@@chrisdragnet722 fair enough, but to me the Riddler was a great antagonist, for this Year two Batman, he ultimately pushed the hero to have to step outside of his own psyche/viewpoint, to realize, he has to become something more for the city than jus t beating the shit out of of people of this own personal gain. I’m going to be real honestly the best part of The Dark Knight is Heath Ledger. He elevated the movie for me. To me Robert’s Bruce Wayne is not all the way there yet, cause he has not put on the billionaire playboy persona. I think Matt Reeves said over time he’ll showcase it. It gave me specifically the 90s animated series vibes. Plus I felt the character development for his Batman.
Someone said it best here: "The Dark Knight" is a better movie. But "The Batman" is a better Batman movie. I love both movies, and on a given day, my opinion on whether one's better than the other, can change. "The Dark Knight" puts that grounded cinematic shine to Batman's world that makes it feel more like a crime drama, just with Batman, Harvey Dent, and The Joker at the center. But "The Batman," to me, actually feels more like a lived in comic book movie, adapting the more seedy and more overtly pulp detective vibes to it. I'll disagree with Julian in the sense that Nolan's trilogy doesn't "feel like Gotham." AESTHETICALLY, I'll give him that. But the trilogy does a great job of establishing Gotham City as an entity; a character unto itself that is full of corruption. We see Gotham develop just through the characters like Gordon, Commissioner Loeb, the different villains, Harvey Dent, and how citizens react to Batman. "The Batman", I feel does all that as well, WHILE having the traditional, run-down look of Gotham of the comics. Martin saying Batman's not a good detective in "The Batman"; he's not really a good one in the Dark Knight Trilogy either. Though it should be noted that in both movies, Bruce Wayne is merely a year or two into being Batman, so the experience isn't necessarily there. As for the Bruce Wayne persona lacking in "The Batman"; that's actually the point. They outright say in the movie that he *should* be doing more, and shouldn't be committing to his cause at the expense of his civilian identity. End of the day, we can all go back and forth. I think "The Batman" deserves A LOT more credit though. If anything, the one main thing that's wrong with the movie is that "The Dark Knight" exists.
I’ll say one thing The Batman has over The Dark Knight trilogy: Better fight choreography. For as well made as those movies are, the action namely the hand to hand fights were never the high points.
@@gcolbypThe way the action was shot in the first one was definitely way too choppy; couldn’t see the choreography. But then in the second and third, we got to see the choreography, and it wasn’t great lol.
Disagree. The Batman is heavily influenced by Nolan's movies if people are being honest. It's closer to them than the comics. Therefore, Nolan's movies deserve more credit for trailing that path. Especially because the quality is higher. As far as getting things "right", Bruce Wayne and his outward persona is perfect in The Dark Knight whereas The Batman gets that "wrong". That's a rigid way of looking at things though. It's good to allow different interpretations. The Batman is aesthetically somewhat more true to the source material and they have more scenes where he's a detective. But the reason that the Penguin doesn't look like the comics, for example, is because they're still leaning more towards Nolan's style.

The Batman definitely has the best depiction of Gotham imo. Love it’s goth-y art deco design. It’s stylised whilst still looking like a place that could really exist.
The Batman's Gotham was much better realized than any of the other movies. And I agree with Julian that the ending of the Dark Knight was ridiculous. The convicts would overpower the guards and blow up the other ferry no doubt!
The point of the movie is that the Joker is wrong and people, even criminals, are good deep inside and wouldn't commit mass m*rder given the chance. Regardless of your apparent belief that everyone is a psycho, not having that ending would've ruined all the set up of the movie and be narratively unsatisfying. They would have to rewrite the complete movie to give you your "everyone is ready to commit mass m*rder at all times" narrative.
The entire point is if either side pushes the trigger the joker wins the thought experiment, that soul of Gotham is already irredeemable. Batmans faith in humanity wins out against the jokers chaos, which is a much more interesting finale than a fistfight.
Yeah I agree with Julian on this. The dark knight is the GOaT as far as Batman or DC films in my opinion but The Batman is as good if not better than Batman begins and I love all three of those films. Dark Knight, then The Batman then Batman Begins. The Batman to me is the best Batman movie and The Dark Knight is one of the best comic book films and just films in general ever made.

