A few fun facts about Queen: * Guitarist Brian May has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and built his electric guitar (Red Special) when he was 17 (with his dad). * Bassist John Deacon has a degree in electronics. He designed and built the amp that Brian sometimes uses to create unique sounds on Red Special. John was also involved in the band’s financial management. * Drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in biology (pre-med). His vocal range is better than most lead singers of other groups. * Lead singer Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design. It goes without saying that his vocal range was amazing and he was the best front man of any band. * All four have written #1 hits, and all are members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
You should do Queen's Live Aid performance. It was an effort to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia and had a concert in London and Philadelphia, and was broadcast worldwide to an audience of between 1-2 billion. Almost all of the major bands of the day performed, each getting 20 minutes, and Queen absolutely stole the show. Still considered the greatest live performance of all time.
@@chicochi3 Well, she didn't know the two Queen songs she reacted to either and both are getting her a lot of views. I'm guessing a Live Aid reaction would easily top 150,000. (I assume view counts are good for a channel.)
I was lucky enough to be in the crowd for this performance. It still sends chills down my spine 37yrs later, and by far the best concert I've ever been to
I think we need to take a minute to get our head around the fact that this is one guitar accompanied by one of the greatest singers that ever existed who had the ability to have 100,000 people simultaneously eating out of his hand. No screaming or disrespect from the audience, just the pure love and adulation of Freddie's amazing gift. We'll miss him forever.
I love that there are still people out there discovering Queen (and other great artists) because getting to see someone genuinely react to such icons for the first time is a joyful experience. Thanks for sharing with us.
No matter the size of the crowd or country they're in or language that's spoken Queen fans know every word to every song. And Freddie has complete control over them. Been there, done that. Check out the crowd singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" while waiting for Green Day to come on stage. There are many here on TH-cam.
Been there, too. The band feeds off the crowd and the crowd feeds off the band. Guitarist is Dr.Sir Brian May, Bass player is John Deacon, Drummer is Roger Taylor.
This song is about his wife...but she knew he was gay....it's an apology song but more than that...they loved each other...and understood what it was.....buy so lovely, wouldn't it be nice if we could be the same
I grew up with Queen. They were my favorite band and I remember this concert seeing live on MTV. Of course you don't need to know Queen. It's 40 years later now. You are young and certainly grew up with different kind of music. But it is nice to see you explore this great band.
The magic of Queen, and the magic of Freddy. No matter where in the world they played,he had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand in seconds.
This song was written to Mary Austin-the love of his life and best friend. Yay more Queen. At Wembley try Under Pressure, In The Lap of the Gods, It’s A Kind of Magic. Don’t forget Live Aid 1985 where many bands performed but Queen stole the show with 1/4 of the world watching Freddie strut and sing and play with the cameraman.
They are absolutely one of the greatest bands in the world. This is such a gorgeous yet emotional song, so much love and passion. 🎵😢🎤🎼 Freddie Mercury named the band Queen, and designed the band’s amazing logo; Queen Crest.
In “modern-day” context, this song has a whole different meaning: When guitarist Brian May tours nowadays with Queen + Adam Lambert, Brian always performs THIS song himself as a tribute to Freddie. Brian plays/sings the first part of the song himself (w the help of the audience of course)… THEN, a larger-than-life Freddie “walks out onstage” (on a GIANT video screen) and sings the last chorus, leading the audience to sing w him. There’s NEVER a dry eye in the audience, and Brian keeps a kerchief in-hand to wipe his eyes. The most touching rendition I’ve seen on YT is one where Freddie’s mum, Jer Bulsara, was in the audience… and Brian says “Mum, this is for you!”🙏 (The other BEST version to see on YT is from New York City, performed c. 2014-15.) It’s the most BEAUTIFUL tribute to friendship.💕
As you listen to more of Queen, you will realize how many of their songs you've actually heard. "We Will Rock You" And "We Are The Champions" (heard at tons of sports/competition/awards events for the last 30yrs)
Please keep on the Queen trail. The variety of genres, the wonderful lyrics ,the harmonies, and four awesome musicians, the best frontman ever and a voice never to be rivalled. You really must explore more Queen and the live performances are unreal. Freddie even sang duets with an opera singer.
I hear those first chords and I start to cry and I stay that way till long after the last chord has died away. I cannot stop it and I don't even try anymore
Great reaction, thank you! Fun fact>>Guitarist Brian May is now Dr Sir Brian May having been knighted by King Charles 3rd! World’s best guitarist in the best band in the world!
I've been to many concerts of different Musical genre and decades. I don't think most could be a showman like Freddie and the Guy's. I'm betting it emotional high like no other to sing have crowd in tears singing back to you and still having them eating out of the palm of your hand and asking for more.
