Couldn't agree more with you on this. If you are at a place which has a history of a genocide the last thing you would do is kiss. This is just really weird to me and the people clapping back? Excuse me, so many people died and you find all of this romantic? Beyond me.

I like the way they wrote it in the book, you should read it. They do start clapping which is weird, but Hazel acknowledges that it was kind of weird doing that and it was a bad place.
And then how he finished it also makes it better. Cause even though he didn’t want to see a word without Gus he would still take the robot eyes cause they are robot eyes which shows how even though he knows his friend is going to die he still jokes around.

i’m sorry but i gotta say this somewhere. i’ve been binge watching dylan’s videos for the last week or so and just came across this. i’ve been thinking about this movie a lot for the last week, coincidentally. my ex bf who is now my best friend is also an osteosarcoma survivor with one leg. i can’t bear to watch this movie again after all these years as we just found out his cancer is back. on friday they’ll remove 6 tumors from his lungs before starting chemo the following week. maybe i shouldn’t comment as i haven’t watched this video and i won’t, but i’ve been thinking about it so much and this seems like an okay place to say what i’ve been thinking. i have to say that from what i remember they nailed the time gus had alive after finding out he was sick. the scene at the gas station keeps replaying in my head, gus repeating ‘just let me die’ in his car...i can’t stop picturing my best friend saying it. i can’t stop thinking about hazel’s phone ringing in the middle of the night, and how mine will sound, and when it will be. i picture my roommates looking at each other with no clue what to do when i get it. maybe i’ll run to my car and drive off and grieve in an empty parking lot so they won’t have to see. who knows. maybe he’ll survive again. but if you know anything about osteosarcoma, you know his odds aren’t fantastic. i’m sorry for the novel. idk if i believe in a god but to anyone who does...please please pray for him. edit: thank y’all for the kind words. he miraculously lived for two more weeks after the surgery. he died on august 16th, 2020 at 21. edit 2: it’s been over 2 years since he died and i still get responses on this so i just wanna give a general life update. after he died i was not okay for a long time. i couldn’t function. absolutely everything hurt. i had no one that really cared about me, no one i could show how much pain i was really in to. and then, in february of 2021 i met my best friend. my platonic soulmate. the kind of person that reminds you how good life can be, how good you can be. he’s helped me become a whole person. i’m happy. i love the people in my life, i love myself, and as much as i miss brendan, i’ve only had a few days in the last year when the grief was crushing. it’s true that time heals. thank you for all your kind words. to this day, those comments mean the world. love all you troublemakers:)

This book broke me in the 6th grade. I did a book report and a poster on it and the poster literally had my tears all over it. I handed it to my teacher and literally said “I’m sorry it’s messy but I couldn’t stop crying”

I decided to pick this book up when my long term bf was going through aggressive af cancer and I was going through a life threatening illness. we were 23 ish, so young enough to relate a lot to the characters. Basically, big mistake! 😂 He still pokes fun of me for being so dumb. Was I trying to torture myself? I did like there cancer humour though. Very realistic! When dark shit happens, you develop a dark sense of humour.

Okay so I found Dylan a couple of weeks ago and am now slowly making my way through the backlog of his vids. And I gotta say this is the first vid where I have actually seen him genuinely affected by the emotion and writing of the movie and it was strangely heart warming to see a more human and romantic side of him rather than the endless (but entertaining) ripping of the movies content. 2020 Dylan if you see this don't be afraid to do some movie commentary of some really good films that left an impression on you, I'm sure I'm not the only one who was left with a more wholesome view of who you are outside of TH-cam after this. Actually that tweet was fake! One of the big points of TFiOS was that authors shouldn't have a say in what happens to their characters after the book ends and John Green believes that too.

John Green was coping with the loss of a young friend with cancer who died when she was 16 I believe. While he was still working through that, he wrote this. That's been my understanding of the story. Instead of Hazel Grace, the girl's name was Esther Grace :)

Due to that I have PTSD and Cancer is my worst fear when it comes to myself and my loved ones... So what did to do? I decided to pick this book up when my long term bf was going through aggressive af cancer and I was going through a life threatening illness. we were 23 ish, so young enough to relate a lot to the characters.

i kept avoiding this movie commentary because i was very invested in this franchise, i read all of john greens books, i read this one 3 times before watching the movie then again after. i cried like a baby reading & watching these scenes. i really didn’t think i’d cry because of your jokes and light hearted take on everything but fuck. this story gets me every time.

Okay so I found Dylan a couple of weeks ago and am now slowly making my way through the backlog of his vids. And I gotta say this is the first vid where I have actually seen him genuinely affected by the emotion and writing of the movie and it was strangely heart warming to see a more human and romantic side of him rather than the endless (but entertaining) ripping of the movies content. 2020 Dylan if you see this don't be afraid to do some movie commentary of some really good films that left an impression on you, I'm sure I'm not the only one who was left with a more wholesome view of who you are outside of TH-cam after this. (Also props for not bringing gender into your review aka this book and movie is only for teen girls).