I got to say it! The Penguin tv show on MAX has expanded the The Batman Universe. I like The Batman even more than The Dark Knight. Gotham, Pennyworth and Birds of Prey tried to do a No Batman tv shows and those 3 were wack!

He didn’t say The Batman was better or just as good as the dark night he said it was close. The dark night is an amazing movie and The Batman is a really good movie. The main separation is that heath ledger gave a great performance and passed away before it saw the light of day. Nostalgia for certain times/people is always going to overpower modern opinion whether it’s true or not.
That is true the Ledgar Joker performance is up there but can I put it above say all the great times Mark Hammill voice the Joker or Nicholson's no I'd say they're all up there. But with Nolan fans there does seem to be this overwhelming love that some times you can't see the forest from the trees mindset.
Also, the writing for The Dark Knight beats anything the batman laid out. Character development of Harvey Dent, Gordon, Rachel, better than anything the batman did lol. There was so much more great about it than just the Joker. But it would be inconvenient mentioning these things to fit your narrative now wouldn't it?
@@ss2gora0 that’s not true. Nolan had great writing but so did Reeves and I can pick out MASSIVE flaws in the dark knight just like I can in the Batman I’m saying it’s more HEATH LEDGER that carries the movie. Going back to rewatch it now with that in mind it doesn’t have the same impact. Not to say it’s not a good movie but it’s not as “amazing” as everyone makes it seem. Just like with people calling Biggie and PAC the best rappers only say that because THEY like their music and they passed away. That AUTOMATICALLY makes you look at things through rose tinted glasses.
When I saw "The Dark Knight" in theaters, I remember being READY TO GO during the boat scene with Deebo. I remember saying to myself "Gat damn, this movie just keeps going" and I kept adjusting in my seat. That's how I know "The Dark Knight" was a decent movie but it wasn't great like a lot of people made it out to be. When movies are really good, you don't notice the time.
I would make the argument that the reason Robert Pattinson doesn't come off like a good Bruce Wayne is that this version of the character prioritizes being Batman over Bruce Wayne.
I agree, I think they pretty intentionally had him at a point where he only cares about his mission as The Batman, so Bruce Wayne is pretty much inconsequential at that point. I’ll be very interested to see how/if they build up Bruce as a person and persona in the next couple of movies. Assuming we get to see them, of course!
I enjoyed The Batman but I hope Gunns version of Batman fights his superpowered villains , Man Bat , Mr Freeze , Poison Ivy , etc . I’m tired of seeing the same villains and even though they’re done well , I wanna see him actually FIGHT his villain for once . Knowing how Gunn likes adding obscure characters, it would be cool if they added Scarface in the new Batman .
Bruce Wayne being underdeveloped is kinda the point, he isn't putting on the facade of the playboy billionaire yet, he's fully committed to his life to being Batman becoming a recluse and that's even part of his relationship with Alfred in the movie is that Alfred reminds him of his past life as Bruce. I'm sure in the sequel part of his arc will be developing that philanthropist business man persona of Bruce Wayne we all known.
For me, The Dark Knight trilogy was never about Christian Bale's Batman. It was about the Joker and then to a lesser degree Bane. The Batman feels like it's about Batman and it pulls it off without a hitch. If you're looking for competition with the joker, I have to point to Colin Farrell's Penguin. I mean, he got a show that's full of nonstop bangers
I prefer The Batman over Darknight He wasn't Bruce Wayne on movie. He was The Batman in that movie. He was never Bruce Wayne. The end of the movie is when he discovered Bruce Wayne
Unpopular opinion but The Batman is better to me than the Dark Knight. I agree with Julien. I actually think Batman Begins is better than the Dark Knight. The Dark Knight is more of a crime epic than a Batman movie.
I saw a comment on a video a year ago with their interpretation of Bruce in this film. “He doesn’t know how to be “Bruce Wayne” yet. All his focus is being the Batman”

