  • I cover my top 5 tools that I can't live without for building with styrene, plus I include a bonus tool. Styrene construction is a very rewarding and easy way to build whatever you need. No need to buy a 3D printer, when you can make your own accessories with these tools!

I really used metal files allot more than sanding blocks now. I don't do any sanding until the primer is laid down now.

Always hear you out brother, I’m sure your a brother who can be trusted. A man who takes the time to build the pieces of work you do is a man to befriend. A person who takes this kinda time has an appreciation for greater things. Box stock, not doing it....gotta build it up. Great video brother, excellent info.🤙👍

Pittsburgh brand digital calipers from Harbor Freight for approx $25. Yes, there are much more accurate and expensive calipers out there, but you don't need that kind of accuracy (tolerances < .005") when working with styrene. Useful for measuring accurate lengths and depths in both inches and mm up to 6" or 150mm, as well as scoring, determining tubing ID and OD.

That razor saw is exactly how I lopped off the rear of my sons blazer to make it a k10 cab! With a styrene cab wall ;) then I used everything else in your list including plastruct adhesive to melt/ bond it together and squadron putty to smooth transitions and make soft edges.

I like using thread for cuts, the resulting cuts are so fine one could easily replace the cut away part. A set of files from hazard fraught helps too.

Pin vise. I often need a small hole and the Dremel is too aggressive. I,also use 1-2-3 block to get those square corners perfect.

I go for a good utility knife over the exactos. Also keep a few with the tip snapped of for gouge work like body lines. I'd be lost without my cutting mat also.

  • @brazwewn

Good basic list for sure. I find a cheap set of digital calipers extremely handy. Just a set of calipers are also good for transferring measurements which are hard to get with a ruler.

Excellent video, as always! I think your selection of tools really covered the essentials well. I might add a pair of Xuron fine cutters, needle files (I use a diamond coated set and love them, as they can file pretty much any material I encounter). Of course, when we’re not talking about essentials, I’ve got a couple of items that you might also find useful in your builds, chief among them Bare Metal Foil. It’s fantastic stuff and you might find a ton of uses for it!
    Looking forward to more videos!

Guy named blake wilkey made a vid a few years back, hooning about downtown san Diego in his LS powered baja bug. I live in the same city as him. Its wild a local hero is getting a body made of his new rig! (The original was sold to a prince in Dubai to avoid confiscation lol)
