Ok. Now it's arrived. I've hooked it up to Ableton, pulled up an instrument plugin for testing. Just a simple one for now, Arturia Mellotron V. I've assigned it to all the parameters of the mellotron, and holy moley! What a difference it makes. I'm just loving the crap out of this little thing already. Thank you so much for showing me this. I am extremely grateful, and a very happy boy. You rock!

Well. Thanks to you I am now getting a midimix. I love playing around with soft synths. I can not afford neither the cost nor the space to get physical synths, but I have plenty of room for synth vsts to run in Ableton, along with my MPK88 keyboard. What I've always missed though is the tactile connection to the synth itself that you get when you turn physical knobs, move faders and push buttons. That's when I came across this video several weeks ago. Telling me that I actually can assign a midi controller directly to the controls of a virtual midi instrument. Instead of just using it for controlling the DAW. That blew my mind. Also you put my attention to the MIDImix. I have buttons and faders on both the Akai MPK88 and my trusty Akai APC 40, but the amount on the MPK88 is limited, although I got a nice little taste of what can be done. Neither did I want to mess around with the setup for the APC 40. I'm fine with it doing what it does, integrating perfectly into Ableton out of the box. If it works, don't mess with it. I wanted a separate controller that I could feel free to just mess around with, without the risk of breaking the rest of my setup. In spite of doing extensive research on the Novation Launchpad and other alternatives I found that based on the various reviews, hailing the virtues of one or the other controller, the MIDImix still seems to me like the optimal combo of price and capabilities. I also have learned to appreciate the build quality of Akai controllers. So I have been really wanting a MIDImix for weeks now. Then recently my birthday came up, and my beloved big sister couldn't figure out what to give me. So she gave me money. About exactly enough to buy a MIDImix. How awesome is that? So now I'm eagerly awaiting a package in the mail, containing my own Akai MIDImix. Yay! I'm so excited, I can hardly wait. 😁 Looking forward to learning more about how to assign midi controls to the MIDImix. Thank you for making me aware of this and showing how it can be done. Keep up the good work. 👍

About the DJing-ish image setup that you showed, it's AmpFreqq2. That's why i bought it. It's basically a Dub live mixing tower, connected to the software AmpFreqq2. Since they design the soft for the midimix, the sell stickers , and even replacement knobs (they're higher than the originals). But, since i wanted to try to build mine, i've made a preset for Ableton, and it's really awesome to play with delays on this thing.
I've also seen some people using it for photo/video editing, connecting it to Photoshop or DaVinci Resolve. And gess what, apparently it's awesome too!
    I love this gear

I saw this beautiful beast of hardware today at a music shop and I thought: "I want to use this to control synths in Logic. So thank you for proving me that this is indeed possible. Also I'm thinking of making custom cardboard cutaways for the different synths I intend to use this with (which would emulate what the person who had the camouflage stickers on it but mine would be removable.)

The only thing I was concerned about with this controller was the size of the knobs. But, DJ Tech Tools sells their proprietary Chroma Caps and they'll fit on there! They're taller and will feel much better than the ones that ship with the Akai.
This was perfect man. Singlehandedly sold me on the Midimix! Ordering today. Thanks!!

I wanted a midi controller first and foremost to control Sugar Bytes Turnado. Then after driving myself doolally with the amount of controllers on the market, I finally chose the Launchpad 49 from Novation only for one of the knobs to stop working almost immediately. So that's where I'm at. Then I saw this on Amazon in stock and wandered around for videos on it, and saw yours. you've done a great job on selling me on this by the way. I too have an old midi keyboard I can use (For drums too) and yes I wont be able to connect the two devices, but that's not the end of the world for me. A big thank you for the video.

MIDIMix is very cool. I had one several years ago. I made a video on how to use MIDI learn on Akai Force andnthats still my most viewed video 😂. Anyway. One thing I'd recommend to anyone with or looking to buy a MIDIMix is to replace the stock knobs with aome with a taller, more grippy profile. It elevates it to even higher levels of usability. Jsut make sure you buy the correct fitting 👍

I'm getting back into producing after a hiatus of over a decade. I was an softsynth OG and my controller of choice was an Evolution UC16. I still have it but it's wonky and gives out all kinds of random signals. So I deciced to splash out and go for an all new setup with the midimix, an mpd 218 and an Arturia keylab 49 essential MK3. Oh and I accidentally ordered a mk1 Arturia as well wich I will probably be sending back. I still own FL studio and with the free liftime updates on that I dont think I need to spend on the software side. I bought the midimix especially with the intention of not using it as a mixer but more as a synth and effects controller.