We're going to act like Batman TAS was a masterpiece in fight scenes. I love the cartoon but dude was just throwing heimakers and judo throwing thugs. And you're underselling Bale, his fights didn't look the best but keisi fight style was an interesting choice and he employed some really good elbow strikes and counters.
"The Batman" is the closest thing we got to a live action version of "Batman: The Animated Series." "The Dark Knight" was memorable simply because of Heath Ledger's performance as "The Joker." Let's keep it 100. You take Ledger out of the picture and The Dark Knight is a pretty mid sequel. Heath Ledger took that movie to another stratosphere. "The Batman" is the first time I've ever seen where Batman is the star and the focal point. In every other entry Batman almost takes a back seat to his villains. "The Batman" was the first time a Batman movie was about Batman.
@@kingghxstgamingThe Batman is trash he is a emo Gothic cosplaying Batman afraid to kiss a girl I mean wtf he goes the whole movie without kissing the catwoman😂😂😂😂
The 'dark knight' is the bond of batman films where as 'the batman' is the detective version of the batman films. So imo 'the batman' is the truest version of the caped crusader.
Dark Knight is kind of dumb without the Joker. Bale's Batman has all of these over the top gadgets. Using cell phone data to give him super X-Ray vision? Really. Plus the ending where the people on the boat struggling with the moral decision to blow up the other boat was super corny.
I'd say Dark Knight is still the top Batman film due to its super tight script, there's so many characters, arcs and themes in it and it all fits so well, Joker's rise, Harvey's fall and how Bruce had to compromise, the ending is super bold, but it captures Batman's spirit of justice like no other film out there. Batman's dialogue with Harvey at the end still gives me the chills. The Batman though, I'd have to rewatch it, but I do think it's a close second, just for the atmosphere alone, I don't remember much of my first viewing, but I do remember the atmosphere, and this movie nailed it. The grit is strong.
The Batman is comfortably better for me. As much as I love Bale, Pattinson was so much more compelling as Batman & he had a better story arc than any of the Nolan films.
What a dumb claim to make considering TDK was a literal trilogy giving us the origins, the prime and the end of Bruce as Batman. While the Pattison movie didn't even do much with the character and even if it would have, it's just one movie when compared to three. Gtfo.

