The mask is a time reference, but may also imply that the perfect folk, or those who think all is right with their existence, wear masks and also have deep darkness rooted in them. I personally grew up in that country-club lifestyle, that stepford suburban perception is so sad. What an empty, miserable life to live instead of being wild and out there with the wolves.
The music video was inspired by a book called Women Who Run with the Wolves and represents the wild side that all women have deep down inside. I also think the video plays on perception and how by day they seem like normal rich country club women, but by night they’re werewolves, which shows nothing is ever as it really seems.
The mask is a reference to a similar one she wore at a book signing during COVID. She said it was lined with plastic but people were still upset. So she's kind of calling back to that drama and owning that decision. Great reaction!
