people, since I never used it for this purpose. I really like Linux, it just wasn’t capable of handling all my needs but it was able to handle around 80% of them.
This is how a review is done. I think you have done justice to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. I agree it's got cons (which so many are stressing on) but the pros that it has are not to be ignored either. Keep up the good work.
In an article from Korea Samsung mentioned that the UTG allowed them to use a punch-hole camera design instead of the noth design of the Fold. My guess would be the added rigidness of the UTG would allow the hole to not bend or warp unlike a fully polymer film.
This is the first review that I’ve seen where someone is actually happy about a change and not complaining about it 👏 awesome commentary and very informative only review I’ve watched with out skipping threw, And a honest and intelligent review. Keep on the amazing work ❗️👏
What a fantastic video Quinn. I absolutely love the detail that you go into for your reviews. I remember watching JerryRigEverything’s durability test of the galaxy fold and that was the first time I got really excited for a folding phone. This phone takes things to the next level in terms of not feeling like a beta product. I do really wish it had a much better outer display- that would make this phone so much better. But hey, they have to do something for the Flip 2.
There are reviews, and there are REVIEWS...Your style, the points and views you bring up, the way you speak from your perspective... This is the best Tech vid I've seen in ages. TH-cam needs to explain why they only introduced me to Snazzy Labs now? Thumbs up mate, well done ! (PS the Z flip is now at $984.00 USD here in Australia. So tempting, but torn with the new 5g version coming out.... does anyone think the 30% power increase and 5g justify the extra $416 USD....)
I just don't see the durability issues being solved(anytime soon), the cost worth being justified, and the actual use case for me, I just call, text and hotspot on my phone, I use a tablet for everything else and a plastic or plastic coated screen is not what I'm looking for add in the hing issues and I'm good. Add in the fact I only need a mid-range CPU and a 1080p screen I don't even know why I care
So true... I had a Galaxy Note 4 Edge and kept it until this year because noting new appeared on the market. I saw my first folding phone this March and bought it days later. My Son got a Flip 2 to replace his dull Oppo 73 weeks after that. Phones are fun again and My Fold 2 and son's Flip 2 have very very happy owners.
I've started my tech TH-camr watching from UnboxT --> MKBHD --> iJustine --> Linus and finally arrived at your channel. I didn't subscribe to any of these because I really didn't find the need for it (TH-cam algorithm shows them anyway). However your Mac mini video followed by the Mac Tip video that started by, just, starting really made me watch your videos. This Galaxy Flip review made me put the cursor on the subscribe button in less than 2 days of knowing your channel, while it took more than a year for Lew's. You get to the point and you have an insight that warrants a true tech TH-camr. Its the first time I actually pressed a button because I actually "wanted to" instead of feeling the "guilt" of not having done so already. Thanks again for your efforts.

Finally someone put it the right way. I love my z flip, and I also came from an iPhone 11.. is it the most advanced phone spec wise? No. But the technology is incredible and needs to be supported to improve. I don't think its for everybody at the price that it is, but if you're into innovation and can afford it, do it.
Remember when older flip phone where hot shit, then the smart phone came out and you were laughing at anyone with a flip phone making Star Trek jokes. Now these things come out and you feel the need to literally put your foot in your mouth for how wrong you were to think we could never go back to that. Makes my thin candy bar phone look a little boring.
After watching multiple reviews of this phone, am I the only human that doesn't get push notifications from apps or banner sized texts?? I just don't see the small front screen being an issue if all I have my phone tell me is that I have a text message. I feel like it encourages you to not be so glued to your phone and let it steal your attention as much. Idk, maybe it's just me :)
I am very excited for future generations of foldables. They will work out a lot of kinks. Some maybe a lot harder to solve (like the crease) but adjustable hinge tension so you can leave it at any angle seems feasible.
I still have the included plastic protector on my S10+ and aside from some minor scratch it's great so I don't know why people make such a big deal out of plastic screens a few years ago there were no tempered glass protectors everyone had a plastic one
That's exactly why I've one as a secondary phone. The 11 Pro Max is a much better phone.. BUT it's also cool to use it partially flipped in your hands or on a table. But yeah it's a Luxury item. Get the S20 Ultra instead for a solid daily.
I like the fold form factor but the size is what gets me. The weird aspect ratios on both screens make it strange to use for anything. I’d love a fold that’s the size of a normal phone when folded, with a normal phone sized screen and a tablet sized screen inside. It would be so much more useful.