Choosing between The Batman and The Dark Knight is tough for me, because both are excellent realistic depictions of Batman and his rogues gallery. The two movies really complement each other.
Hear me out; IF Heath Ledger didn't deliver the performance he delivered, no one would dispute that The Batman is the better film. No one ever talks about anything outside of his Joker. We still wear those blinders. The Batman works for its TITULAR CHARACTER and TONE.
I got to be really honest, i think heath ledger's performance is the only thing i really like about the dark knight. Theres many aspects i like about The Batman though.
The Batman might be a better “batman” but The Dark Knight is a better film. The Dark Knight isn’t perfect. The last couple minutes needed editing after joker was dealt with. HOWEVER… THE BATMAN needs a lot of editing. It’s long, often boring, is less interesting to rewatch and tries to force a dull romance. The atmosphere is fantastic because it imitates multiple David Fincher films but it lacks the precision. The best thing to come from The Batman is The Penguin. In my humble opinion.
The Dark Knight is better by a photo finish, and we all know why. Aside from the villain, The Batman is a better film in almost every other way. Especially when it comes to depicting Batman
I think The Batman is more enjoyable than The Dark Knight in my opinion. I think there are problems with the plot and editing that Heath Ledger's performance saves, mainly when action sequences are shown. But even the opening scene doesn't make much sense logistically. How do you back a school bus up a ton of steps from a two-lane road? How do the cops pass them by and not notice the damaged bus or have a description? Everyone on the street would have had to completely ignore what was happening and not call the cops, which I find hard to believe, considering it was a school bus with what people had to believe were children. I enjoy The Dark Knight a lot, but it's not infallible.
Upon rewatching The Batman a few times. It is better than The Dark Knight. Pattinson's Bruce hasn't focused on crafting his Bruce Wayne public persona. His Batman is a far better detective. Unfortunately, there were still some aspects that he needed ironing out. Now he has to rethink his strategy and approach to helping/defending Gotham. Batman has to become a different symbol, other than VENGEANCE; Bruce Wayne has to become something more than a recluse and abscent public figure. Now the city needs him as both Bruce AND Batman. The ending was definitely better. Cause Batman and the GCPD lost. He actually lost. Thousands of people died in the flood. We see the ramifications in The Penguin. They died because he wasn't AS good as he thought he was. Had he been able to figure out the tucker clue sooner, he could have prevented the flood. Unfortunately, he didn't know. Same thing about the "rat". He could have prevented Falcone's death. Now he has to reinvent himself and refocus on being better. To try and inspire HOPE instead of VENGEANCE. The Riddler was always about testing Batman's mental fortitude. Pushing his mind to the limit. Which helped to keep him sharp and focused. That's why he's a the world's greatest detective. Its the little things with Riddler, that you need to focus on. Weird how no one brought up the different stories adapted into THE BATMAN: Zero Year, Year One, The Long Halloween, Ego, and setup for No Man's Land (which is being explored in The Penguin). This movie setup it's own world with different moving parts. Tbh, aside from Burton's Batman, this version of Gotham feels more alive. Julian had a point on that one.
The Batman is set in Year 2 We get Detective Batman . Wait until the sequel of The Batman. Put sequel against sequel. Dark Knight has only the Heath Ledger which makes it way better….. because nobody talks about the other two “Batman Begins” and “Dark Knight Rises “
The entire point of the character arc in The Batman is he has to learn to become more than vengeance. He hasn’t developed the Bruce Wayne persona yet, which is an intentional choice.
You can poke holes in The Batman. Batman is supposed to be a great detective. He was stumped by not knowing Spanish 😂. So I felt Martin when he said that at 1:51. On top of that Batman sees images of the club but doesn’t go “hey riddler must have took these from across the street” So he’s not a great detective. Also Riddler is wanted to punish the elite but floods Gotham killing the poor.
I don't get the impression he received any formal police or detective training at an academy. He most likely has a huge collection of books specializing in forensic science and detective work. He's basically self taught.
You can do the same with The Dark Knight. The whole intro makes no sense, the bus magically appears and rescues him just in time, same when he leaves. In the prison, Joker makes the bomb go off and everybody gets knocked out except him. Batman himself is a pretty boring character and also makes mistakes, letting Rachel die for just trusting what the Joker says. It's not a perfect movie by any means.

Sure The Dark Knight is a masterpiece that’s held up by the amazing direction and once in a lifetime level performance by Health Ledger.
The Batman is on par with The Dark Knight and 1989's Batman as the best big screen adaptations of Batman 🦇

My head canon is that they had the detonators to their own bombs as a final little joke by the Joker
@@Vislow See it's speculations like this that make TDK miles ahead of any other batman movie.

Rewatched the trilogy;
Dark knight is STILL one of the best movies of ALL time 💯
I enjoyed The Batman but I hope Gunns version of Batman fights his superpowered villains , Man Bat , Mr Freeze , Poison Ivy , etc . I’m tired of seeing the same villains and even though they’re done well , I wanna see him actually FIGHT his villain for once .
Knowing how Gunn likes adding obscure characters, it would be cool if they added Scarface in the new Batman .
Don’t forget killer croc.
But this a Matt Reaves movie tho…
Bruce Wayne being underdeveloped is kinda the point, he isn't putting on the facade of the playboy billionaire yet, he's fully committed to his life to being Batman becoming a recluse and that's even part of his relationship with Alfred in the movie is that Alfred reminds him of his past life as Bruce. I'm sure in the sequel part of his arc will be developing that philanthropist business man persona of Bruce Wayne we all known.
Heath pretty much kills this debate.
I love the Dark Knight but that movie is slightly overrated, I don't it's this amazing masterpiece, I think it's just a great movie.
Wrong. TDK is damn near flawless.
TDK trilogy was never about Batman? Lol. Gtfo. It literally starts with the origins of the character and ends with his redemption. You are an idiot.

