this was a lot of fun!! I might have to do one myself! Can't wait to see your Top non-prog albums :D Also, been loving that I Am The Manic Whale album!!
My number one progressive rock album has been the same one since it was released in 1970. McDonald and Giles. Still my favourite listen 53 years later.
Just had a first listen to the whole Mcdonald & Giles album....Thanks!!! My ears also picked up something around the 32 minute point. Maybe Steve Hackett meant it as a tribute but at the 6 minute point of Shadow of a Hierophant it sure plays out the same. Fascinating.
My top 15 favorites: 15. MINSTREL IN THE GALLERY by Jethro Tull 14. TARKUS by ELP 13. VISIONS by HAKEN 12. POINT OF KNOW RETURN by Kansas 11. FAREWELL TO KINGS by Rush 10. WISH YOU WERE HERE by Pink Floyd 9. NURSERY CRIME by Genesis 8. RELAYER by Yes 7. MOVING PICTURES by Rush 6. ANIMALS by Pink Floyd 5. SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND by Genesis 4. BRAIN SALAD SURGERY by ELP 3. THICK AS A BRICK by Jethro Tull 2. CLOSE TO THE EDGE by Yes 1. DARK SIDE OF THE MOON by Pink Floyd Excellent show Scot !!!!
Thanks for sharing. You have some great albums on your list especially Styx! Love them. My favorite album of all time is Aja by Steely Dan! Every song is amazing!
THANK YOU! I didn't know anything about Wobbler. Now it's my favourite neoprog (is that a word?) band. This is what the Internet is all about, Discovery. Expanding your world. Again, a big Thank You!
Thick As A Brick, 2112, and Close To The Edge are my 3 favorites. And Thank you Scott for turning me on to Wobbler and Karfagen. Both are just absolutely stunning bands.
Those first two Psychedelic Furs albums. Incredible. Steve Lillywhite’s production. Oh my!!! And good old Todd did okay on the third. (God, I’m hoping you’re a fan otherwise none of this means squat…) And yeah, definitely give Transatlantic a bit if your time. Beyond great.
What a great top 15 this list really is. Some of the greatest ever prog albums are included and it’s just amazing list. Well done. Super entertaining. Just the best. Dave
Thank you Scot! It was me who was looking for your Greatest albums video and here it is! '72-'77 were the greatest years for prog, I was born in '86, so wasn't alive yet, but I can fully appreciate the power of that era. Colorful picks, keep rocking man! Big fan of yours!
Thankyou for sharing your favorites for no matter what anyone might say they are YOUR favourites. I have discovered prog only in the last 2 years but can mention "Hand Cannot Erase", "A Tab In The Ocean", & "Wish You Were Here" are in my top 15. Blessings.
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Supertramp - Crime of the Century Chicago VII Genesis - Selling England By The Pound Nino Ferrer - Blanat Carol of Harvest
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway ! Whenever I put that album on I think, "I'll just listen to a few tracks"....and I end up having to listen to whole thing !
I abso love your enthusiasm mate. I'm not that into prog rock and the first time I heard the song "Thick as a Brick" I heard "...to be as pink as a pig." It works! 😉 Stay happy mate
Wow dude, I’m absolutely elated you went with “ Olias “ as one of your selections. For me it’s very much like a lost Yes album. It’s very inspirational and a true gem in the rough. And “ Larks “ is another great choice as well as “ The Lamb. “ I’ll always make an argument that it’s Genesis best. Great list !!
And side 3 is pure genius - Lilywhite is an amazing opener. Anyway The Lamia. Anesthetist. Silent sorrow (could be part of Banks solo album "A curios feeling"). Part 2 of waiting room. If you can, get ahold of the demos from the recording sessions / rehearsals of the Lamb... ear openers for sure
Hey Scot great list man! I love it your fave Yes, Tull, and Floyd are same as mine! Same with Rush, I know Moving Pictures gets all the attention but as a day one Rush fan Farewell To Kings is my #1 fave. So many say side 1 of MP is a "perfect side" but not to me, that honor goes to AFTK, title track then Xanadu is as good as it gets! Cheers!
Great list !! I've never actually sat down and thought about favorites cause I have a whole lot of favorite albums, but off the top of my head I've always loved Pink Floyd's " The Wall" and anything by Black Sabbath !! 🤘
What a GREAT list, Scot. I love that it's a mix of more mainstream prog (e.g., Grand Illusion - a true masterpiece in 8 songs; Kansas s/t - "Journey From Mariabronn" is sublime...one of their most brilliant compositions; and Rush - AFTK which is their best for sure! "Xanadu" = listen, be amazed, repeat...), classic/quintessential prog (Genesis - pick anything from NC to WAW; and Yes - Tales grows on me everytime I listen to it!); and more "aggressive" prog (Larks Tongues in Aspic and Octupus). I wish I could fall in love with that latter category as much as have (including Happy The Man). Someday, maybe! I do keep trying. I just can't get around it sounding discordant.
