    This piano sounds like a grand but feels (keyboard mechanism/action) like and upright, right?. This means it has the same limitations that any other upright has? (e.g. not so good key repetition, short pivot lengt, hard to play more advanced pieces, etc) If so, wouldnt be better buy cheaper, non-hybrid piano with an action that imitates the grand action? like Kawai CA-79 with the Grand Feel Action, or the Yamaha 700 series with GrandTouch action? (longer keys, longer pivot lengt, horizontal mechanism, high repetition)

    • @RivertonPianoCompany

      Hi, Global. Thanks for watching. This is another example of how stats don't tell the whole tale. Yes. This is an upright piano action (the N1X, N2 and N3X have grand piano actions), but it still has a far superior feel to a Clavinova or (especially) the CA-79. It also sounds better. You should try one in person. TH-cam just can't show you everything! I hope that helps!

    So this Yamaha NU1X is a hybrid piano. But there is a thing where I get confused. Casio have a hybrid piano at a much cheaper price, if you talk about the gp-310. The gp-510 has the same touch and sound, so I feel confident to compare the Casio gp-310 and the Yamaha NU1X hybrid pianos. What are your thoughts on this? Any response would be appreciated 👍

      Hello, MTT V, and thanks for your question. It's an excellent one, actually. In fact, we're trying to find a tactful way to do a video about this very topic. The problem is this: Casio's "hybrid pianos" aren't actually hybrid pianos. They are just gimmicky digital pianos. Why? ...because they do not include any parts from actual acoustic pianos. The NU1X has the very same wood action as a Yamaha U1 (That is why they called it the NU1... it's the "New U1."). You could take parts from the U1 or the NU1x and interchange them... because the NU1X is half acoustic and half digital. You can't put Casio's little plastic hammers in anything. :) It's a digital piano. It's not a hybrid. ...and before anyone gets too excited about Kawai's "wood soundboard," remember: most speakers are made from wood. The cone in most speakers is some kind of wood (spruce wood in really good speakers, for example)... because wood is an excellent amplifier for sound. Any true player will sit down at a Casio and say it's very nice... but it just doesn't feel like an acoustic piano. That is why Yamaha is very clear about what IS and what is NOT a "hybrid piano." If you're really interested, check out this blog: blog.rivertonpiano.com/2021/07/15/what-are-hybrid-pianos/ Thanks again! I hope that helps clarify all of this! Remember - in the piano business - you get what you pay for. If something is ALOT cheaper than its competition, there is a reason. ;)

      It's not your fault! Sometimes manufacturers use "marketing terms" that mislead people into thinking their products are something they aren't. Which one do you consider the best?

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's a tough decision - no question. The CLP-785 has more digital piano features, but the NU1X performs more like an acoustic piano. I think it comes down to what you want most. If you're looking for lots of sounds and 16-track recording, you'll want to go with the 785. If you want a more robust furniture cabinet and better feel, you'll prefer the NU1X. I hope that helps!

      I realise I'm four months late to the party, but having recently purchased an NU1X I thought I'd chime in on this.
      I went to the piano showroom expecting to buy a CLP 785. My last piano (many years ago) was a CLP, and I arrived at the showroom fully expecting to settle on a 785. When I tried the 785 I was genuinely shocked by how much I disliked the feel. I then played the NU1X, which I'd never even heard of, and fell in love with it immediately.
      So my recommendation to other is not necessarily to buy an NU1X, but to try before you buy and spend some quality time with as many instruments as possible. I love the NU1X and disliked the 785 but you may have the opposite reaction - it's an intensely personal subjective experience, so it's not one which others can decide for you.

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The point of a hybrid is that it includes features from both sides. The NU1X has a full acoustic piano action (not a digital piano action) so it feels EXACTLY like an acoustic piano because it has an acoustic piano action. The sound, however, is digital... so you get a grand piano sound in a much smaller footprint. You never have to tune it... and you get a full furniture cabinet. It has features like headphones, extra sounds, metronome, recording, headphones, and support for Yamaha's Smart Pianist APP. In short, it's the best parts of an acoustic and a digital piano.

