    Thanks for this video! It is really helpful. I had a similar noise issue once with my recording. I was using a piezo pick-up mic, and I was picking up this massive buzz. Turns out that my laptop was running on battery. The moment I connected it to mains - the noise disappeared (well piezos are noisy, but the drop in the noise level due to interference was massive, easily around 3 dB). Checking your house earthing connection (mains electricity supply) maybe?

      Wow I'm sorry I did not see your comment there ! 10 months already.. Really have to check my yt notification settings.
      I don't have a problem with other units, I now have powered speakers plugged in the walls as well and I don't hear any grounding issues either. But that can indeed be a great fix for some people, I'll pin your comment thank you :)

      @@QuentinDamour Hey thanks for getting back man. Your video helped me in deciding to get my launch control. So many knobs, so many options! Good to hear you don't hear the hiss anymore. Haven't faced that problem so far, fingers crossed.
      If I may, if anybody is reading this now - couple of points to note if you are planning to buy the launch control. The faders are not of the endless type - what this essentially means is, if you switch between soft devices on Ableton, you might have to tune back the pot to the position where the soft knob is actually in position. In other words, the launch control doesn't know where your soft knob is located, so you have to tune the hardware knob to match it to the software knob location. This hasn't been a huge issue for me, but if you are performing live and switching between devices and controls often - this is something to consider. You would then be better off saving a few more quid and buying something like the Ableton Push or APC 40 Mark II. This said, if you have the money to spare, and need a 'few' extra knobs and faders, go for the Launch Control.

    I have the MidiMix. 2 things. First I bought a $10 pack of knobs like the ones on the Novation. Easy to replace the small knovs it cones with. Second, the MidiMix has 9 faders not 8 because it also has a master fader. The Novation only has 8 faders, no master fader. Also I use the MidiMix in Reaper. There is a free piece of software you can get that lets you change what all the knobs and faders control very easily. It also adds the ability to use a shift button giving each control muliple uses/assignments

    9:51 for the buzz;, there are 2 things I can think of;
    1. Your power source has no ground/earth connection.
    2. Try a different cable with proper insulation.

    From what I can work out the Akai has 2 user banks and the Novation has 8 user templates. I think this may swing it for the Novation to me. I'd like to set up 2 template to use on the OPX4 in the MPC, and it would still be nice to have more temples available for the Jura and the MiniD. And still have to spare for things like my LXR02 drum machine.

    Another advantage for the Launch Control XL, is that it's software allows you to set the buttons as 'toggle' rather than 'momentary'. The Akai buttons only act as 'momentary' switches, and no way to change their behaviour in the Akai midi app.

    I’ve had 2 midimixes and they’ve worked amazing. The extra slider is the game winner to me. It also looks simpler and not busy. XL is a lot to look at. Akai is sleek and simple and gives me everything I want. The knobs are short but don’t bother me. I like that they have a tiny bit of resistance, makes them not feel cheap.

    I’m selling my MIDIMIX for LCXL, for me. LCXL has far more control options since it have 8 user templates, and what’s more, you can edit the max and min value for each knob/fader/button, a total game changer. But i do like the build quality of MIDIMIX, it’s far more sturdy and i do like the compact form factor. My LCXL’s knobs are always wobbling and also, I hate the mid point of each knob. I miss the smooth move in MIDIMIX. C’mon Akai, do something to your second best MIDI controller (first one no doubt is APC40mk2).

    Good job explaining this, Quentin. One suggestion about your controller drifting around when you move the sliders.. Try putting some sticky tape Velcro under them :o) Do these act as loopers?

    • @QuentinDamour

      Thank you ! They don't have any audio capabilities on their own but you can map the buttons to use the looper within ableton through Midi. Hope this helps!

    Have you tried switching out the knobs? are they compatible with chroma caps? if so that could really help the midimix. I've heard the "Super Knobs" fit the MidiMix

      Thank's for the tip mate ! I've looked into it and the cost of a full upgrade would be 50 bucks for 24 knobs so it looks good but a bit expensive for this piece of hardware. Plus the shipping all the way to Belgium can be pricey and long.. but i'll try to find other options thank's again !

      @@QuentinDamour These look like common 6mm d knobs. I think soft rubber would be better than hard rubber or ABS for this. If time is not a problem try aliexpress. Search "module knob 6mm soft rubber" (similar to Rean F313 S 096 I think). You should get only one result. They mention AKAI midi controllers in the reviews. 2.18 euro shipped for 3 sets (30 black knobs).

    What do you say about korg nanokontrol studio?

    • @QuentinDamour
      @QuentinDamour  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks good on paper but has way less encoders than those two. I have only tried the nano kontrol (not studio) and was a bit disapointed by the build quality of the encoders but it does the job i would say. Depends on your use case !

    I have a couple of Questions to the AKAI Midimix:
    Can you use it to loop youre voice? Can I record my voice without having to do it in the software before? And can people hear it in Discord?
    (I have a USB-Mikrofon)

    • @QuentinDamour
      @QuentinDamour  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If i understand your question correctly no you cannot loop your voice directly on the device but you can use it as a remote to loop it in ableton, either in a scene or the looper device.

    • @QuentinDamour
      @QuentinDamour  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vojta1 the best way to loop with ableton is to get a sustain pedal and plug in into a midi keyboard wich has an input for that purpose than map the record button to that pedal. If you want to loop outside of ableton there is plenty of options but the only one i've tried personally is the tc electronic Dito Looper for guitar wich i liked but don't offer a lot of options... Overall looping directly in ableton is the best option in my opinion ! I'll put together a video explaining my setup in the future, feel free to subscribe to not miss it ! Cheers

      Both units are MIDI-controllers, therefore you can't do any audio manipulations with them, including recording, looping etc. These devices are used to control software

    The designer of the Midimix Knobs must be a huge real life Troll. Designing those short little crapknobs is next level trolling. Astonishingly, many people buy and like it, so i guess some people have chameleon-like fingers and no problem turning those little crapknobs.

    I'm using ableton live lite 11 and Novation launch control XL. All the features in the ableton work perfectly, but how to set the EQ3 or EQ8 to record it in drawing mode by setting the Bass, Mid, Hight and volume to separate pot gauges. So don’t just move the current track, it’s recorded. It would be a huge help when making DJ mixes, but I didn’t figure it out at all. Please help.