I'm just getting started making music, and my current setup consists of my computer at my desk and my full-size weighted key Casio digital piano to the right of me. That's it. It's really awkward when I want to tweak parameters in Vital while I'm playing because my right hand is on my mouse and my left hand is fully extended under my right arm to my keyboard. But that's about to change soon, because I'll have an M-Audio Oxygen Pro 25 which not only fits on my desk right in front of me, but also has knobs. But then I would have to find a place for my typing keyboard because my desk is too small to have them both in a comfortable position on the desk. I'm mixing my first "real" track right now (which is still mostly an experiment) and I'm thinking if I'm gonna end up spending a lot of time mixing, a Midimix might be just what I need.

I have 8 different fx plugins mapped (1 to each channel) with all the important parameters linked to the above buttons and knobs on a single return track. All my tracks are being sent to one channel which the master fader can adjust the amount of fx to. Great video - super helpful with getting a better idea of what this thing can do before buying. I'm currently working on Logic and I'm just trying to find an affordable and mappable controller to mix tracks in real time. Emulating dub techniques with a mouse and keyboard is not nearly as fun lol. It seems that a big part of your love for the Midimix comes from its power with Ableton -would you recommend it to a Logic user like myself? Thanks!

I never got a grip on mapping with Logic, but these days I'm sure it's equally as capable! I've been toying with the idea of making some Logic Pro focused videos. Also, thank you for thek ind words Cofield!

    Maybe you can help.
Tech support is enthusiastic but uninformatuve.
I have 8 launchpad x’s being merged into a single 8 ch midi stream.
It will trigger percusdion sounds across 8 midi ch om a 1010 blackbox.
    All good.
But i need to send out a remapped clone of that 8 ch stream to a midi triggered DMX lighting controller.
The problem is, i only have about 30 light effects to trigger.
Which means out of the 512 different sounds across 8 midi ch, (8 x 64 pads/launchpad), i have to remap the 512 midi note #s across 8 ch down to 1 ch, with only about 18-20 note #s.
So note#s 1-19 on ch 1 would be remapped to note#2 on ch9.
20-40 on ch 1 remapped to to note#3 on ch9.
    41-64 on ch 1 remapped to notez#4 on ch9.
    That’s launchpad 1 64 note#s remapped.
Launchpad 2-8 incoming would be similar.
All being remapped to ch 9, but incremental note#s.
    5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-16, etc, up to about 30, in groups of 18-22 original note#s.
So that multiple pads will trigger same dmx light effect assigned to each of the 30 note#s on ch 9.
I’ve been searching for a box that can do this.
Closest i’ve come is midipipe, a free midi mapping app.
But the whole idea is to not have to use the computer at all, since it will be occupied with other tasks.
Can midimix remap incoming midi note#s across 8 midi ch down to 1 midi ch and about 30 different note #s?
    Thx
    Randy

I just got one for the exact same purpose as you it seems; fits me like a glove. However, anyone knows how to get the led lights to work? I've tried two of them and neither in bitwig nor ableton live does the mute and rec arm or any buttons at all light up.

    • @wowflower
      @wowflower  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

yeah the lights seem to do their own thing when you unmap their preset record/arm function. Not the end of the world though, especially considering the amount of mapping you'd need to write down / memorize.

@@wowflower Well both that we tested at the store I bought it never light up at all, none, at any time, in either live or bitwig, even before I touch any mapping or setting. So I guess my question is: If e.g. you just connect a new one out of the box to usb, should anything on it light up? (Also thank you for answering, and thank you for the video!)

Bro. Awesome video. I have a question about the banks. I’d like the first one to be a project template where each fader is the volume of an entire track, and then have the second bank represent the 8pads of the drum program specifically on an MPC. Is that possible?

    • @wowflower
      @wowflower  ปีที่แล้ว

yeah you just map it as such! you match each track fader in ableton with the faders on the device and same with the drum perimeters. it's all up to how you decide to map it!
