I was there from 1990, I witnessed the filling of the lake. My father lived at Northburn until he was forced to find new accommodations due to the filling of the lake.
For anyone who may be curious... The car which can be seen submerged on the Lowburn Bridge, appears to be a Vauxhall Cresta PC series. And it looks to be the PCS model, which were built in New Zealand from 1966 to 1971 :
Imagine if they had to lower the lake down to the point where you could clearly see the bridges from the surface, or if the lake had to be drained for a while and the bridges are exposed
What about that wee gold miners stone hut? would be half way almost between Cromwell and the dam! on the Westen side of the Gorge. Watched it go under! Still had windows and the door!

Oh - so you be NOT lazy - and just walk across it - (like I did back in the 1970's long before it became another Titanic = rusty wreck)..? Yeah - like to see you WALK across that bridge now - without scuba gear.
I would SWIM it. Without using an underwater scooter or what ever the hell those things are called. My comment was 8 years old yet you come out trying to be a hero? What a clown
B. Dennis. M. Skinner. and F. Wilson. we were the last people to stand on the Lowburn bridge. We stayed on the bridge until it was under water

Best place for it.
Thanks for this footage. The submerged bridge at Cromwell was built in 1891, but made use of the masonry from the 1860s bridge that it replaced.
I was amazed the car still on the Lowburn Bridge!
Great video, never knew about these bridges! Would love to freedive them one day!
