I found this video when I was a kid who liked fish and now I’m a college biology student and it’s still just as beautiful and relaxing as it was back then.
Yes terrific video Jack, thanks! Your right Bob, the bloomin naturalists largely can't be bothered to show the majesty of the under water world, not of our native waters anyway. I love our fish species, their appearance is so soft and understated, unlike a lot of the gaudy exotic species from elsewhere. Nice accompanying music too :-)
Outstanding, the time and effort you must have put in to create this masterpiece is a credit to your dedication. Many thanks for sharing this fascinating "sub surface" world that few of us have ever witnessed, and in such quality given your chosen environment. Pure magic. Phil.
Excellent video, it is so unusual to get film of our fish. Most seem to concentrate on ground animals and birds, can't say I've ever seen a programme about our native fish other than Salmon.
This is so well shot and so helpful, thank you! how did you get such steady shots?! Did you use a weighted tripod? And if so then how did you manage to focus without being in the water...? So many questions! Well done and thanks! I have a lot to learn!
Fantastic! Please do NOT hesitate to upload LONGER videos of Freshwater Life Aquatic. Right now I am watching yours, muted, with Pink Floyd's "ECHOES" in another window.
+dorothy gruendler it also syncs up pretty well with "Forty Species of British Freshwater Fish Gathered Together Underwater and Grooving with Jack Perks", on side 3 of Ummagumma
Excellent video again, I've actually caught bullhead on the river Nidd in North Yorkshire. The water clarity is top notch, what part of the country is the best for clear stretches of the trent?
Lovely video ! I don't think there are many with so many species. You could try placing the video with the Science Photo Library in London, you might get some £££ !
That sucks :/ they are beautiful fish! I have another question. Where did you find those tiny european whitefish? In the sea or in a lake? I have been searching for small ones for my aquarium with no results.
Wonderful to see so many different species in their own element. Have you tried to find a burbot? I guess that you would have to go to a Lota lota trouble for that one!
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I just couldn't resist the "Lota lota" (ichthyology) joke! They are probably extinct in Britain (though not officially), but rumours still exist about the Yorkshre Derwent holding a small population. A live burbot hasn't been seen since the 1960's, but there are miles of the Derwent that hardly ever see an angler, so who knows? It is impossible to prove a negative, so I like to think that they could still be hanging on somewhere.
do the pumpkinseed fish get big in the uk? Do they eat the eggs of any of your native fish? In the US they like to feed on black bass(largemouth and smallmouth) eggs so the male bass will spend 24/7 guarding the bed from bluegill and pumpkinseeds and a lot of male bass end up dying
how do i tell the difference between roach, rudd and to an extent chub? ??? any silvery darty fish with orange fin tips looks the same to me sometimes i can tell its a chub from the size but its very hard.
rudd have a up turned mouth and more golden colour to them, roach have a down turned mouth and silver colour while chub are larger as you say and a big mouth with a bronze colour and big scales.
Ironically, the greatest aspect of many things not just in fishing, but in life, is the possible unattainabiity aspect, but now, with the high-technology tools, the underwater cameras, actually seeing the fish there, must take away the anticipation and even the joy of catching a fish. Just throw you line down here and pull them up. Isn't there something missing here?
We have some in the Grand Union Canal where I live, people have let them go (Probably unwanted pets). I even caught a small American Catfish in there some years ago whilst fishing on the bottom for Bream!

I don't know how I ended up here, but I'm so glad I did, beautiful video!!
Arrived at the site accidentally and so glad I did. Subscribed in anticipation of more great video.
I could watch this all day. So beautiful!
I cried while watching. Thank you for the beauty

6:30 looks like this crucian was once used as live bait and managed to survive
Good spot!!
Saw that but couldn't think why! I though spear gun but dismissed it. You may be right?
Is there anywhere up north to catch freshwater Mullet?
Wonderful! Nature never fails to amaze us. Thanks for sharing your wonderful footage
Feel free to share it! thanks took over a year to complete
Just watched 3 of your fish videos and they're really lovely. Thank you.
Nice video, came here via a search for Gudgeon. Quite a few invasive species in the film including the Bitterling and Pumpkinseed.