@@TheProgCorner I just have such respect for how you truly love it all - from something like "Fooling Yourself" which I would consider at the "beginner's" end, to "The Colony of Slippermen" which seems to require a bit more prog "maturity", if you will, to the stuff on Larks Tongue.
My top 10 prog albums, in no particular order, no repeat bands: Yes - Close to the Edge Magma - K.A. Banco - Io Sono Nato Libero Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down Univers Zero - Heresie King Crimson - Larks' Tongues PFM - Per Un Amico Gentle Giant - In a Glass House Anglagard - Hybris Thinking Plague - In Extremis In actuality, there are dozens more albums I rate just as highly as these. So, if I were to make this list in a week, some of the choices would probably be different.
I love Cake!!! I need all their albums on vinyl (I only have two so far - the rest on CD.) They are even better live. Seen them twice and yeah: amazing.
Your list is STRONG. I was mildly surprised that you didn't include Crime of the Century. I know you hold it in high regard. 15 Pink Floyd Atom Heart Mother 14 Kansas Point of Know Return 13 Harmonium Le Cinq Saisons........ 12 Rush 2112 11 King Crimson Lizard 10 Camel Moonmadness 9 Rush A Farewell to Kings 8 Chris Squire Fish Out of Water 7 Fred Frith Gravity 6 Gentle Giant In a Glass House 5 Styx The Grand Illusion 4 Yes Fragile 3 Pink Floyd Animals 2 Caravan In the Land of Grey and Pink 1 King Crimson Lark's Tongues in Aspic Looking forward to next video. Probably half of my top 10 are XTC albums, so it will be tricky. Gratitude
@@TheProgCorner No doubt since starting the channel my music knowledge has greatly expanded. So it would be an interesting list to try and come up with.
OK, this is weird. I watched your video this morning and later went out to the thrift shop and there among the beat up copies of assorted polka music, and various other stuff was your #1 pick. The condition of the vinyl was NM and the cover was a VG for 3 bucks. What are the odds? I'm familiar with "Yes" but I've never heard this album. So, thanks to you I'm going to invite a few friends over, drop the needle on it and make it a "Yes" party.
So many great albums on your list! I admire you for admitting you like Styx since they are one of those bands many people love to make fun of or hate on. I still like Sail Away and Fooling Yourself. The latter has that ELP synth thing going on. I also really like 2 of the albums in back of you in the video - Bowie and Cake. Both great albums. Cake still makes me laugh and yet their musicianship is legit.
@@TheProgCorner that would be awesome. Captain Beyond was an excellent band, I like all 3 albums, Dancing madly backwards, Sufficiently Breathless and Dawn Explosion.
Happy to see Tales in number one !!! And I still do not understand why Rick Wakeman hated this album, which lead to his departure. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise because Patrick Moraz gave Relayer a unique flavor.
Great list, Scot. And it's good to see other peoples choices. So varied. That's the best thing about music lovers. Well here's the 10 I'm taking into my next life. So please cut me some slack on my non-prog choices. Again, this is my eternity 10. 1. Close To The Edge 2. Seconds Out 3.This Is The Moody Blues 4. Thick As A Brick 5. Quadrophenia 6. Moving Pictures 7. Abbey Road 8. Tales From Topographic Oceans 9. The Wall or Animals (coin toss) 10. Beethoven 'Emperor Concerto'
Great choices! Love those Wilson Gentle Giant remasters. Not going to list my top 10 as would contain mostly same artists as you but not same albums.... but top 5 prog for me would include the phenomenal Pale Communion by Opeth....and Moonmadness by Camel 🖤🖤 God save the king😂🇬🇧 i still think queen in my head lol....