    How does this compare against the Kawaii CA 99?

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess that depends on what you're looking for. Unfortunately, Kawai calls the CA-99 a "Hybrid" digital piano... but it is just a digital piano. There is nothing "hybrid" about it (none of the parts inside come from an acoustic instrument). It would be more appropriate to compare it with the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-785. The NU1X is a true hybrid piano - meaning that it incorporates parts from actual acoustic pianos (the Yamaha U1) and digital pianos. It has a FULL wood action inside it - not a digital piano action with "wood keys." They both do alot of the same things... but the point of the NU1X is to give you some digital piano features with an acoustic piano key action. So far, Kawai does not have an upright style piano designed to do that. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We haven't tried to do that, no. If you want a Steinway sound on your piano, we'd recommend a Roland. Why purchase a digital or hybrid piano if you don't like the piano sound? Roland digital pianos base their modeling technology on a Hamburg Steinway concert grand. • @omarino99
      @omarino99 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RivertonPianoCompany Right, mimic is not even the correct word, it literally has the action of an upright. Do you then believe it would make more sense to get a digital piano (from the CLP 700 series for example) if your goal is to play on a keyboard that most resembles a grand? Have you ever assessed whether, for example, with those pianos the note repetition is on par with a quality grand? Thank you

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, that depends. The action isn't identical to an upright's action because the hybrid doesn't have hammers. ...so there are a few minor differences. Mimic is Yamaha's word and it might be *technically* correct here. That said, I would definitely recommend a CLP-785 or an N2 if you're looking for a grand piano experience. Both actions (especially the N2 which is based on the C3X action) have more of a "grand piano" feel. Good point!

    Why not put the best of both worlds in one hybrid piano .I am sure it would be a very simple task to incorporate the sound board of a CLP-785 into a NU1X. Add an increased price and make more profit. As i am sure the mass production of 785 sound boards plus a little retooling for the interface is just minuscule compared to the increased cost for the new "NU1X+785 Hybred Digital Piano"!.

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what you're referring to here, Hilden. The CLP-785 doesn't have a soundboard. It's a digital piano and it generates its tone through traditional speakers and transducers. ...but the CLP-785 is aiming for a grand piano experience. The NU1X is aiming towards an upright piano experience. If you want the ultimate grand piano experience in a hybrid, Yamaha has the N3X - which features the same piano sound samples as the CLP-785. The N3X does use a "soundboard" type transducer as well. That piano already exists. ...but Yamaha builds pianos to fit the market demand... so they will build some pianos that are less expensive (even if they don't have the *very best* sound and touch). They will also build some pianos geared towards digital piano enthusiasts (like the CLP-785). Trust me. There is a good reason all these models exist. They all have their place. Thanks for watching and for your question! Have a wonderful day!

      Hi, Slimer! Thanks for your comment. I understand what he is thinking, but upgrading the NU1X's sounds system costs money... and that's what they have done with the N1X, N2 or N3X. Hello and thanks for the question. You can't really compare the NU1X to the CA79, though. The CA79 is a digital piano and the NU1X is a hybrid piano. The NU1X has a real upright piano action inside of it (as you saw in the video) - the CA79 has a digital piano action. There are no parts in the CA79 that are used in an acoustic piano. It's really not a fair comparison. The CA79 is closer to the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-775. That would be a more reasonable comparison.

    • @RivertonPianoCompany

      That's a tough one. The NU1x doesn't have as many customization options as the CLP-785 so that might be the difference maker. They both use Yamaha's latest CFX and Bosendorfer Imperial samples. The sound should be pretty close... but the way one is "EQ'd" or set might make it sound better to you than the other. It's possible!

