Jeff & Co --- THANK YOU. Your videos have sincerely changed my life for the better. I stumbled upon Home Renovision a year and a half ago, after deciding to purchase my grandparents' 1954 home. Our basement was a time capsule to the 1960's, and the upstairs wasn't much better. I started with ZERO knowledge, experience or exposure to tools, carpentry, and so on. I now have a full fledged wood workshop in the garage, countless hours of hands-on experience & the wisdom to tackle the rest of my home. My grandfather has since passed... but in that time, I was able to show him my appreciation, love & dedication to the house he lived in for 50+ years --- built by his father before him.
On a lighter note, my spoiled kids are now reaping the rewards of the 450 sq ft bed & bath renovation you guided me through.
To keep things brief, my first project as a diy'er included:
    - Discovering major water damage, mold, and termites (yikes)
    - Demo'ing all trim, drywall, insulation, carpeting, sink, toilet, shower & windows
    - Repaired rotted sections of exterior sheathing, studs & sill plates
    - New house wrap, hose spigot & siding repairs
    - Air & Weather sealed every single gap
    - New insulation, vapor barrier, drywall, flooring, trim, shower, sink, toilet, hardware, windows, etc.
    - Added overhead lighting, additional circuits, and so forth
You've taught a man to fish. For that, I can't thank you and your family enough. Your incredibly thorough & high quality content has enhanced my family's life for years to come.
More impressive than that --- I now love to mud drywall. You've created a monster.
    - Bryan

I have been binge-watching your videos for weeks now. I really wish I had seen the beginning of the series before I put up the dry wall. I literally put up the dry wall on Friday and Saturday and found your video series on Monday. I went back home and started to repair all the goof-ups I made over the weekend. These are easily the best series on dry-walling and home improvement that I've found. I can't stop watching them. Thank you for the time, the effort, and the extra explanations and demonstrations you include in each video. It's not simply "Do it like this. You don't want to do that." You take the time to "do it the wrong way" to illustrate why and then show how to fix it. I fall into the "did it wrong, have to fix it" category. These videos are priceless. Thank you.

We just bought our first home, a 114 year old Craftsman. We are reconfiguring the layout and have a hallway, walk-in closet, laundry room, and office to drywall. Long story short, lots of joints and corners. Thank you so much for all the time you put in to these tutorials. Switching to the bucket and hock and repurposing that pan as a planter.

I purchased a new home with Lennar Builder in Forney,Texas. My walls and ceilings has calking that have separated in several areas throughout my home. And my walls and ceilings have ridges, where it is very noticeable especially at night. I have had several contractors give me estimates of about ten thousand dollars. But I truly can say, you are a very truthful person, that take pride in what you do. I watched your video's step by step and found it amazing. I really can do this and do this like a professional. I truly thank you, and wish alot of supposing to be sheetrock contractors would study your video's.

Your explanations on finishing are spot on, I had a lady call me, said she did the bedding and touch up(2nd) coat herself, and needed a price on just the skim coat. I knew better than to give her a quote without looking at her coats, and when i got there, I made her watch your videos. Lol. Finishing is a science for each coat!

Thanks for the videos. Have learned over the years that drywalling is more of an art than it is a trade. It takes practice, patience, and persistence. I've spent so many hours mudding, taking off mud, putting it back on, sanding, second coat, sanding, and final coat. Your steps make so much sense to me now! - keep it thin, don't fuss over ridges/high points, and keep going! Used all of your steps verbatim in my last bathroom project and took me half the time of my previous drywall jobs. THANKS MAN!!

I should have watched these videos before I started my bathroom project. I tell myself that I am hiring a professional the next time I do this, because I get so frustrated trying to make everything perfect, and I lose motivation. I consider myself pretty handy and I can do most renovations myself, to a certain quality level, but this is one task that I need to work on. I am going to get after it tomorrow and take a different approach now that I have this information. Thank you for going into such great detail and making this process easy to follow.

Great video series as usual but I didn't understand your taping method. Worrying about tape over tape as most would find themselves within the beveled flat joint. The way I was taught was butts, flats, inside than outside that way all tapes kinda hold themselves down by the next without worry of coating early and pulling back or moving. Also a little trick I learnt when taping joints around receptacles. Just fold a paper tape up 2-3 times and stuff it in there and coat away like the box was never there. If you find yourself worried before final coat you will loose it because the shrinkage wasn't there just push it in a bit beforehand so you can find it later. It's super easy and the electricians appreciate that when they come their boxes/ wireres aren't coated in mud

You have been a huge help with this series and the new videos throughout my drywall phase. One thing I wanted to pass on related to dirt/debris. I started noticing orange fibers in my mud and they kept coming up even with new batches. Turns out, I must have scraped the mud from the barrel with the knife too aggressively and it scratched the orange Home Depot bucket causing bucket fibers to get in the mud 🤦‍♂️ I had to dig the crap out of the dried mud, switched to a new bucket, and redo the mud batch. Be careful when loading up your hawk from the bucket! 😅

