The tune you're mentioning is actually a tune from Pakistan and northern India, they have other type of classical music in south india, totally different raga's and etc. Northern India and especially Indian Punjab have more in common with Pakistan than south India. A. R. Rehman sahab is very much inspired by these typical qawwali theka's and tunes
