  • On the bench today is the 2024 Squier Affinity Series Jaguar Electric Guitar released in July of 2024.
I will be honest that I purchased this guitar solely to modify it. My hope when I ordered it was the neck was in good shape and playable and the body was routed deep enough to take a set of single coil sized p90 pickups that I already had.
The guitar is manufactured in China.
The body is made of Poplar and finished in a Gloss Polyurethane. The guitar comes in two finishes Mystic Metallic Brown and 3-Color Sunburst.
The neck is made of maple and comes with either an Indian Laurel (3-Color Sunburst) or Maple Mystic Metallic Brown) fretboard.
The fretboard radius is 9.5 inches and there are 22 medium jumbo frets. The scale length of the guitar is 24 inches.
    Nut Width 1.650"
    Nut Material Synthetic Bone
There is a single tone control and a single volume control.
The guitar has a Telecaster style 3-way pickup selector switch with the same functionality.
The Factory pickup configuration is two ceramic single coil pickups.
The guitar comes with a mustang style bridge and a vintage style jaguar/Jazzmaster tremolo that is mounted the vintage distance from the bridge and not the modern distance like the new Player II Jaguar.
New the Squier Affinity Jaguar goes for $299, and the guitar has not been released at this time long enough to have data on used sales.
My guitar weighs 8 pounds and 3 ounces or 3.730 kilos.
Measuring the guitar’s impedance the bridge pickup measures in at 7.24 k ohms while both pickups measure 3.62 k ohms. Finally, the neck measures in at 7.03 k ohms.
While running my hands up and down feeling the sides of the neck, the fret edges are not rough and do not need to have any work done to them.
I checked all frets for raised frets that would be causing fret rocking. I found three frets that had small areas that were raised, and I quickly took care of this with my fret kisser file and some sandpaper.
The guitar is routed for up to full size humbucker pickups for both the bridge and neck locations.
The Squier Affinity pickups and electronics are inexpensive components. The pickups are ceramic, and the pots are cheaply made.
I plan to upgrade the tuners to a set of Gotoh Schaller-style Knob 6-In-Line Tuners that cost new around $49.
Next, I would replace the bridge and tremolo with Fender US made parts.
Fender American Professional Jaguar/Jazzmaster Assembly, Nickel Electric Guitar Bridge (7709942049) $79.
    Fender 54466049 Tremolo for Electric
    Guitar (0054466049) $90.
About a year ago I purchased a set of used Single Coil Sized P90 pickups made by Magneto Design Labs - P90-SC STRAT-SIZED P90. I plan on using these pickups in the project. Link is in this video’s description.

For a brand-new set they go for about $190. At the time I purchased mine there was a long wait time to get the pickups, so I purchased a used set in mint condition for $190. They were the only ones for sale at the time on the used market. People like them and keep them installed in their guitars.
Overall this is a nice guitar - but for a modding platform there are some challenges I will cover in detail in the next video.

After seeing this video I was looking to get one of these, but landed on the offset Telecaster. It has the body and single coils I wanted. Plus, the tuning stability is a plus because of the hardtail bridge. I've always liked the Jag, but never really used the trem.
Thanks again for doing what you do. Cheers!

I have a Harley Benton JA-60 in Dakota Red. It is very impressive sounding and playing guitar in spite of its bargain basement price. Have you considered checking one of these out?
    You would probably like it!
PS: The utube channels "60 Cycle Hum" and "Science of Loud" have a couple of videos each on the original guitar as well as modding videos (1M pot upgrades & trem install)

Standard Fender made Mustang Bridge. I had to pull the old cups and replace them with what came with the mustang bridge.
