We are preparing to get a chameleon. Just in the beginning of my research. The clerk at the reptile store recommended a smaller cage stating that baby chameleons can fall and hurt themselves in a larger container. It immediately sat wrong with me, because as you stated, in the wild they don't even have cages. I am curious about your thoughts on that statement.

While it may be hard to find your chameleon in a larger enclosure, we must keep in mind what is best for the chameleon. They need to have lots of hiding places to feel safe. It will be stressful for them to be moved to a new enclosure and get reacclimated to a new home. If you do decide to go with a smaller enclosure first, be sure to raise your T5 5.0/6% UVB to be 48" above the bottom of the enclosure.
