I totally agree with Brad. I am a retired teacher who retired at age 56. I thoroughly enjoyed my career but I wanted to do more for me after raising a family. As a former collegiate athlete, over time, i gave to everyone else and did less for me. I gained over 80lbs and was very out of shape. I decided that in retirement I would get back into shape so that I could do more when I age. Over the last year I lost 60 lbs and have endeavoured in my second passion, travel. My wife and I recently travelled to Spain, Portugal and Morocco and this winter we plan on seeing Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. I have someone to love, something to do and something to look forward to. But I would like to also add to the list passive income to engage in the activities to enjoy. Without passive income, retirement would be very restricted. I truly believe with love, health and time, these years so far have been exactly what we have envisioned retirement should look like.
Congrats on the tremendous improvement in your physique! And .. thanks for sharing your journey.
Great video! Before retirement I worked 60-70 hours/week and that is a lot of time to fill. I had an unrealistic view of what my life was going to look like. I have someone, actually several someones, to love and had a somewhat skewed vision of what to look forward to. But I lacked something to do and found that to be critical. I have since found something that fills my week with purpose and as a consequence am thoroughly enjoying retirement!
Thanks for sharing! People need to hear from others like you who have faced the next season.
