The 12v plugs were added to keep the guys from splicing into the vehicle's wiring to charge their Ipods and such, like they were doing with other vehicles.

Its because of IEDs, most of the troops killed in Iraq/Afganistan are killed by them. Humvees don't have enough armor or wieght to deal with them. This truck has a armored v haul to deflect explosions from underneth. Its also huge to keep it from being lifted up and flipped over by an IED. Hopefully it saves some lives.

First, OSHKOSH truck is one of the Army and Marine Corps big truck manufacture. Producing equipment such as the HEMTT, HET, PLS, MTVR and LVSR. Dont confuse the name with the B'Gosh clothes maker. Dont believe the stuff thats printed in a magazine. The 12v outlet is not there for the troops to use. Its a plug for diagnostic equip. It can power any 12v device, BUT its prone to power surges and can fry an Ipod. The price of 1.4 mil is fully loaded with all the latest high tech military gear

Drove one of these for a year in the shithole/Afghanistan - Great vehicle! ... not that much room for the driver, bur can do a lot of shit. I only got stuck once, rammed a lot of shit, and went up some impossible terrain!. Love my MATV!

  • @03SN8K
    @03SN8K 14 ปีที่แล้ว

Dont get stuck on the price thats quoted. The high dollar amount is not just the base M-ATV. That amount is including all the high end military gear that is placed in it.

@landopando I have repaired and rebuilt both 1151s and MATV.and i disagree, the MATV regardless of maintenece support ,which will get better in time, has a less body count then that steel coffin 1151.upgrades are easier to bolt and the new anti-VBIED netting system is holding up here in Kandahar and Wilson

The names are all descriptive of the purpose or role. HMMWV aka hummer/humvee. Just the name was derived from the sound of the acronym. MRAP M-ATV, its an all terrain vehivce MRAP. So how does its name sound foreign? Its just a straight forward name of the vehicles purpose or role. Other similar names, HET- Heavy Equipment Transporter MTVR-Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement these names of different trucks are just the acronym of their purpose.

Closing overseas bases sounds like an excellent idea. It would absolutely generate some savings
though I think there are political entanglements given the amount of money US bases pump into
the local economies. Base closure here in the states was hugely controversial and never really generated the promised savings. I would expect that it would be even worse with overseas bases. You seem to have a lot of ideas and I'd like to hear more specifics.

I have driven and commanded both the 1151 HMMWV and the MATV in Afghanistan and would take a slightly improved 1151 over the MATV. It is obvious that the MATV was rushed into the field and has several defects as well as insufficient maintenance support.

Would love to have one. I'd drive it everywhere... although I don't think people would understand why I'm going so slow taking the on ramp onto the freeway... I'd piss off a lot of people taking 32 seconds to reach 60mpg and in many states I couldn't even do the speed limit of 70-75mph Haha. That's worst than a fully loaded tractor trailer.

A buddy of mine was by a humvee after a patrol, they were fucking with him (he'd run to get in, they'd speed up...just fuckin around), and they sped up one time and hit a car bomb, blew the whole fucking thing to bits. He had to walk 8 hours in the afghan desert to get back to base. While I think the shit's overpriced (you could get it for cheaper), it's definitely worth it.

@crombieposterboy they DID. It's called the M-ATV. Why is this so hard for you to understand? If you watched the video, it's not necessarily the M-ATV that is expensive. It's the communications equipment and night vision that IS. The HMMWV carries the same or very similar equipment, including Blue Force Tracker, GPS, and either PRC 119's or 152's. I've seen the SL-3 and SL-4 lists in detail that prove this.
I pay taxes too. The only time I don't is when I'm deployed fighting for your freedom.

Submit a bid for your own solution under the price point you mentioned.
Alternately, you can spec out a comparable version and let us know. You claimed it can be done for under
$2 million/unit. If you possess some insight on protected vehicle design and manufacturing I'd like to know.
I'm not saying that the M-ATV doesn't suffer from some price inflation but there were 10 competitors
and the competition was pretty heavily documented.

Have you been to Afghanistan? Because I'm here right now.I promise you, anything the Taliban wants to know about our equipment, or anything else we are doing here, they already know. We patrol their streets, and backyards like we own them. They know where we sleep, etc. Operational Security is a factor, but this video doesn't show anything that the "enemy" doesn't already know.

SOUTH AFRICANS and RHODESIANS were pioneers in this. There was no technology in ATV´s invented by Americans. The U.S is using old, time tested vehicle reformations, thats all.
It offended me so much when I heard R.Lee.Ermey from Mailcall say the U.S invented these type of vehicles like the Buffel..

soldiers are a valuable reasource, i have no problem giving them the best protection availible. And the cold hard fact is the 4 men inside that vehical probably costed the military 2 million to train so it's a pretty good buisness decision as well. The military would rather spend money than risk soldiers lives. I would too.

Really, all of this *this is as waste of money* is pathetic. Soldiers cost multi-millions to train invidually, along with time. If an E-6 Staff Sergeant is killed by an IED the military just lost 10 years and millions of dollars invested. Spend an extra 1.5 to keep him alive then not only is a HUMAN LIFE SAVED, but an investment by your tax dollars that continues to grow. As a soldier I'm so happy to see all of you people truly care to know that I'm getting the best life saving equipment.
