    Oh I am reallly excited about this next series of exploring these villages!!! Love when you take us for walks through these charming little towns! Findon looked like a very lovely village w/ some wonderful old buildings in it. Hope someone from there takes you up on showing you around as I would love to see more!!!

    What a lovely walk. Findon benefits from its own unique architectural feature: that of the round or oval window, made in the style of a wooden wagon wheel. It's even incorporated in to some newer builds too.
    I remember when the A24 was dualled in the mid 60s. Some of the traffic was diverted back through the village as the roadworks progressed.

      @@RichardVobes it was a bit slow, even back in the day when not every household owned a car. Dial Post was always worse!

    The Findon Manor Hotel sell delicious home cooked fish and chips + delicious Sussex beers. We always enjoy visiting the annual Findon Sheep Fair. The old church is utterly stunning and situated along a beautiful tree lined lane...well worth a visit! The church is normally open to the general public 👍

      We got kicked out of the church yard when filming another video there. :)

    Hi - have enjoyed seeing this, as just following Paternal Ancestral line for Findon (Elliott and Washer) families 1640 to 1704. So thanks both for all the info, and interesting to see and hear of trees planted during their time, Cheers, Kay

    I’ve only been to Findon once, and that was for a wake at Findon Manor - it’s a lovely village and surprisingly quiet! I loved all the flint walls there. Looks like it’s a thriving place.

      Funnily enough - there was a wake on that day too! :)

    Interesting one Richard and the village does have some lovely buildings. The shop has, in the last few years, been run by the community as it was threatened with closure. The village had two ponds, the second was in the south of the village, Black Horse pond, now under the A24. Just a couple of bits of interest maybe. Be good to have someone from the village to give you a 'tour'

    • @RichardVobes
      @RichardVobes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Linda, yes, I am always up for a proper tour of the villages. We can only give a brief look. Interesting about the two ponds though.

    Apparently Aldaniti had just recovered from a career threatening injury and his jockey Bob was recovering from cancer when they won the prestigious race in 1981. Also, two years later a film was made of he events called Champions... I will have to find this!

    Great video, Findon looks like a nice village. It's a shane the pond has been grassed over, when a village has a pond that's when you know its a very old traditional village! Well done you 2 👍

    My great uncle Eric lived in Findon many years ago, he always said how much he enjoyed living there. Later on the parents of a previous girlfriend moved to Findon Valley just along the road. One night we entered the quiz in the Black Horse and had the pride of coming in last place by quite some points- too much lager I think....

    I remember years ago we used to go out for Sunday drives with my parents (people used to actually enjoy driving!),and i recall being told there was a Luftwaffe pilot buried in the graveyard in Findon and it was at the other end of the graveyard to the rest.
    Don't know if this was my Dad pulling my leg,but would be interesting if true.
    Also would be interested to know what the building is about half way between Findon and Clapham on Long Furlong,looks like a toll house,but i didn't think it was a turnpike

    • @RichardVobes
      @RichardVobes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes - I always thought it was a turnpike, but an odd place to put it half-way down the road.
