Starting to remove the trees endangering our power lines!

  • We've lost power too many times recently with only moderate wind speeds. Time to change that! Brandon and I are going through and taking down every DEAD tree that is at risk of hitting our power lines, we had a few near misses this time around but overall it went well.

    In my area of the country the power company would have dealt with these. We have to many ice storms so they are really proactive.

    • @JasonWorksAlot
      @JasonWorksAlot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Garfield1 yeah I wish. They’ll fix the lines for free if the trees fall on them but it’s only my neighbor and I on this feed so we’re bottom of the list. Last big snow storm we had I watched a tree come down and take the lines out. Was without power for 3 weeks. Baffles my mind. They’ll forward me to asplundh tree service who they have an agreement with who will come out and cut them down and send me a pretty gauged bill. Also if the wires come down and the trees still there they make me call the tree service to have it removed before they’ll do anything with it. They’re wonderful.

    I've been In a similar situation helping a friend of mine cut a big oak tree in his parent's backyard. We had a couple ropes tied half way up the tree and hooked to a truck to pull it away from the house, well the ropes snapped and the tree fell back the other way and landed between the house and their brand new RV. I don't know how it missed them both but it fell right between them. I am convinced God was looking out for us that day. We were lucky nothing was damaged and nobody got hurt. I'm glad to see everything worked out for you as well. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Hiring a professional is good advice.

    • @JasonWorksAlot
      @JasonWorksAlot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Simpson oh yeah we’ve learned the “buy quality rope” and “check the rope well before each rig” lesson a few years ago. Slightly similar situation as to what you described. Though I agree with hiring a professional being good advice for most. The professionals in this area what anywhere between 8 and 10 thousand a tree in these situations. In no time at all that tree could fall on the house and I could come out cheaper lol

    @Crewsy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just like Clint Eastwood. You give us “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
    Many TH-camrs would claim their GoPro broke and they didn’t get footage when they removed the trees they talked so much about removing.
    I’ve pulled down many trees in the past when working with my Dad. Never planted an anchor to do it though.
    Sometimes even the most experiences arborists/loggers end up with Lady Luck helping them out since not every tree is the same and you can’t see inside. Of course the sawdust and cut speed “talk” to you as well.

    • @JasonWorksAlot
      @JasonWorksAlot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne Crews oh no sir. No shame in my game, I’m the first to tell you I’m a moron. But like you said even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then😊 we only sunk the anchor because we couldn’t find any viable anchor trees to use without going it really deep and were trying to keep the privacy between the two lots as much as possible.

    When you see someone like Buckin' Billy Ray Smith do this, he and his son are constantly stopping and looking up and about them. They all HATE dead trees because they are likely to barber chair on you. That first tree was a good example of a barber chair waiting to happen with the high rope attachment, as it is likely to split from the bottom and the back side of the tree fly out and kill you.
