I’m a fellow live-aboard boater and unfortunately it’s not just that CRT don’t clean up the canals often enough but as soon as they do a certain group of idiots decide that to chuck all their crap into the canal!!! just for laughs or laziness or they lack any decency! And it’s usually the boaters that suffer……… it can be a hard life and certainly Robbie was having a bad day but the rewards of the tranquility and nature that you’re surrounded by are priceless. Also the pure pleasure of the sound of your engine as you pootle along the canal is bliss! It is a lovely way of life, but yes maybe not for everyone! 😊
I remember reading John Bunyan's 'Pilgrim's Progress' many years ago, and this somehow reminded me of it. You've been through the Slough of Despond (Birmingham) and emerged intact. I can only admire your resilience, and commitment to narrow boating. I'm much older than you, and I don't think I could handle it at this point in my life.

The first thing I bought when I got my boat was a compost toilet. I had a cassette but couldn't cope with emptying it. Someone I know had a pump out on their brand new boat and it leaked under their floor. That put me off. I went a bit mad and paid £1000 for my loo so I call it the throne 😂