Dark Knight is a more seasoned Batman than The Batman movie.
The Batman might be a better “batman” but The Dark Knight is a better film.
The Dark Knight isn’t perfect. The last couple minutes needed editing after joker was dealt with.
HOWEVER…
THE BATMAN needs a lot of editing. It’s long, often boring, is less interesting to rewatch and tries to force a dull romance.
The atmosphere is fantastic because it imitates multiple David Fincher films but it lacks the precision.
The best thing to come from The Batman is The Penguin. In my humble opinion.
I have been feeling like I was the only one that found it kinda boring.
I think we can ALL agree that The Batman gave us one of the greatest versions of (on-screen) Oswald Cobblepot.
The Batman is set in Year 2 We get Detective Batman . Wait until the sequel of The Batman. Put sequel against sequel. Dark Knight has only the Heath Ledger which makes it way better….. because nobody talks about the other two “Batman Begins” and “Dark Knight Rises “
The “Batman” is Mattlock as Batman , The Dark Knight = Batman the animated series
Batman (1989) is better. That is the correct answer.
Man I just can’t see the Batman being “better” than TDK. TDK trounces the Batman in almost every regard.
What’s mostly great about TDK, is Joker lol. That movie felt like Joker was the main character

On top of that Batman sees images of the club but doesn’t go “hey riddler must have took these from across the street”
So he’s not a great detective.
Also Riddler is wanted to punish the elite but floods Gotham killing the poor.

I just happen to enjoy The Batman more.
How is this even a question? The Dark Knight is obviously waaay better!
Imagine if Keanu Reeves was Batman/Cleric and Christian Bale was Neo/Jonh Wick 🤯
The Batman is not even on the same level as The Dark Knight.
I completely agree, The Batman is FAR above TDK good point.
@@MattAlbie Keep coping
@MattAlbie a man who knows what he's talking about.
@@MattAlbiehahahhaha....not even close....the batman loses its suspense when batman survives the explosion....then all the subplots of him and his parents and selina kyle are sooooo damn boring and really are a chore to get througth
@@ss2gora0 I'm not coping with anything. One movie has Batman in it. The other has a kind of stupid guy who has all of his stuff made for him, who barely does any detective work ever, who's got one of the worst looking bat suits and a severe downgrade from the BB suit. Deal with it.
Comic fans will say The Batman, movie fans are going to say TDK. That simple.
I think you guys missed the point. In Matt Reeves' The Batman, Robert Pattinson's character IS Batman. "Bruce Wayne" is just another name he is called when not in costume but at ALL times he is Batman. He does not have a "Bruce Wayne" persona...yet.
Umm no
I like what they did with The Joker in Matt Reeves' Batman. He was able to break down The Riddle just by looking at a few photos.
The Batman is the slowest garbage Batman movie I have ever seen… the only people who likes that garbage are kids that come from the emo era..
For those of us who read Batman comics, The Dark Knight is an excellent piece. The portrait of Gotham as a city in moral decline, the human complexity and pyschological foundation of both Bruce and Batman, the well crafted side characters who do justice to a realistic portrait of their comic counterparts.
No batman movie will ever do what The Dark Knight has done.
I'm sorry but, Nolan got it 100%.
Nolan's Batman films aren't great Batman films. The Batman is both a great Batman film and a great FILM.
Gtfo fool. Hack Reeves's Flatman is literally the worst Batman movie of all time.
Not really a fair comparison when one has three and the other one has one but I'll say this if you take Heath ledger out the dark Knight I do think that the bad man is better written story. I think that Heath ledger himself elevates that movie to a point that people ignore a lot of it's flaws
A movie is not just the script. It's the acting, editing and cinematography. Saying that Heath Ledger elevates to the point people ignore its flaws doesn't make it a lesser movie, if anything it makes it a better movie as it proves to be something greater than the sum of its parts.