Hi Jeff, just watched this whole series again. I'm finally ready to tape. I took you're advice and hired a plumber for the bathroom sewage lines as he had to cut into the floor and move lines around. (Money well spent) Now that everything looks pretty good - my wife actually trusts me now to the the tapping. This weekend is the kickoff! Thanks to this channel I've gotten tips and more importantly confidence. You're the best. Brian

Liked learning more about he fade techniques to get the butt joints flat with minimal sanding. I understand the concept, but your technique is obviously the key to efficiency and a smooth job. I also never appreciated the importance of the gradual finishing over 4 applications of the compound. That really helps. Thanks.

I don't use ready mix mud anymore or paper tape. I replaced it with hot mud and mesh tape.
The corner are not as easy but with hot mud I get my corners done in 1 days.
Hot mud will never bubble, crack or shrink.

Thank you Jeff. I have truly enjoyed binge watching your 13 part series. I am a handyman in Victoria Australia with some experience of installing drywall and getting all my knowledge from TH-cam. I have come to handyman work towards the end of my working career and your teaching style just hits the spot for me. Your explanation of what, how, when, and why is boosting my skill level by degrees with every video I watch. Thanks again. Cheers from Aus!

Mr. Thorman I can't thank you enough for these videos, this is my go to channel for how to work on my house. I don't think I could keep building it on my own without your videos, The mudding is slick, and compared to what a friend of mine did in my other rooms (I'll be cursing the sanding in those rooms I know) your lessons are amazing and I can already tell there will be a minimum of sanding when I get started on that. I'm an adventurous sort, but mudding had me intimidated and I'm so much more confident. Again, thank you. And I'll be Joining because you've saved me so much not just by doing it myself, but my own time and labor.

Hugely informative series. I watched it all. I just finished sheetrocking my woodshop that I built and discovered you just in time. I've done plenty of minor sheetrocking in my life but never watched a pro. With your expert help, there will be a lot less sanding. I really appreciate it. I subscribed also.

This is great. I have a very poorly done set of garage walls that were repaired many times and painted poorly. I have been so well served by your videos. Thank you so much.
I am looking for a video to determine when a piece of dry wall is beyond saving - in a situation where a lot of damage occurred and also when the painting, taping and sanding was done incorrectly.

Hurricane Sally did a job on my house. No HO insurance. So I'm trying to DIY on repairs. I have a wall next to my fireplace that I had to remove because of mold. I also have a wet bar on that side of the fireplace wall. I cut the existing drywall from ceiling to the top edge of the countertop backsplash. Now I don't know how to attach the new drywall to the existing old drywall at the backsplash edge since it is even with the backsplash top edge. I'm not able to reach behind the drywall due to the fireplace brick wall. I have pics if you would like to have a visual of the mess. I would be so grateful for any suggestions. Thank you and I can tell you take pride in your work. Noticeably a perfectionist. You're awesome.

I use two of benches with a 8' - 13' extendable scaffolding stretched between them.
Really nice control on the mud and trowl.
Really great that you taught the reason the joint mudding has to be so wide.

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Have you tried the wallboard bucket blade? It is excellent in a 5 gallon bucket of mud. It is so much better then taking your trowel or mud knife to clean the walls of the bucket. It is so much easier and does a way better job. I clean a bucket wall with my tapping knife. then ran the bucket blade over what I did with my tape knife. Bucket knife won hands down.

So I'm drywalling my bathroom and it's the first time I've ever done any type of drywall or mudding and I have been watching your videos for a month now and I feel.. I felt like it was going to be cake no problem I knew exactly how to do it from what you showed me I'm already an expert and I haven't even mixed up any mud yet. Then I mixed up mud and boy did I mess it up I just took it all off and wound up getting the drywall all wet it's a mess now but you made it look so easy that I thought it was going to be easy but it is really not that easy so I'm kind of upset with you because you made me feel like an expert before even tried it and then I had a complete failed attempt so I'm going to try another attempt tomorrow hopefully it will go better. But I wish you didn't make it look so easy cuz it's not. I really enjoy watching your videos though he do a great job I just wish it was as easy as you make it look :-)

Once you get going, his tips are great. I was in the same boat- taking off tape and reapplying, making big messes, but after you do a few corners and walls you'll get the hang of it. Good luck!

      @nancypowers519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi, I tried not wetting my tape, like Jeff, but after a couple of botched attempts, I broke down and wet mine before applying it. This helped me imbed it into the mud and get a smooth first coat. Maybe when I get better at it, I won't have to wet the tape, but it did help me. Maybe that could help you a little. Good luck!