      So unless my mind was tricking me, either it was the EQ as you mentioned or there really is some other difference.
      Didn't they say the recorded all the sounds new for the new CLP series? to my knowledge, the new CLP series is newer than the Avantgrand. Couldn't it be that it's a different sample base after all?

      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was afraid that was what you were thinking. Remember - it's not WHERE a component is made that matters. It's the company that makes it. For example, Yamaha builds pianos all over the World - yet they have a global reputation for building high-quality pianos. Because of today's global marketplace, it's not uncommon for a company like Yamaha or Kawai to build core technologies in their top-secret factories in Japan... and then have those components installed into a cabinet in some other country. Most manufacturers do this. ...and, remember, iPhones are built in China! You can get good quality (and bad quality) electronics everywhere. The COUNTRY of origin is nowhere near as important as the COMPANY of origin.
      That said, the NU1X is assembled in China. The core technologies are created in Japan and some of the cabinet components are made in Indonesia. Yamaha has its own factories in all of these areas so they can maintain a very high quality control standard.
      In short, it's a Yamaha - no matter where it's made. You don't have to worry about Yamaha quality and you absolutely should NOT use country of origin as a determining factor when it comes to purchasing a piano. I hope this helps!

    how doe sthis compare to teh Casio Celviano?

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Brian! In our experience, this piano vastly outperforms a Celviano. To qualify as a "hybrid piano," the instrument has to have parts from both an acoustic piano and a digital piano. The Celviano is a digital piano. Nothing more. Yes, they have crafted plastic action parts that look like a piano action, but no actual piano uses those components anywhere. The NU1X uses the ACTUAL ACTION from a Yamaha U1 (with the exception of the hammer and strings). You can't get a more authentic feel than that. Also, the Yamaha and Bosendorfer sounds available on the NU1X are binaural samples - adding incredible realism to the sound. This is technology Casio doesn't have, sadly. There's a pretty big difference between the two. ...but don't take our word for it! Play them both and you'll see right away. Thanks for watching and for your great question!

    Does anyone know if casters can be mounted on it?

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could certainly add casters to the NU1x, but it would raise it up off the ground a few inches... and that may not be ideal. A better idea would be to purchase a dolly for it. That wouldn't raise it off the ground too much (as the appropriate dolly would be designed for the piano to sit down inside the wheel base), but the wheels would be outside the piano's footprint instead of under it. Remember, though, this piano is nowhere near as heavy as a typical upright piano so you probably don't need casters.

    • @peedub
      @peedub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s actually in our electronic music studio here at the university, so I imagine they’ll want the flexibility of moving it around if needed. Would you happen to where the casters can be purchased from? Thanks for the reply.

    • @peedub
      @peedub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or perhaps there a piano dolly that it can be rested on?

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Jansen and Sons offers an adjustable piano dolly that works pretty well. I think the model number is J4004. That is what I'd recommend. Installing casters yourself would just be a custom job with whatever you can find at the local hardware store. ...but - since the NU1X isn't designed to have casters - I doubt they would hold up well over time. I'd just go with the dolly option.

    Really only 13 voices???!!!!

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep. Yamaha Hybrid Pianos are geared towards acoustic authenticity. They are more focused on authentic sound and touch - and less focused on "features" that you can find on Clavinovas. If you're looking for hundreds of voices, you'll want to check out the Clavinova CLP-785.

      Well, Yamaha's mission is to create a piano for every type of buyer. One product may interest you while another product interests someone else. Nothing wrong with that!

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean, Walter. The NU1X is primarily a piano. It has a few extra sounds for the folks who want them, but it is a more piano-focused product (as opposed to the Clavinova line).

    • @RivertonPianoCompany
      @RivertonPianoCompany  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can certainly do that. Yamaha makes some fantastic upright pianos as well! The NU1X is for people who do not want to have to tune their piano, who want a grand piano sound and who can benefit from all the extra features on this piano. It might not be for you and that's ok! ...but lots of folks love them!
