      @@goldtiger9453 Nah. He's just saying you can't really mimic a Tyson, a Roy Jones, a Foreman. The "techniques" they used are pretty specific to them. I'm sure others could emulate, but you have to understand these fighters fought specifically to their talents. So if you don't have the same talents, mimicking the style is kinda sub-optimal. unorthodox fighters figure out what their talents are, then build their style around that.

      @@bobross3880 i don't believe thts true , people just don't know how to teach , cusdamoto made multiple champions off the peekaboo style , Lary Holmes mimicked ali's style pretty well. if people could be taught complicated 20 step dance moves why can't they be taught unique fighting styles? Boxing is the one fighting style tht isn't taught like all the other combat arts. I'm from nyc in the well known muay thai, bjj ,karate ,wrestling schools there's alot of talking involved. But in boxing gyms most of the things you learn is taught by sparring. This mentality is limiting the art. in all other combat sports when a unique form of bjj or karate or wrestling is created people preserve it and pass the knowledge down. But in boxing we just let these styles die. The closest thing we have as a boxing style thts taught like a martial art is cuban boxing

    I'm merely an amateur boxer so I'm not invalidating anyone in this video, especially Roy Jones, but I think both of them are right depending on the situation.
    When you are escaping from a boxer who likes to stay low, you will benefit from leaving your hands out. It forces the opponent to throw punches from under, which means that most of them will land on your shoulders. When you are escaping from a boxer who likes to stand tall and is not necessarily barging in on you (and is actually taller than you), you will benefit from guarding instead. Leaving your hands out makes you more vulnerable because he will throw hooks from over. As a matter of fact, Roy himself has utilized both techniques in his fights.

    Growing up RJJ was my fucking idol, had posters, shirts even used his colors in my amateur days. It's a shame we had such different styles, my feet and hands were too heavy to move around like him but during training I'd imitate him in my own clunky way. Almost spent the 10k to watch him fight Tyson but settled for buying the ppv. He's the king.

      He was explaining not to guard if your escaping but to block opponents face by raising hands towards opponent in the 1st minute.

    • @rogue-ish5713
      @rogue-ish5713 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, He is talking about having your arms out to help with deflecting and instigating the punch. Leaving your arms in high guards makes it too slow to punch. You can do a High guard if you are against the ropes but evade and gain your footing and your stance again. Then he went into combinations and hitting fast, using your mind to out box your opponent. This forces your opponent to be pressured to get the next round back. Then he referred to a fight where he saw that play out and lost both rounds because of the pressure created from being faster and moving off center.
      But if you don't the codes and language, I can see where you can get lost.

    Hard to hear. It looks like he's discussing guard forms. My guess is with the hands close like peek a boo style you can't manipulate the opponents swing you can only evade. With a loose but high guard the lead hand can stifle punches. I watched Gaethje straight up put his hand on a guy's shoulder (poirier I think) recently to stifle the punch.

    I like Roy but he had a lot of athleticism on his side when tht left he start getting kod I’m still a big fan tho but I’m more of a James toney , Errol Spence, shakur , or mayweather fan just pure boxing fundamentals at a high degree tight defense accuracy and used feet , waist movement and hands/arms as defense Roy jones was a beast tho but once athleticism was gone he start going out bad As for James toney he was always out of shape nvr been stopped n still hand food defense besides being prideful n not being scared to take punches I feel like thts why his speech is slurred but he had a lot of potential to go further if he woulda trained like let’s say mayweather, he already had skill except he only sparred no road work or nothing else