Awsome chanel. Subbed ✌️
i caught a pumpkinseed about 30 years ago in the thames in Surbiton
thank you for this productive video to help me with my homework. Have a nice day 😊
Excellent video, it is so unusual to get film of our fish. Most seem to concentrate on ground animals and birds, can't say I've ever seen a programme about our native fish other than Salmon.
Yeah its a shame fish aren't shown on TV more
If not general public, then fishkeepers should be more interested, but they don't seem to be... People are strange.
I’m a late comer to this video obviously. Fantastic work.
Epic footage nice video
Super video - many thanks!
Very well filmed.
Some lovely shots and real monsters of the deep.
Enjoyed very much.. Thanks for posting :-)
Great effort to do this ........ well done!

Ha!
Absolutely brilliant
Great video Jack, thanks. Do you just use a snorkel when you go filming?
So beautiful
cool video lol the soundtrack suits the video :)
Excellent video again, I've actually caught bullhead on the river Nidd in North Yorkshire.
The water clarity is top notch, what part of the country is the best for clear stretches of the trent?
What small fish would you recommend for a small pond
wonderful to see…!!
Nice shot.
Insanely good.
Is it possible to catch a flounder far upstream?
That a lot more species than most would think.
The can at @3:18 :( but beautiful video enjoyed this in 2020 (:
stunning video really enjoyed the lamprey i didn't realise they were native species
Lovely video ! I don't think there are many with so many species. You could try placing the video with the Science Photo Library in London, you might get some £££ !
Very informative
good job. keep it up.
Do you have burbot (Lota lota) in Britain? They are very common here in Sweden.
Awesome video btw!
They were present in the UK until the the 70's now believed to be extinct here because of pollution and warming waters.
That sucks :/ they are beautiful fish!
I have another question. Where did you find those tiny european whitefish? In the sea or in a lake? I have been searching for small ones for my aquarium with no results.

Nice!
I stand corrected! I wonder why only in that river? Thank you for the info, and the great video.

lukkyluciano me dont have pupkinseed
yes the uk has pumpkinseeds. Proof at 4:28 of this video
they are only present in a couple o commercial lakes and 1 canal i believe.
large parts of this video are filmed in tanks
they are in sussex
What about sturgeon?
None in Britain anymore, sadly.
Bit funny mate i caught many over the years, last being last week🤣
They went extinct in the UK but can possibly be reintroduced at some point
where did you film the pumpkinseed?
great vid but I never knew in uk we have pumpkinseed or bull head
small numbers in the south east
how do i tell the difference between roach, rudd and to an extent chub? ???
any silvery darty fish with orange fin tips looks the same to me

Anybody know what fish is at 1:32 the one looking at the camera
golden tench
Jack Perks Wildlife Media thanks
Looks like a koi.
No Tench, just a released Koi, a Tench has smaller barbs at the corners of the mouth.
3:03 bottom right... is that a freshwater hermit crab?
Its a caddisfly larvea
You missed the can of Stella
4:06 those are also Gudgeons
Invasive french stella fish 6:09
Is the zander a British fish ?
introduced but is widespread in britain.
Jack Perks Wildlife Media so its not a British fish, its a invasive fish just as I thought.great video thought
thats right though I've included fish people might encounter in Britain (as it says in description)
Very nice film. But rainbow trout are not native to British waters. They don't reproduce in the wild. They do in the US.
not native but present in many uk rivers and do breed in the derbyshire wye, look it up
Shame to have seen a Stella can around 3:20
we dont have grass carp do we
we do

Goldfish????? Give me a break ,they would arrest you here for putting them in or using as bait
We have some in the Grand Union Canal where I live, people have let them go (Probably unwanted pets). I even caught a small American Catfish in there some years ago whilst fishing on the bottom for Bream!
4:23
And you would thumb's-down why?
Liked your videos, but almost a third were invasive species.but keep it up .
Ey mate do you maybe have a list of all dutch species?
I don't haven't got the european fish yet
pumpkinseed in uk? really?
Populations in sussex and hampshire
I swear pumpkinseed are American ?
yes a introduced species to britain
7.40 Oh no
8:39 *sculpin
In britain they are called bullheads or sometimes millers thumbs