Great list! Right now, my top 15 are: 1. CTTE- Yes 2. TFTO- Yes 3. GFTO- Yes 4. Relayer- Yes 5. Olias- Jon Anderson 6. Happy the Man self titled debut 7. Crafty Hands- HTM 8. Hergest Ridge- Mike Oldfield 9. Ommadawn- Mike Oldfield 10. Hosianna Mantra- Popol Vuh 11. Bruder Des Schattens... - Popol Vuh 12. Frances the Mute- Mars Volta 13. Zarathustra- Museo Rosenbach 14. Per Un Amico- PFM 15. Ardour- Ethos
Genesis - Foxtrot Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon Queen - Queen 2 Radiohead - The Bends Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left Elliott Smith - Figure 8 ELO - A New World Record Beatles - Abbey Road Elton John - Goodbye Yellowbrick Road David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust Honorable mentions Neil Young - Harvest Peter Gabriel - III Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Blondie - Parallell Lines The Jayhawks - Smile King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
My favorite albums by ten of these bands: Utopia: Oops! Wrong Planet Jon Anderson: Olias Of Sunhillo Rush: Permanent Waves Kansas: Point Of Know Return Gentle Giant: s/t Pink Floyd: Animals King Crimson: In the Court Of… ELP: Tarkus Genesis: Selling England By the £ Yes: Tormato That’s right, I said Tormato! Fans I’ve spoken to hated the one tune or another that ruined the whole album, as did the production. The sound may have suffered but I love what it did for Squire’s bass tone! 3 of those tunes make it a worthwhile listen from start to finish for me. I DO love Tales! Side 2 (The Remembering) is my favorite album side in terms of context and continuity. Styx and Jethro Tull are impossible for me to pick favorites. With Styx, I can only rule out Kilroy Was Here. I don’t think it was a bad album, just not as interesting. Personally, I think we have our standout favorites by Yes, ELP and Rush (for example) because clearly they set their standards so high early on that we, as fans, felt they fell so short on later albums that it seemed obvious. I’m sure a lot of that had to do with the ever-changing recording industry, MTV and the way other media outlets covered artists (old and new). I enjoy prog like any music lover of our generation but I’m definitely more of a Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Wonder guy. I’m also all about Jeff Beck, Tommy Bolin/Zappa/Trower…and no, it’s not just a guitar thing. You can spin me some Miles, Coltrane, Herbie, Buddy Rich, blues, flamenco, Bossa Nova or chamber music anytime (you get the point)! I’ve been to your non-prog album video, in which I dropped a comment and you ALWAYS reply (thank you). Don’t know if you have any videos addressing any of the names directly above but I’ll search your channel to see what I can find, Scott (or is it “Scot”?)
Yeah, it’s Scot!!! But yeah, I’ve had the channel for about 18 months so definitely scroll through the videos I’ve posted so far!!! I’m sure there’s something there… 👍👍❤️❤️👍👍❤️❤️
Thanks, fun list. agree with your picks for best albums from gg, elp, crimson, and yes. i go back and forth with genesis, lean foxtrot. surprised by animals pick. i would go meddle or dark side. surprised no italian in your top 15. a pfm album would be in there for me. plus locanda delle fate and passio secundum mattheum. the other thing is you restricted these to one per band, so is it really your 15 favorites, e.g., how many of these do you really prefer over ctte or relayer?
1.Gnidrolog Lady Lake 2.KC ITCOTCK 3.BJH Everyone is Everybody Else 4.Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn 5.TD Encore 6.UK Danger Money 7.The Strawbs Just A Collection 8.Rush A Farrewel... 9.Budgie Squawk 10.JT Heavy Horses
Somehow, I just saw this video today, July 23, 2024. We must have been separated at birth. I don't actually know anything from 7 down on your ranking (except for Olias, and I'd put Fish Out of Water higher, personally, regarding Yes solo albums), but our top 6 are pretty similar. ESPECIALLY --- Tales. I've been proselytizing about Tales for decades -- to me, it is basically classical music in the rock idiom, and easily the most brilliant thing that any "rock" band ever recorded. Funny you mention that your favourite 90 seconds of music is the tail end of TAAB. Mine is probably the end of Close to the Edge (although it may be the end of Starless, when John Wetton practically pulls the strings off of his bass over that insane mellotron swell). However, I definitely have a favourite minute or two of Jethro Tull -- it is that part of Baker Street Muse that begins with "Walking down the gutter thinking 'How the hell am I today?' Well, I didn't really ask you, but, thanks all the same" and then provides a showcase for the absolute genius of Martin Barre, probably the most underrated guitarist in rock history.
I agree with most of your choices, and I'm glad that somebody else loves Yes's Tales From Topographic Oceans. Easily one of the most ambitious albums in prog, even if it isn't quite their best in my opinion (I still prefer Fragile, Close To The Edge, and The Yes Album, the triangle of Yes at their best)
@@TheProgCorner Going For The One is also pretty good. Can't say the same for Tormato. The albums before The Yes Album were also good, but not quite as consistent.