Two love affairs in this song, one is Freddie's personal one and the other is the British with this man and his band. I do not think the British public loved a musician like they love this perfect man.
This is what makes reaction videos so rewarding. Observing others witnessing and appreciating what we have loved and admired for so long. It almost takes us back to that special time when we first witnessed greatness and fell in love. It's very moving and very special, thank you.
Queen was my all during my teen years!!! (1978 on ) Freddie’s voice, Brian’s brilliant guitar, Roger Taylor’s amazing drum playing and falsetto vocals and John Deacon’s fabulous bass playing was all I needed!! My god!! Some of my favourite songs are the ones you don’t hear unless you play their albums!! Freddie’s voice is like listening to an angel sing!!! I’m so in love with this band!! Brian May has always been a hero of mine as he’s not only an amazing guitar player but also has his PHD in Astrophysics!! He’s a very smart, beautiful man!!!
I was 13 years old. Queen was my absolute favourite band and my dad took me to see this concert. I was on his shoulders from most of the concert. I have seen a great many concerts in my life as I am a music lover, and still to this day this is the best concert I ever attended.
He still sings it - at every Queen+Adam Lambert concert - Brian May - is his name - enters the stage alone with his 12-strings guitar and talks to the audience - and they agree to sing -- - and after the solo Freddie still arrives - now as a hologram and sings the last part - - exactly from this concert - and Brian may drop a tear.
Not heard of Queen!!!!.....and we all together we get to rectify that! (and I am sure many other bands you have never heard of)....great journey together.
Freddie wrote this for Mary. They were together for 7yrs. She just couldn't be in a relationship with him also seeing men. They stayed very close. She was by his side when he past.
I was brought up listening to Queen because of my Dad, I'm now 47 and feel blessed to have seen them live as a child. Britt i envy you because I remember how I felt the first time I was old enough to appreciate how good they were
The guitar player is Brian May and he's excellent and still plays with Queen to this day. Freddie's vocals, Brian's guitar work, and the crowd just make this performance epic! This song was to Freddie Mercury's girlfriend, Mary Austin, when Freddie told her he was bisexual. She left and this was his ballad to her on not leaving him and they remained very close till Freddie's death in 1991. She's the only one who knows where his ashes are and has never told anyone out of respect to Freddie's wishes. He referred to her as his common law wife even though they never married and he said she could never be replaced. She inherited the majority of Freddie's estate once he died including his music royalties and most of his money too. I love your reactions here! You should react to this same song live from Rock In Rio from 1985 because the crowd sings even more which is impressive since English is not the native language there. This is probably Queen's best live performance song because there's three main versions; this one from Wembley, Rock In Rio 85, and Motreal in 81. All three are great and different from one another. Can't wait to see more Queen reactions from you!
Their Wembly concerts were legendary. Everyone always points to Live Aid as the greatest performance.... In my eyes, it was just another Tuesday for them; they knew how to rock stadiums like no other band.
When I heard you said "I love that it wasn't full of..." I had a giggle to myself thinking of your future reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody (possibly the best song ever, where in Britain it's almost a necessity to know word for word by the age of 7) and Don't stop me.
Five years later Freddie died of AIDS. He was living with it during this performance and continued to work till he was too ill to continue. RIP Freddie
I'm sure others told you that the guitarist you asked about is Sir Brian May. He is not only an absolutely amazing guitarist, but an accomplished astrophysicist. He still rocks the hair, albeit gray now.
If you want something from Queen that will break your brain and you'll love every minute of it, try White Queen. It 100% has to be the live performance at the Hammersmith Odeon.
Impromptu is another favorite of mine from this concert. Another awesome thing to see is the Green Day concert before they came on, Bohemian Rhapsody was playing on the intercom and the whole stadium sang along.
Every year Brian May is usually voted one of the Top 5 best guitar players in the world whenever someone holds a Best Guitarist poll (we all know it's subjective, but people love his style).
Like some others, I was also lucky enough to be at the show. I LOVE your reminder about different people's experiences btw. It's very easy, particularly for British people, to wonder how can anyone not have heard of Queen, but your response hits the nail on the head beautifully!
In case you’re wondering, when Freddie shows his bum to the audience it’s a reference to a fallout Queen had in the early ‘70’s with their management company. They were selling records and headlining in Europe & Japan but were broke whist their manager was living quite extravagantly. Freddie wrote a scathing tribute to him (“Death on Two Legs”) which includes the lyric “you can kiss my ass goodbye”. RIP, Freddie.