Well, if "people with only small pockets" don't fit in "most people", then yes, this form factor doesn't suit most people. But I would like to point out that around half of the population tends to be like that. I do ultimately think that the Fold makes more sense tho, it's more society and fashion norms to blame for the Z Flip's utility than anything else.
I don't know if they thought about that, but : I know the phone has an Always on Display on the small outside screen. But does it have one on the main screen ? I picture the phone half folded, sitting on a table (like at 7:46), with an AOD that displays time and notifications on the top half only. This would look really, really cool.
nice video! your content is intelligent, non biased and with just enough humor. that was interesting that your iphone 11 pro is getting great battery life i always thought iphones were terrible at that, i still have an iphone 6s plus for the headphone jack. that flip is interesting but hopefully the price will go down. even though flagship smartphones are getting crazy expensive the mid range phones are still a viable option as is just buying an older flagship that does everything the newer ones do
I can see how this phone could be good, and was contemplating this or the note from 2020. I returned the note, and got a Z Fold 2 after not feeling it was worth it over my Note 8. I a fold believer now. Even with tons of a bunch of weird app issues, a cracked front screen (gorilla glass Victus eh?), lack of good cases, and costing a ton... The Z Fold 2 has been an incredibly usable phone that I have got more use out of than most phones I have owned the last several generations. Having the extra space to work with emails and files is worth more than the stylus for working while not at work. The front screen can use some work, as it is a chore to use though. I will say I am now using an iPhone and iPad Pro for work, as they recently got us the iPads to save us from having to take a laptop home and on trips. With the seamless text and call on both devices, the overall better app comparability, and large workspace, I think this is the optimal combo over using a z fold. IOS still has some annoying issues that Android doesn't have, but I recognize that IOS and Android are both good for different reasons. I think IOS is better for work and for the average consumer. I would not give my Z Fold back though. It is so good for consumption of media, especially books and comics. I can't wait to see folding phones in the next few years.
Made me feel better after watching. Bought a ZFlip 5G and with the attached screen protector, I'm inclined to remove it due to scratches. Screen protector does not self heal. Its the other way around, the more I wipe with a cleaning cloth, the more scratches are added. I'd love to test the "self healing" properties of the actual screen. Thanks
This is probably the only tech channel that I dont skip to the middle or end of the video to check out the major points of the reviewer. And most importantly the things that he says are from the actual user and consumer perspectives. And to be honest, aside from the TV show, Friend, I am definitely learning English again through his videos haha

8:18 - no it doesn't. Glass doesn't bend. They just made two separate very thin glass panels that covers non-bendable parts of screen, but in a center they left just uncovered OLED screen. So that part which actually bends covered only by plastic protector. You can't make bendable glass, it's impossible. It's impossible to create material which can be transparent, thin, bendable and durable all at the same time. And this is a very important thing. With bendable phone you can't have dust and water protection. And, as every bendable thing, it will broke with time, because of material fatigue. You can't fool physic laws. And i want to admit that bendable screens was around since 2006-2007, Sony have their own prototype device with bendable screen, Nokia was experimenting with bendable OLED, and you know what - it didn't work. There is no using for this. It's just pointless. Samsung and a bunch of smaller manufacturers started this trend of bendable smartphones only because they doesn't really imagine how to create a new product. Adding megapixels, gigabytes and cameras doesn't make any difference, so they tried to create some new direction. And they failed. Bendable phones is a failure. It's different, but it's not better in any meaning.
I agree. It's great that there's variety and innovation is back in the smartphone industry. It's been really boring and yes, you do end up paying more for cutting-edge technology, but it has been worth it. For what it's worth, I'm really enjoying the Galaxy Fold. Sure there are some issues, but it's fantastic to use and some days I don't even unfold it as you don't need to.
Best review on this device so far. And the way u talked about the screen is a first time i see it. You are completely right, images on this screen just feel different. It looks like stickers glued to the glass.
I sick and tired about the other big youtube channels, who put out 10 min advertisements, pre scripted and censored by the manufacturer. This video was more like a time capsule, not like other dry, serialised predicable videos. This was amazing. Thank you so much, i unsubscribed from the phone review channels in 2020.
