When filing in the seam I left in too much mud on first coat and now the seam is higher than the two pieces I am joining. Is there a fix for that?
Did you wet the butt joint and ceiling corner and we just didn’t see it? Thank for your videos - been watching all weekend trying to redo the drywall tape in my 1940’s house. All the old tape is visible 🤦♀️

Lol...I watched what to do...I reviewed it...then went to action. My confidence far exceeded my ability. That said much better than my first attempt to drywall...and worlds better than contractors I'd originally hired to do work. Absolutely the best and most informative video I've found....

@@michaeldrossos8836 I hear ya! Just demoed for a kitchen install and had some time and patches to practice on. Due to the fact it will be covered anyway it took the "first-timer-nerves" out of the equation and managed to turn out better than I thought. Love this guy's thorough and smooth delivery!! I'm renovating a bedroom right along with you and I want to say thanks. The videos are a great help. I did plaster work last in 1973 when my dad and I built the interior walls of this house. Now, in 2019 I have returned home after a zillion termites had their way with some of my interior walls. After tearing them out and rebuilding the stud work and walls (this time with ground contact lumber), replacing the electrical wiring and boxes, and hanging the sheetrock, I'm in the plaster stage. Again thanks for the refresher course. A lot has changed since 1973 (including my back and muscles) and it helps to see how new materials and tools have made the job easier. Keep the videos coming.

For some reason I've always been scared of mud and tape but your videos have help me go off the high dive. I'm very thankful because believe it or not I am actually kind of enjoying it now, thanks to watching your videos and helpful tips. Instead of endless frustration things are actually turning out looking good!
You put together a great video! Easy to listen to your instruction and I think all-around great information for homeowners. As a fellow drywall finisher, I go into many jobs after a homeowner has attempted a DYI gone way wrong. Obviously, we do things differently in the field with tools working for a contractor but this is one of the best dyi instructions I have seen. Great job!

Before doing home projects like this, keep in mind this man and many like him have earned their fine finishing techniques from nothing more than time with the tools. It's not as easy as he makes it look. Well done sir.
I never would have attempted drywall before watching your videos. I've had a 5' x 2' hole in a guest room and garage wall for a few years from rerouting a pipe that was leaking under the slab. The plumbers cut a hole and of course said they don't fix drywall. I've ignored it till now. Thank you for your easy to understand and good techniques videos.

@@Amuris86 I am not sure by what u mean overlap the joints? only thing u need is an offset of ur butt joints, like dont let a butt joint be at same spot on top and bottom.

This is fantastic!! It has helped save a lot of time....especially in regards to butt joints. I wasn’t doing it correct and once I watched these you can instantly see the difference between what I was doing and doing it the right way.

I just followed the corner instructions. Couldn't believe how perfect it came out. The technique is really good. Heaps less stress. Paper adhered so flat and perfect.

I am watching in sequence and just wanted to be sure. Is he putting the tape over the joint compound and then wetting it again with the joint compound or has he moved on to the machine mud to wet the tape?

Remodeled my bathroom first time mudding used your technique, it worked beautifully. Now I'm in the process of remodeling my kitchen alot more drywall and mudding but I'm confident in your technique now as long as I do it right so thanks.
Since pobodys nerfect, how about a segment in this series about "how to fix screw ups" - as in what to do if you DO find bubbles after it dries, or you get delamination, etc etc.
Just use a knife and cut it out. patch with 45 min mud unless over 6 inches long. This won't happen if you follow my advice.
I beg to differ. I never have a single defect in my drywall work.
Dood, it's called a utility knife. You can get them at the box store....
Paper is porous. Adding and removing the mud (after the tape is up) fills the pores. This allows your finish coat to go on without pockets of air behind it.

Me personally I prefer to do my joints 1st, then tape the field of screws, last my angles and corners. Lol. The bottom line is to give that wall a finish!! 4th stage, or a 5th stage.. awesome video man. Thx

Stupid question time. Is it ok to use 45 minute mud for all 3 coats?
sure but you better be amazing at mixing so you don't need to sand much. I would at least use regular compound mixed with a little water for the last coat! Much easier to sand!
Can you wet the paper before applying to the mud?
Absolutely, then you don't have to re-mud like he's doing, all you have to do is use the knife to get it pressed and flat.
You do that so effortlessly !! Like an Artist !! Awesome Job !!

Could not agree more with Tony Mazzeo's comment from a year ago. Reviewed so many drywall videos and found yours to be the best!!! I learned why to stagger drywall sheets (to decrease the visual bump effect) as well as how to apply mud (great tip on wetting the tape!!). You should tape butt joints on the ends of the board first, tape flats between sides, then tape angles last. That way the ends of your tape will be covered and not exposed.

You make it look so easy. I do a little of this about ever 5 years and it takes me 3 times as long as you. Then I have to sand and reapply the mud several times to get it right. When I finally get better at it the job is done and I don't do it again for another several years.

Jeff, I'm a Facilities Maintenance guy at my day job and have a handyman business on the side. Everyonce in awhile I have to do plaster or sheetrock repair or install and dread it every time just because I know how much sanding I'll have to do and deal with all of the dust. I know that I'm using waaaay too much joint compound but feel its better to have too much than not enough. anyway, I stumbled across you on youtube yesterday when researching an up coming soffit project and will need to sheetrock and tape and mud it when finished. I think it depends on if the hangers layed them down or stood them up. Either way you just want to make sure anything going up and down is taped first so it lays flat and hidden under the horizontal tape

Yep - and as usual - part way through, his voice audio level dropped but the background music stayed too high. Minor thing but does seem to be a "thing" for people producing videos. This guy does a great job other wise.