Brian put his doctorate on hold to be in the band, & so he only more recently completed it, he's also appeard as a guest on scientific shows over in the UK (including the sky at night). Freddie is/was the ultimate showman ,his passion for his craft is why he is still loved as a singer/performer, literally recording until his last few days of his life.
I saw them in concert in the 1980s (twice - it makes my daughter so jealous!) and he let the audience sing part of this song both times. Magical moment.
The guitarist is Sir Doctor Brian Harold May, the Rockstar-Astrophysicist . Besides being a legendary guitarist, he is also a renowned expert in Stereoscopic 3-D Photography and owner of the London Stereoscopic Company, a published author, and combines his 3-D expertise with his abiding interest in astrophysics to collaborate with NASA and The European Space Agency (and other space scientists) to compile 3-D images from data obtained from various space missions. On top of all this, he is a much sought-after public speaker on these subjects, with a special talent for translating highly technical information in a way that we non-scientists find fascinating and engaging. AND he also uses his respected stature across all these “fanbases” to promote animal rights and environmental causes. His charitable trust called Save Me doesn’t just pay lip service to these causes either - Save Me Trust leads the way in programs and initiatives to save England’s hedgehog, badger and fox populations. Brian’s countryside estate also houses the Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue, which takes in injured or otherwise distressed wild animals to be nursed back to health and released back to the wild when possible. Oh, and let’s not forget he sells his own line of guitars (BMG - Brian May Guitars), which are based on the design of his own original Red Special that he built as a teenager with his father’s loving help. Don’t ask me when or if this man ever actually sleeps…lol
no matter when in life you encounter QEEN you'll be blown away. I am born in 82, wish I was a decade older, to have been at a concert. R.I.P Freddy the greatest showman of them all. you live forever in my soul.
I echo the recommendation to do the Live Aid performance as a whole! As you love backstories- here’s a bit: the Live Aid performance came after a period of the band not playing together for years, it also came as Freddie was in the early stages of HIV/AIDS (no real distinction yet in ‘85 AND it was a certain death sentence. It had only begun, and there were not yet any survivors. This understanding, when listening to “The Show Must Go On” and “Who Wants to Live Forever” could make tears spring from solid rock- so be forewarned 😭) The breathtaking talent of these four men together, and their relationship with the crowd- the sheer POWER of it is overwhelming. You need full volume, and allow yourself to just experience it all at once. 💜
One of the standout ballads Queen ever did is “Love of My Life”. Composed by Freddie Mercury and dedicated to his then-girlfriend Mary Austin. Freddie signed a will in September 1991, that gave half of his vast wealth and house to Mary and the rest to his parents and sister. Mary was at Freddie's bedside holding his hand when he passed away at the age of 45. Peace out.
Start to react Queen, they have huge fans, hit after hit, I bet you, amazing band, thank you, great reaction, if you will know Queen, you will love them,
Please react to an early song of their WHITE QUEEN, live at the Hammersmith Odeon...it's like a Shakespearean sonnet ...Freddie's voice is out of this world as well as the instrumentation
The mike with part of the stand came about when they were first started Freddie grabbed the mike and it came apart ,they didn't know how to fix it no roadies then so Freddie just went with. It then became a trademark with live performances
You need to hear the studio version of the song. It is from the 1975 album, A Night At The Opera, and Brian May, the lead guitarist, learned how to play a full stand up harp for it.
The guitarist is Brian May and not only is extremely talented he is a really kind and generous man. I suggest you react to Bohemian rhapsody which in my opinion is the best song ever written and was written by Freddie. It is long but the intensity and emotion is second to none. Not a Queen fan but when I first heard this on the 10th November 1975 I was transfixed and astonished. The DJ Kenny Everett was told not to play it on Capital Radio as it was too long, he ignored this and thanks to him we have a classic that everyone knows about.
Thanks, Britt - loved Brian May since I was 15... a major talent (check out the 12-string guitar), and of course Freddie goes without saying - astonishing.... much appreciated! Hope to hear more from you....

Maybe he will sleep when he gets old.
no matter when in life you encounter QEEN you'll be blown away.
Peace out.
Queen are legendary rest peace Freddie
Start to react Queen, they have huge fans, hit after hit, I bet you, amazing band, thank you, great reaction, if you will know Queen, you will love them,
Not everyone has your exposure…ABSOLUTELY!..my partner reminds me everyday…thank you for also taking me out of my, and only my, experience…❤️
So beautifull, amazing!
I was there too, aged 16, amazing
You need to hear the studio version of the song. It is from the 1975 album, A Night At The Opera, and Brian May, the lead guitarist, learned how to play a full stand up harp for it.
One of my fav's
The Guitarist is Dr. Brian May. Doctor of Astrophysics