Great albums you chose there Scot brother 👍. Of course YES should always be #1. Kansas Styx and wobbler amazing albums. Hope your feeling better. Peace ✌️
Not too many Prog albums here but: Ok computer (Radiohead) Disintegration (the cure) Queen is Dead (the smiths) Songs for the deaf (QOTSA) In Absentia (porcupine tree) Discipline (king crimson) Hellfire (black midi)
@@miked4309 they’re actually post-punk/prog. If you’re a fan of king crimson I have a feeling you might like them. Hellfire is their best album, so you should start there!
Hamburger Concerto - Focus Overnite Sensation - Zappa You - Gong Solar Fire - Manfred Mann's Earth Band UK Trick of the Tail - Genesis Aqualung - Jethro Tull Tarkus - ELP DSOTM - Floyd ITCOTCK - Crimson It hurt to leave out Close to the Edge, 801 Live, Crime of the Century and Utopia's Ra. Come to think of it, it hurt to leave out about 50 albums, including some on the video list.
Good choices - love your channel - many albums in common with me. CTTE would be my number 1, and SEBTP instead of LLDOB. But that's life - free to choose what we like. Much respect!
1 Yes Close to the Edge 2 IQ - Road of Bones 3 Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here 4 King Crimson - Larks Tongues in Aspic 5 Genesis - Duke 6 Marillion - Misplaced Childhood 7 Spock's Beard - The Light 8 Rush - Hemispheres 9 The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 10 Styx - The Grand Illusion 11 Saga - Worlds Apart 12 Pallas - The Sentinel 13 Twelfth Night - Live & Let Live 14 Dream Theater - Metropolis II 15 Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Genesis: The Lamb..., ! Yes: Tales...! Super!! My favorite albums: Tangerine Dream: Phaedra (1974), Edgar Froese: Macula Transfer (1976), Carole King: Tapestry (1971), Klaus Schulze: Picture Music (1975), Jean Michel Jarre: Equinoxe (1978).
Great one. I decided to make only a list of albums that I really liked but not the obvious choices so if you don't know them you could give it a try: - RPWL - Beyond Man And Time - King Crimson - The power to believe - Sky Architect - Excavations of the Mind - Mike Oldfield - Amarok - HFMC - HFMC - Mystery - Lies and Butterflies - Melanie Mau & Martin Schnella - The Oblivion Tales - Kayak - Close to the Fire For Kayak, there might be better albums, but somehow their comeback album did something for me. KC is of cause a known band but I also relly like their last one (also the rest is OK though). I didn't mention Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, and Genesis, but sure like these as well (and JT). Maybe in the near future I will also include some IQ or Arena but I'm just starting to discover them. Saw IQ live recently and will see Arena next year.
I think you are on to something…maybe all this ranking is just messing with the true meaning of engagement with a piece of music…who am I kidding? I RANK EVERYTHING!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I don’t have a super extensive vinyl collection having sold most of my teen collection when I was in my 30s and was in my Christian music phase. I’ve been trying to recreate my collection of 70s rock and prog in the last 10 years or so. Here’s my list of favorite prog albums that I find myself playing over and over, that I do own, no repeat bands. Lots of agreements with Scot. Genesis/Foxtrot is my #1 all time favorite album that gets so much play, not just for SR, but I love Can Utility and the Coastliners, an underrated gem. #2 ELP/Tarkus, I have BSS too, and play it a lot, but Tarkus is my go to. #3 Yes/ Fragile because it was my first one❤️ #4 Kansas/ Debut Album #5 Rush/Moving Pictures #6 Jethro Tull/Thick as a Brick #7 Frank Zappa/Zoot Allures (I’m still looking for Apostrophe, but Black Napkins is the bomb) #8 Steve Hackett/Voyage of the Acolyte #9 Pink Floyd/Wish You Were Here #10 Peter Gabriel/First Solo Album (Car-is this prog? I’m going to include it. I’ve exhausted my bands that I really play a lot). All of these bands, I have multiple favorite albums, so it’s really hard to choose. Of course CTTE is a favorite ❤️ I have a lot of classic rock as well.
That Kansas debut!!!! Oh yeah!!! Even though I am a Christian I don’t listen to any Christian music - except for Neal Morse, of course!!! And Christmas music!!!!