Which is why I still haven’t upgraded since 2014. I hope the new arm Macs will have a MacBook Pro option with an actual set of F-keys. The touch bar definitely tries to solve a problem that never existed, and created a problem in the process.
100% agree with your comment "an evolution looking for an audience" I have a Samsung Note and it's so huge it can't even fit in my smaller handbag, I have been watching so many Z Flip videos and it seems men don't have an issue with big phone, it might just be me, but I hate the huge phones that are coming out. You may have convinced me to buy the Z Flip now :-)
I tried it in a store and I really liked it! First of all, I was really impressed that the screen of a demo unit in a store in the down town area of a bigger city still looked so clean and scratch-free. Considering how many people touch that thing every day I thought it would look like ass right away but the only thing I could see were finger prints. The hinge also felt really solid and like it has just the perfect amount of resistance when opening and closing the phone. My only gripe with it? The price. I am not willing to pay more for a phone that can do less. The S10 outperforms the Flip in every way. If they can give me a folding phone with the specs of an S10+ or Note 10+ and a durable screen for a price just around 1000 bucks we can talk. But until then I'm gonna keep my Note 10+ :) Which I actually like more than the S20 Ultra. I am probably gonna stick to Samsung but right now I am really curious whether my next phone will be a foldable phone like one I described above or the successor of the "Note 20".
Still got the razr and the Motorola flip out and still work .Now I have the z flip 😍I like thing's different was fed up with the boring Slab phones . Really enjoyed your video so different from what I've watched on TH-cam 👍
The crease doesn't bother me, not a bit. The phone as a whole is so special to me, that any other phone out there with all gimmicky high specs seems so common and boring. Honestly the biggest problem for me was the fingerprints. Easy fix: matte foldable screen protector and case. This is perfect for me... Thanks for the video, very informative.
Thank you for good review. I remember seeing one of the first plasma TVs in a store costing $7000 for 42 inch. All because it was bleeding edge technology. So, if you want folding phone for reasonable price, just wait 2-3 years
I want to ask? Why are you more excited about the galaxy flip, and not the galaxy fold? IMO the real game changer was the galaxy fold, it merges two devices into one, I got really excited because I was looking for something like that long ago. Excellent review, thank you!

Best review of the Z Flip I've seen. 💯
Yo it seems your editor still running KDE. You going to do a "X months of Linux" update? Thanks good stuff.
that seems like a good idea. Would be interesting to see how a non server linux is used in real world production, other then say a Hollywood studio where most people can't take a look at.
Not sure why people still think Linux can't be a viable daily driving OS.
The seamless audio transition between your content and ad is JESUS level.
I've been watching 10+ reviews and just ordered one for €900 because of this review.
Btw, you're the only one I subbed.
The way he described the air-gap on the cheaper iPad basically described my problem with screen protectors.
Keep on the amazing work ❗️👏
Speaking about phone design, I wish that HTC would bring back it's One M7 design... That thing was truly quite unique
Lol the chuckle after the flip or flop joke was great.
Meh-heh-heh!
I just bought one and loved it. Great review!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m super honored to have you here on my channel. Hope to keep bringing awesome content to make that subscription worth it. 👊
My only problem is the cracking creases and the aspect ratio and the inability to unfold in -20c
I'm glad someone is talking about the fact that this form factor has almost no utility other than the cool factor for most people. Fold makes sense.
9:53
boy wait till you use the s20 on 120hz
I don't know if they thought about that, but : I know the phone has an Always on Display on the small outside screen.
But does it have one on the main screen ? I picture the phone half folded, sitting on a table (like at 7:46), with an AOD that displays time and notifications on the top half only.
This would look really, really cool.
I would love to see some more beginner audiophile stuff, great video 👌👍
Hahaha the brownie on Saturday night thing made me subscribe. Nice video!
Great video buddy...I was a subscriber but now hit the bell...good work.
Nice companion cube in the background! I love portal, great to see another fan.
0:34 how many hours did it take you to get this shot just right???
nice video! your content is intelligent, non biased and with just enough humor. that was interesting that your iphone 11 pro is getting great battery life i always thought iphones were terrible at that, i still have an iphone 6s plus for the headphone jack. that flip is interesting but hopefully the price will go down. even though flagship smartphones are getting crazy expensive the mid range phones are still a viable option as is just buying an older flagship that does everything the newer ones do
I can see how this phone could be good, and was contemplating this or the note from 2020.
