    Love the part where it says “it didn’t say none of this on indeed” employers do just straight up lie

    • @ledfloyd9035
      @ledfloyd9035 3 ปีที่แล้ว +299

      That's why I don't feel bad at all embellishing my resume. So long as you don't lie about something that could come back to bite you in the ass screw them.

    • @stevenmonsanto5324

      @@ledfloyd9035 You got any examples of what to lie and what not to lie about?

    • @ledfloyd9035
      @ledfloyd9035 3 ปีที่แล้ว +293

      @@stevenmonsanto5324 well don't lie about a skill you don't actually have. For instance, don't say you know how to operate heavy machinery when you actually dont have any experience or knowledge on the subject. Another example would be something like saying you're proficient in excel when you've never opened an excel worksheet in your life. You should be able to use you judgment to consider situations like these when handing in a resume/application.
      Now what you can "embellish" are things like the amount of time you've spent at a previous job. Say you worked at a factory for 8 months, on your resume put a year, so long as it doesn't conflict with other work history. Don't leave gaps in your work history is what I'm getting at. Most employers will ask you why you weren't working for 3 months after you quit a previous job. You can also make you job title sound much fancier than what it was. For instance, you weren't a cashier you were a "customer service representative". When filling out your references, never use friends and family (so they say) but how is a potential employer going to know your main reference was actually your best friend and not your previous manager? So long as you tell him to expect a call from said employer and give you a glowing recommendation. Employers cannot ask previous employers if you were fired and why. That's against the law in the United States and if they do you can sue them.
      Just be creative with it. As I said earlier employers lie to their employees all the time, you don't need to feel bad about making your resume more appealing.

    • @Squintis
      @Squintis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@genocyber4842 sadly, sometimes you don’t have the luxury of time working in warehouses. They only put stuff up for legal reasons, but if you’re being careful to not hurt yourself and not rushing like an animal, the manger gets upset and you’re threatened to let go.
      When you’re leaning over or throwing boxes above you, a belt would definitely be useful. But then you couldn’t move as fast. Just like no one tells you you can’t use the step ladder, but since there aren’t that many and it slows you down moving it, they discourage it. Now I think they don’t even use the stair things, it’s just a box you stand on.

    The crazy part about this is that it's true af. I worked at a target warehouse for about 3 months some months back. Worked 12hr shifts 4 days out the week, 6am-6pm. Got two 30-minute breaks which were really about 20 minutes due to the 5 minute walk to the break room and another wait to even get to the microwave if you brought food. Winters were cold and hot days were brutal due to no heat or AC.
    And don't let them find out you have any experience with any of the vehicles or that you are an efficient worker. Those kind of people get taken advantage of and get stuck doing almost everything if needed. I learned that the hard way. I stayed my 3 months for the sign on bonus and got the fuck up out of there.

    I have a three strikes rule for jobs and I'm out. Aside from that there are few things that I have to know off the rip, number one, if the job says one thing online and when I get there it's something different that's a strike. Number two, I need a set schedule, hourly and daily. It trips me out sometimes how some companies expect you to be in on time but cannot respect that you need to be out on time as well, for instance if I'm scheduled to do 10 hours then that's what I'm doing not 11 not 12 but 10 I got a f****** life to manage to you know, if that's a problem then that's a strike. Number three, I'm not going in any tight crawl spaces or similar. that's automatic I'm out. Number four, the work and the pay has to make sense, in other words, I'm one person making one person's wage, I'm not doing something that in reality would run better with more workers, for instance if I'm flipping burgers I'm not doing the register too when you can get another person to do that separate job, I'm not wearing myself out just so you can save money by squeezing work that requires multiple people. Thats a strike. Number five, disjointed incompetent management with terrible social skills and foresight. that's a strike. Number six, just like the crawl spaces I'm not scaling anything, no scaffolds no harnesses, I'm out.

      Really though. They say the shift is 8 hours or whatever but then slide in the fact that you can't leave until the work is finished for the day. Meanwhile you are intentionally and knowingly understaffed and then everything is critiqued. Then they wanna add more daily tasks when you don't have enough staff to get the current stuff done. Now at the same time overtime is frowned upon because they don't like paying 1.5x. My favorite part is when they want you to train people and do your regular job at the same time.

I wanted a side job while I was about to start working at an elementary school as a paraprofessional. I had told the person who hired me that I was going to attend the Target training but I wasn't sure if the hours would line up with my hours at school. She knew ahead of time that I was hesitant.
    The training was on Halloween at night. It was a 5 and a half hour training. It sucked. When I saw what the extra responsibilities were going to be at Target (and knowing how awful the Holiday season typically is) I told the training manager: "I'm sorry but I'm just not the right person for this job." Same thing delivering mail. During training I was the only person there that's the first red flag. Then they just threw me on a route with super minimal training and I didn't know where to go. I could feel the negative energy of the fellow employees and the main carrier was basically begging me to stay before I even quit because I was her sub so she could have two days off basically. They were upfront about the hours for me to be fair but the first week they were already making me work 6 days in a row 12 hours and basically told me I could show up at any time in the early morning before 6 am. I left halfway through the first day I just didn't know where the hell to go and I had barley delivered like 1 neighborhood. I could just tell long term to it would have a really bad effect on my health to being in the hot truck under intense pressure having to get in and out 1500 times a day. They need to stop treating people like they are expandable. If you want people to stay train them proper and treat them right. I have regrets about leaving but I just felt overwhelmed. Turnover rate is super high any way I probably made the right choice. It has good benefits but you have to work your ass off for years if you want any hope of actually getting them. The pay doesn't really justify the labor either. Might try ups one day because it's guaranteed after 4 years you get top pay at least from what I've read and it's way more then usps.

    It was public’s for me. I’m a dude who’s had long hair all my life, first day on the job manager told me it couldn’t be longer than touching my shoulder. Went home cut it, came back in, a different manager tried to tell me it couldn’t be covering my ears. Needless to say, I wasn’t about to cut 10+ years of hair off so I could stock some shelves 😂 walked out and got a job at winn Dixie that same week.

    I remember many years ago painting a Macy's. We were expected to work twelve how shifts, and occasionally back to back for a total of 24 with no ten minute breaks. Only a 30 minute lunch. They had certain sections of the store closed off but not the areas we were painting and we weren't allowed to tarp off the merchandise to prevent paint splatter getting on anything. They expected us as the employee to pay for any product we damaged. There was $3,000 rugs and God knows the price tag on the mattresses. We were getting payed $13/hr with yearly "bonuses" of $34 around Christmas time. My boss would paint a section of the store and then Macy's management would say it was painted the wrong color only for him to ream us a new one when only he had been in that area all day. It was one of the most ridiculous jobs I'd ever worked. I decided to never go back after the 8 month mark. I don't know how some of the people working for that painting company stayed with them for years. They have way more tolerance to bs than i do evidently.

      Guys in trade jobs are completely unable to accept personal responsibility

      @@Eigenbros your response can come across two ways so I'll respond to both.
      1. Workers are not liable for damaged merchandise or equipment when working a job. It's at fault of the company that hires them. Customers are also not supposed to be in an area where construction is happening as it is a safety risk.
      2. I think you'd find that they're fully capable of accepting personal responsibility. But asking people to paint over un tarped merchandise is just stupid. Paint splatter is often no matter how good you are.