Kansas: Song For America Supertramp: Crime Of the Century Kerry Livgren: Seeds Of Change Genesis: Selling England By The Pound Gentle Giant: The Power And The Glory Camel: Mirage Yes: Fragile Styx: The Grand Illusion( I actually prefer Paradise Theater, but not much prog on that) Rush: Permanent Waves Pink Floyd: Meddle King Crimson: Larks Tongues In Aspic Jethro Tull: Songs From The Wood(just edging out Benefit) A prog album by a non-prog artist: Dire Straits--Love Over Gold Top two are top two, the rest are tied in order of importance...too much good stuff to mention
You got a couple of mine in Permanent Waves and The Power and the Glory and 2 of my 2nd placers per band with Meddle and Larks Tongues (unfortunately I haven't been deep into Crimson for too long, they don't make my top 15) and Benefit is also my #2 for Tull (however TaaB is the Tull GOAT for me)
Hi Scott. Watched a few of your videos. Enjoy them. I was not going to comment until ANIMALS was in your pic. I have been playing it a lot recently. Reckon it’s my Floyd fav. I was a huge ELP fan. P,aged them constantly I reckon lol. Yes, Rush , Genesis. All the classics I reckon. Not a Tull fan at all. Just do t like them. Styx great band. The lamb lies down brilliant album. The cage bloody great. Tales . Wow total madness lyrically but Jon Anderson choice of words he liked and just placed them together a lot was still great. Getting over overhanging trees let them take the Forrest. Wtf but why not. Reckon I knew every mad mental word . Peace out , rock on everyone. 🤘🥃🏴
My personal 12 favorite prog albums: 1. YES Close To The Edge 2. JON ANDERSON Olias Of Sunhillow 3. GENESIS The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 4. PINK FLOYD Animals 5. AMBROSIA Somewhere I've Never Traveled 6. U.K. Danger Money 7. JETHRO TULL A Passion Play 8. ELP Brain Salad Surgery 9. KING CRIMSON In The Court Of The Crimson King 10. RUSH Grace Under Pressure 11. FM Black Noise 12. MIKE OLDFIELD Crises
You're a lot like those classic prog fans. Like ME. In my list I would have chosen other records by the same artists (nearly) but your list is quite interesting in some points. I'm going to do some auto research and I'll post mine in a matter of minutes (or hours)
@@TheProgCorner I've got it! But it's SOOOOOOO difficult. This 15 are my "return to" records (with secondary options). Of coure, not in order. That will came later, if I can. Ambrosia - Somewhere I never travelled It bites - Once around the world Yes - Close to the edge / Tales ELP - Brain Salad Surgery / Pictures Genesis - The Lamb lies down on Broadway / Selling Pink Floyd - Wish you were here / Animals Camel - Harbour of tears / Moonmadness King Crimson - Red / Islands Marillion - Misplaced Childhood / Marbles Mike Rutherford - Smallcreep's day Anthony Phillips - Wise after the event / The geese and the ghost UK - UK Pendragon - The Masquerade overture / Out of this world Bo Hansson - Lord of the rings The Decemberists - The Hazards of love / The crane wife (I know, I know ....) Greetings from Barcelona
@@TheProgCorner They are so... I don't know... "Mariner's revenge song"? What the **** is that? "The Infanta"? Those lyrics are abstruse, man. Even the more "mainstream" albums are something to behold. By the way, XTC is in my top 3 list of best non prog groups ever. Is that good taste or what?
For me the top of this all-time list would have to include Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here and Ambrosia's debut. Your Kansas, Styx, Yes and Rundgren's Utopia selections would also be up in there. But lately I've been working on own top 50 / 100 prog albums of the new millennium to give love to the new stuff. Good excuse for lots of listening. Not putting them in order but let me try to pull fifteen from that list for suggestion... Lee Abraham - Only Human Astra - The Weirding Big Big Train - The Underfall Yard (or others) Cosmograf - The Man Left In Space IQ - Dark Matter (or Road of Bones) Nick Johnston - Remarkably Human (borderline prog) Karmakanic - Who's the Boss in the Factory Lalu - Paint The Sky Magenta - Seven (or We Are Legend) Magic Pie - Fragments of the 5th Element Mostly Autumn - Graveyard Star Nemo - Barbares (or others) Pendragon - Not of this World Phoenix Again - Look Out Yuka & Chronoship - The 3rd Planetary Chronicles (or others) Prog on!