Thanks
I user little wet-wipes then dry off with micro fibre cloth. Both are cheap at my supermarket and they do a wonderful job on my fold 2 screens
You said "I find myself shirt wiping this phone..." literally as I was wiping my ZFold 3 off on my shirt for the same reason haha
This is probably the only tech channel that I dont skip to the middle or end of the video to check out the major points of the reviewer. And most importantly the things that he says are from the actual user and consumer perspectives. And to be honest, aside from the TV show, Friend, I am definitely learning English again through his videos haha
WoW..really wow..
This guy's review lvl is master..so much details and perspectives that makes the other tech youtubers like MKBHD videos childish and overrated. Subscribed
You dont have to put others down to lift someone up
I like that you casually dropped that you have a girlfriend - congrats! Remember, back rubs in the front room lead to front rubs in the back room - remember who you are and what you stand for

HAHAHA A MOTHER AFTER A HEART
Very interesting and informative video. Good to find out after all these years that I wasn't the only one to buy a Dell Streak!
Awesome! Video although I have been watching for a while have not been able to catch up till now.Loved your review Deb.👌✌
Brilliant review! You just set the bar for thoughtful, eloquent, interesting, informative reviews. Thank you 😊
People should be waiting for the Graphene technology inclusion, later this year or early next. Trust... you want to have that money saved!
Youre videos are so detailed, keep up the great woek
I love the companion cube screensaver!
I agree. It's great that there's variety and innovation is back in the smartphone industry. It's been really boring and yes, you do end up paying more for cutting-edge technology, but it has been worth it.
For what it's worth, I'm really enjoying the Galaxy Fold. Sure there are some issues, but it's fantastic to use and some days I don't even unfold it as you don't need to.
if you just knew all the engineering and machining that goes in that hinge you would understand why it cost so much.
Best review on this device so far. And the way u talked about the screen is a first time i see it. You are completely right, images on this screen just feel different. It looks like stickers glued to the glass.
Absolutely loved your video. Keep up the great work!
Also at 11:08 it's good for doing timelapses or if you want a tripod to take videos on
I sick and tired about the other big youtube channels, who put out 10 min advertisements, pre scripted and censored by the manufacturer. This video was more like a time capsule, not like other dry, serialised predicable videos.
This was amazing.
Thank you so much, i unsubscribed from the phone review channels in 2020.
6:15 want to know what is a gimmick the MacBook Pro Touch Bar
Which is why I still haven’t upgraded since 2014. I hope the new arm Macs will have a MacBook Pro option with an actual set of F-keys. The touch bar definitely tries to solve a problem that never existed, and created a problem in the process.
100% agree with your comment "an evolution looking for an audience" I have a Samsung Note and it's so huge it can't even fit in my smaller handbag, I have been watching so many Z Flip videos and it seems men don't have an issue with big phone, it might just be me, but I hate the huge phones that are coming out. You may have convinced me to buy the Z Flip now :-)
You’ll love it!
Now I know who you remind me of. You're the Doug Demuro of tech.
🤯
Still got the razr and the Motorola flip out and still work .Now I have the z flip 😍I like thing's different was fed up with the boring Slab phones . Really enjoyed your video so different from what I've watched on TH-cam 👍
Cheers!
galaxy z flip is nice but why do they crack overtime in the middle of the screen??? when folding it for awhile!!
Samsung should thank you, the way you explained about thin glass. As per me best video for z flip till now
if i had known this phone was coming out, i would have waited and got it instead of my Note 10+
Literally the best review of the Flip. Can i get a heart from Quinn.
Thank you for good review.
I remember seeing one of the first plasma TVs in a store costing $7000 for 42 inch. All because it was bleeding edge technology. So, if you want folding phone for reasonable price, just wait 2-3 years
A very nice review! Isn't it possible to use a screen protector for the Galaxy Z Flip?
Cheers
Love your reviews. You highlight the benefits and the cons that most people wanna know about. Nice job.
I want to ask? Why are you more excited about the galaxy flip, and not the galaxy fold? IMO the real game changer was the galaxy fold, it merges two devices into one, I got really excited because I was looking for something like that long ago. Excellent review, thank you!
Quinn: Apple’s needs to get rid of the camera bump.
Samsung: _releases flip phone with no camera bump_
Quinn: the phone is too slippery
Me: 🤦🏻♂️
