As a retirement hobby, I turned half of my lounge into a home recording studio as you do. 😄 I'm also into PKM (personal knowledge management) and making linked notes in Obsidian and was getting fed up with trying to use a mouse to create diagrams/drawings in Obsidian Excalidraw. I hate to look down for long periods so instead of getting a graphics pad with a built-in screen I got a screenless model. It's great and has pressure and tilt but they're not used in Excalidraw. Now I have Painter 2023 and I'm loving learning to draw and paint. Your videos have been such a help. Subbed.
I know what you mean about looking down - I also use a screenless pen tablet for that very reason (a Huion Inspiroy 1060p). I also have a second hand iPad for gratuitous drawing in bed though 😁
@@RoxaneLapa I got a Huion Inspiroy Dial 2. I still need to decide which controls will be doing what and I like being able to set up different configurations for different apps taking into account the use case. Back to the DrawABox exercises as I'm a total newb.
I've recently been fascinated by the illustrations of John Austen and Aubrey Beardsley. The Ligne Claire style also looks so simple but it's very frustrating for me to do. I also want to explore more brush type inking someday but I still find the controls hard to use.
When you watch the pros it does look deceptively simple, but you can get to that level with focused practice. The best way to learn is to try and duplicate a piece of art that you really like. Try and copy it exactly. This is called a master study. That will help you develop an eye for how these artists shape things and develop your muscle memory so it will become successively easier for you. Good luck :)
Hi Roxy, I am using Corel Painter 2021 and installed the ink brush pack suitable for Corel 2021 but now Corel crashes whenever I try to open it. How can I uninstall the brush pack if I cannot open Corel ?
Hey Brian. You can find the brushes here: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Corel\Painter 2021\Default\Brushes\Painter 21 Brushes If you delete the folder "RXY Inking Brushes", it will uninstall it. Thanks for letting me know about the issue. I did test it on 21, but maybe I can get rid of the 1 brush that has issues with older versions and re export to be on the safe side. I'll take care of t tomorrow and will let you know via these comments when you can download a new copy.
It was quick to fix, so I've uploaded a fresh patched version to roxanelapa.gumroad.com/l/rxycomicinking Luckily I didn't have to delete any brushes. It was just a matter of changing the method from 'enhanced cover' to 'cover'. I'm so sorry this has been a problem. I should have tested more thoroughly!
@@RoxaneLapa I deleted the 'RXY Inking Brushes' folder and also restarted my pc just in case but the problem persists - Painter 21 keeps crashing on opening. Do you have any other advice to get Painter working again.
@@briankeaveney9360 if you click to open Painter and then immediately hold down the shift key, it should pop up a window with reset options. If you tick the 'all brushes' option that should reset the brushes to how they were when you installed. If you have any of your own brushes that you don't want to lose, I'd suggest copying the folder of your personal brushes (in the same location as the inking brush folder) and making a copy of the options.dat file which lists what brush categories are installed. Please let me know if that did the trick? If it is still crashing, is it giving you an error before it crashes?

On opening a message box with the following warning is displayed: 'RXY Ink Taper has one or more settings that are incompatible with this version of Painter. The variant will be loaded but may look different than expected'. I can do nothing until I hit the OK button on the message box but then Painter immediately crashes even if I'm holding down the shift key. I discovered a repair utility among the program files and have run that a few times but it hasn't made any difference. The only other thing I can do is uninstall/reinstall but I'm not sure where to find the original installation file. If I don't have the original install file then I'll be without Painter after uninstalling. I've sent a help message to Corel and am awaiting their reply. In the meantime if you have any further advice please let me know.