Fantastic!!! Only I prefer The Black Chord to The Weirding but whatever. Outstanding!!! I plan on spending more time with Modern Prog here on the channel. Chasing views unfortunately means sticking to the classics but you know…
@@TheProgCorner OH, I absolutely get that. Still the more I delve into modern prog the more really good work I find. And I go back and forth on the Astra albums. ;)
15 very good picks. But this is difficult. Of course it is. Provided there is only one suggestion per band/artist on a list like this, here's my 10 from the top of my head without thinking too much: 1. Dark Side of the Moon 2. Close to the Edge 3. A Passion Play 4. Octopus 5. Nursery Chryme 6. Greenslade 7. Voyage of the Acolyte 8. Rubicon 9. Brain Salad Surgery 10. Lark's Tongues in Aspic And there's half a million others that I'm embarrassed not to be able to include, but these were the first I could write down by impulse. All of them shaped me back in my teens and they're sort of there forever, no matter how many great records there is outside my list.
My top 15 Prog Albums (1 per band) : 1- The Raven that Refused to Sing 2- Similitude of a Dream 3- The Whirlwind 4- Fear of a Blank Planet 5- Question Mark 6- Hemispheres 7- Wish You Were Here 8- Les Cinqs Saisons 9- Selling England by the Pound 10- V (SB) 11- Close to the Edge 12- English Electric : Full Power 13- Third Degree 14- The Grand Illusion 15- The Mountain
Hey Scot! I must admit there are 3 albums in your favorite 15 that I don't have. No biggie. What is a biggie and a total surprise to me, how can the greatest prog album of all time not be one of your favorites? Not even a slight mention of CTTE? I still can't believe it!!! I will ask again, next week does your top 15 change in any way or are these the 15 that go on your headstone forever? 🪦⚰️⚱️😎
@@TheProgCorner Before reading your reply it dawned on me about the one per band rule. Definitely some of my favs in your fake top 15. Lol. So much damn good music in the 70's!!!👍🔥🔈🔉🔊😎

Excess is the key!!!
I especially like when Scot expands top 10 lists to 25.
this was a lot of fun!! I might have to do one myself! Can't wait to see your Top non-prog albums :D
Also, been loving that I Am The Manic Whale album!!
Right??? Fun record. Maybe could do without the Rubik’s Cube song but hey…
My number one progressive rock album has been the same one since it was released in 1970. McDonald and Giles. Still my favourite listen 53 years later.
Wow!!! What a great little record!!!

Pretty in pink🥰🥰🥰🥰I have to check out Transatlantic…good to see the 🇨🇦…KC !!!! Interesting list..great video Scot❤❤glen
Dave
Super Dave in the house. (Remember him?)

Some American nineties schlock performer, Super Dave Osborne. Oh, you’re not missing a thing!!!
Great to see Topographic Oceans as your no.1. My own personal desert island album.
Absolutely!!!! Hardcore Yes.
Thank you Scot! It was me who was looking for your Greatest albums video and here it is! '72-'77 were the greatest years for prog, I was born in '86, so wasn't alive yet, but I can fully appreciate the power of that era. Colorful picks, keep rocking man! Big fan of yours!
It was you!!!! You’re the reason I did this video!!!! 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, good doctor.
What a great selection; and your top 5 is pretty much flawless! Of course the #1 pick is spot on!
Of course it is!!!! 👍👍👍
In the Court of the Crimson King( An Observation by King Crimson).
So good!!!!
Thankyou for sharing your favorites for no matter what anyone might say they are YOUR favourites. I have discovered prog only in the last 2 years but can mention "Hand Cannot Erase", "A Tab In The Ocean", & "Wish You Were Here" are in my top 15. Blessings.
Steven Wilson!!! Nektar!!! Your Prog journey is progressing VERY well indeed!!!
Great list, we all hear things differently, love your enthusiasm and knowledge 👍
That’s the wonder of it all…
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Supertramp - Crime of the Century
Chicago VII
Genesis - Selling England By The Pound
Nino Ferrer - Blanat
Carol of Harvest
Outstanding!!!!!
Thank you! @@TheProgCorner
Kings Of The Wild Frontier!!!! I love that record, purely because it takes me back to being 10 years old!
Man, I love Adam and the Ants!!! Those first three albums were so fun.
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway ! Whenever I put that album on I think, "I'll just listen to a few tracks"....and I end up having to listen to whole thing !
Yep!!!👍
I abso love your enthusiasm mate. I'm not that into prog rock and the first time I heard the song "Thick as a Brick" I heard "...to be as pink as a pig." It works! 😉 Stay happy mate
Thank you!!! You are a good human. More like you would be welcome.
Me too!!!! Love love love it.
@@TheProgCorner Of course it's Genesis's best!
There is so much out there. I think I’ve listened to most of it…
Any word on "Songs of Zamran"?
Jon is always doing too many things at once. No word on a release date…
Cheers!
You obviously have excellent taste!!!!
