To put it simply, the FD Rx7 was Mazda's attempt at a perfect rotary, and it surpassed all expectations.

NA rotary is the pure rotary spirit. Turbo rotary is that rotary spirit + and then something extra. The smile never, ever gets old or goes away in either form.
Rotary turbo is one the best motors ever put in one of the best cars ever made. I do miss my FD a lot, but I think I miss my 1st Gen more, it’s was a pain to work on but such a great car to learn to race in. I keep considering getting another 1st or 3rd Gen but I’d swap the rotary for something easier to live with and race with. They are too much work, not reliable enough unless you have the time to rebuilt them often.
