  • The Alternating Pressure Pad is used to cycle the pressure points with alternating pressure so that there is not a constant pressure on the same point when someone is in bed for extended periods of time. This is especially important for people with disabilities and diabetes. It helps prevent pressure sores and ulcers that can occur with just a regular mattress. Please consult a medical professional to determine if you need this equipment.

    I used a natural salve that I purchased on the internet for bed sores on a patient in our nursing home after I was given permission of course. This natural healing salve was by Mama Nature and was called salveation. I think it has manuka honey it. It was better than any of the creams we had used before and we started to use it on all of the elderly in the nursing home. It worked most of the time and it was relief because bed sores were a real issue. I guess it would work for any type of pressure sore and where there is rubbing of the skin.

      I purchased it from Amazon but it looks like they don't carry it anymore. This is what it was called, Drive Medical Med Aire Deluxe Pad with End Flaps. It looks like Walmart carries it too. www.walmart.com/ip/Drive-Medical-Med-Aire-Deluxe-Pad-with-End-Flaps/15061021?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=2826&adid=22222222227016184652&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=52320436815&wl4=pla-79420859895&wl5=9002012&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=113489982&wl11=online&wl12=15061021&wl13=&veh=sem

    Hello, I understand the compressor pressure setting must be at a 100% of the scale while inflating. How do I determine the right (optimum) pressure setting for a patient?

    • @Fullsteammedia
      @Fullsteammedia  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should ask your Doctor. I'm sure it varies from one individual to another depending on their medical condition. To much pressure might actually cause problems. When the mattress was initially set up by the medical supply rep authorized by the insurance they set it at 65 and I just left is there. I did find this online.
      How do I know if the pressure (comfort) setting of the mattress is suitable for my weight?
      If there is bottoming-out that means the pressure setting is inadequate (or too low) for you. Bottoming-out can be checked by sliding one hand between the deflated air cell and directly under the patient. Users should be able to feel the minimal contact. If there is an incident of bottoming-out, simply adjust the pressure range a little higher. Here is the link: www.medicalairmattress.com/questions.html

    • @Fullsteammedia
      @Fullsteammedia  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +redmixtodon The pump is always on, alternating the inflation and deflation of opposite chambers so there is no consistent pressure on the skin in any one spot reducing the risk of bed sores. The pump is very quiet.

      The pressure pad or mattress is hooked up to a pump that is always on and regulates the amount of air in the mattress. You do not use the mattress by itself. You need to have one of these types of pumps. www.amazon.com/Invacare-CG9701-Careguard-Alternating-Pressure/dp/B000VS7G80/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1521562775&sr=8-16&keywords=alternating+pressure+pump

    Does the mattress move at all while the patient is on it ?

    • @Fullsteammedia
      @Fullsteammedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I purchase the pressure pads that have the extra flaps that fit under the mattress and it does not move. I have found that for me they last about 1 year before they spring a leak. I leave the compressor on 24/7 and just order a new one when they start to leak. They come with a patch kit so I should try fixing the ones I have which number about five now.

    • @elidedcana8854
      @elidedcana8854 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you think they start to leak ?
      How did you notice that it started to leak ?

    • @Fullsteammedia
      @Fullsteammedia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a man made product that is designed to fill and deflate with air repeatedly under the weight of a person. Flexing numerous times a day 24/7 it is eventually going to fail at some point. I usually notice the sound of the leak when the leaking section starts to inflate and you can also notice the mattress is not as firm as it was before the leak.

      I leave mine on 27/7 but you can turn it off when no one is in bed. It fills up quickly. The pump seems pretty reliable. I've had this pump on 24/7 for around 5 years. I have changed the mattress twice. My mother has not had any issues with bed sores because of this mattress.