Great list !! I've never actually sat down and thought about favorites cause I have a whole lot of favorite albums, but off the top of my head I've always loved Pink Floyd's " The Wall" and anything by Black Sabbath !! 🤘
Paranoid!!!
Another cool episode. Thank you brother.
Thank you!!!!
Yeah, that style of Prog massages a different part of the brain. It’s understandable. I’m still trying to get into Zeuhl and RIO and Prog Metal and…
@@TheProgCorner I just have such respect for how you truly love it all - from something like "Fooling Yourself" which I would consider at the "beginner's" end, to "The Colony of Slippermen" which seems to require a bit more prog "maturity", if you will, to the stuff on Larks Tongue.
P.S. I just relistend to Kansas s/t: man, it is SO good! I had forgotten how much I loved Apercu, too!!
That’s one advantage of having a TH-cam channel: I can talk about all the bands I love!!!
You had me at Bridge Across Forever.
My man.
Did anyone count how many times Scot said 1973? Must have been some kind of year for music!
It was!!!! Probably my favorite year for music.
Scot, what do you think about the GREAT, FANTASTIC song by IQ - GUIDING LIGHT??!!
Guiding Light might be my favorite IQ track!!!!
Looking forward to non Prog!!! Good to see you back!!!!
That should be a lot of fun.
@@TheProgCorner2:14 “‘Back’ into prog”?
My top 10 prog albums, in no particular order, no repeat bands:
Yes - Close to the Edge
Magma - K.A.

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down
Univers Zero - Heresie
King Crimson - Larks' Tongues
PFM - Per Un Amico
Gentle Giant - In a Glass House
Anglagard - Hybris
Thinking Plague - In Extremis
In actuality, there are dozens more albums I rate just as highly as these. So, if I were to make this list in a week, some of the choices would probably be different.
That’s a beautiful list!!!
I love that you have Fashion Nugget on your shelf! Cake is fantastic!

So refreshing to hear a favorite prog album list with actual Americans on it!
I did have a couple American acts on there, didn’t I? And no Italian albums??? Hmmm.
Great list! There are 3 albums that, to me, every second of is perfect.
Tales From Topographic Oceans
Pawn Hearts
Going For the One
Yes!!!!!!
Scot looks so happy on the thumbnail :D
My wife wasn’t amused with that pic…
So many great albums on your list! I admire you for admitting you like Styx since they are one of those bands many people love to make fun of or hate on. I still like Sail Away and Fooling Yourself. The latter has that ELP synth thing going on. I also really like 2 of the albums in back of you in the video - Bowie and Cake. Both great albums. Cake still makes me laugh and yet their musicianship is legit.
I love Cake!!!! Great live band too.
Spock's Beard albums are easy to rate. What about Pagans mind or symphony x and bands of that nature???
I love Symphony X. I’m doing an American Prog Metal episode soon. Lots of bands I rarely talk about…
@@TheProgCorner that would be awesome. Captain Beyond was an excellent band, I like all 3 albums, Dancing madly backwards, Sufficiently Breathless and Dawn Explosion.
Spock's Beard is another band I enjoy, Pagans Mind and Camel.
Nice!!!
Happy to see Tales in number one !!! And I still do not understand why Rick Wakeman hated this album, which lead to his departure. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise because Patrick Moraz gave Relayer a unique flavor.
I agree!!!! No Moraz, no Relayer. And that’s a world I don’t want to live in…
Great list, Scot. And it's good to see other peoples choices. So varied. That's the best thing about music lovers. Well here's the 10 I'm taking into my next life. So please cut me some slack on my non-prog choices. Again, this is my eternity 10.

2. Seconds Out
3.This Is The Moody Blues
4. Thick As A Brick
5. Quadrophenia
6. Moving Pictures
7. Abbey Road
8. Tales From Topographic Oceans
9. The Wall or Animals (coin toss)
10. Beethoven 'Emperor Concerto'
Ah…Piano Concerto #5!!! I love Beethoven. And Bach. And Stravinsky!!!

King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
Beautiful!!!!
Hey Scot. Of course us regular watchers knew what was going to me number 1. You're the Casey Kasem of Prog Rock Scot!🤩
I am!!! I really am!!!
My favorite albums by ten of these bands:
Utopia: Oops! Wrong Planet
Jon Anderson: Olias Of Sunhillo
Rush: Permanent Waves
Kansas: Point Of Know Return
Gentle Giant: s/t
Pink Floyd: Animals
King Crimson: In the Court Of…
ELP: Tarkus
Genesis: Selling England By the £
Yes: Tormato
That’s right, I said Tormato!
I’m sure there’s something there…
👍👍❤️❤️👍👍❤️❤️
Thanks, fun list. agree with your picks for best albums from gg, elp, crimson, and yes. i go back and forth with genesis, lean foxtrot. surprised by animals
pick. i would go meddle or dark side. surprised no italian in your top 15. a pfm album would be in there for me. plus locanda delle fate and passio secundum mattheum. the other thing is you restricted these to one per band, so is it really your 15 favorites, e.g., how many of these do you really prefer over ctte or relayer?
Exactly. My real Top Ten would probably be five Yes and five Genesis albums!!!

Hey, great list as always! I noticed I haven't listened to a Gentle Giant album yet, could you give me a good album recommendation to start with?
I would start with Free Hand. It’s got a bit of everything there and a pretty easy listen - relatively speaking!!!
Just finished the full album, very great! Can't wait to see their other albums!
Awesome!!!
Barre is the most underrated guitarist.
And Barry is probably the most underrated drummer ever!!!!
"It" from Genesis is one of the best closers to an album. I don't know how anyone would disagree with that
Me neither but I’ve heard that complaint many times. Ridiculous!!!
13/15 !!! Thats pretty good (meaning albums i own and love from your 15!)
And which two are you missing???
@@TheProgCorner Transatlantic and Styx

I agree with most of your choices, and I'm glad that somebody else loves Yes's Tales From Topographic Oceans. Easily one of the most ambitious albums in prog, even if it isn't quite their best in my opinion (I still prefer Fragile, Close To The Edge, and The Yes Album, the triangle of Yes at their best)
From The Yes Album to Relayer: pure perfection.
@@TheProgCorner Going For The One is also pretty good. Can't say the same for Tormato. The albums before The Yes Album were also good, but not quite as consistent.

Kansas: Song For America
Supertramp: Crime Of the Century
Kerry Livgren: Seeds Of Change
Genesis: Selling England By The Pound
Gentle Giant: The Power And The Glory
Camel: Mirage
Yes: Fragile
Styx: The Grand Illusion( I actually prefer Paradise Theater, but not much prog on that)
Rush: Permanent Waves
Pink Floyd: Meddle
King Crimson: Larks Tongues In Aspic
Jethro Tull: Songs From The Wood(just edging out Benefit)
A prog album by a non-prog artist: Dire Straits--Love Over Gold
Top two are top two, the rest are tied in order of importance...too much good stuff to mention

And I go back and forth on the Astra albums. ;)
So good…
1.Dark side of the Moon 2.Led Zep 4 3.Let it be 4.Forever Changes 5,In a Gadda Da Vida
Awesome!!!
I love "Animation"...Jon Anderson solo album from 1982...
Me too!!!
Agree! A lot of people don't like his Christmas album 3 ships but I think it is great!
I think it’s charming.
15 very good picks. But this is difficult. Of course it is.
Provided there is only one suggestion per band/artist on a list like this, here's my 10 from the top of my head without thinking too much:
1. Dark Side of the Moon
2. Close to the Edge
3. A Passion Play
4. Octopus
5. Nursery Chryme
6. Greenslade
7. Voyage of the Acolyte
8. Rubicon
9. Brain Salad Surgery
10. Lark's Tongues in Aspic
And there's half a million others that I'm embarrassed not to be able to include, but these were the first I could write down by impulse.
All of them shaped me back in my teens and they're sort of there forever, no matter how many great records there is outside my list.
That’s the way to do it - right off the top of your head!!! Fantastic list. Utterly.
Great picks 🤘
Thank you!!!

The Top Nine have remained unchanged since 1977. Like I said, if this were a real list…
@@TheProgCorner Before reading your reply it dawned on me about the one per band rule. Definitely some of my favs in your fake top 15. Lol. So much damn good music in the 70's!!!👍🔥🔈🔉🔊😎
🤩

@@TheProgCorner I'm glad you agree with me. Sorry I don't have any prog albums in my list.
@@TheProgCorner You like OneRepublic I'm guessing? You may not like Coldplay or Maroon 5, but I thought I would ask you about OneRepublic since you said all my album choices are good.
I totally respect Ryan Tedder. That dude knows what he’s doing.
@@TheProgCorner Cool, he’s been one of my favorite musicians most of my life.
I'm gonna be interested to see the non-prog list. 👍
That will be a lot of fun. Still working on it...
I love these lists Scot, but 15 ? Why so short?
16-40 next week. (Shorter videos are getting way more views so…)
