This is Horsetail Fall, a seasonal phenomenon that is amazing, But, does anyone remember the actual manmade Firefall in Yosemite? I saw it many summers in a row as a child while camping in Yosemite. According to WIKI "The Yosemite Firefall was a summer time event that began in 1872 and continued for almost a century, in which burning hot embers were spilled from the top of Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park to the valley 3,000 feet (900 m) below. From a distance it appeared as a glowing waterfall. The owners of the Glacier Point Hotel conducted the firefall. History has it that David Curry, founder of Camp Curry, would stand at the base of the fall, and yell "Let the fire fall," each night as a signal to start pushing the embers over." Crazy, Huh? But never a disappointment, and magical as a kid! "Let the fie fall!"
Melody.....Yep....way back in the late 60's, when I did a lot of hiking in Yosemite with my family and various relatives. A large fire was created on top, and after dark, a bulldozer carefully pushed the burning coals and embers over the edge, with the falling embers resembling a glowing red waterfall. I never tried to photograph it and just enjoyed the splendor, but many did. Many times during my hikes there, we would hang around for this 'Firefall' event, often about 9:30 when it had grown fully dark, and then make the four hour plus drive back to my Monterey Bay home. I've always thought that bulldozer operator must have had nerves of steel.....and cajones to match!
No, you're not allowed to fly drones over federal land. Some parks allow it, but always check and make sure before you lift off! Don't wanna end up with a fine (as I did)
I'm going to Mt Badly this weekend, and Sequoia and Yosemite next month. What do they all have in common? No drones allowed. All the nazi national parks and any place remotely pretty have banned drones. Fly it over a junkyard or something so Karens don't complain.
Just saw it today. Huge disappointment. Walked 45 minutes in the cold with crowds of people. The falls itself is barely a trickle, I didn't think there was a waterfall at all at first. Then when it finally glowed, everyone around us was like, this is it?! The reward isn't worth the payoff. The water glows slightly orange and any pics/videos have definitely been color graded. Then you leave and its packed, hard to get out, and there's no where to eat in or around Yosemite/Oakhurst after 8. Go to Yosemite during the warmer months when the trails actually open up and aren't covered in ice
Sure, let me use my PTO in these storms and drive for 7 hours in a rented AWD with chains on, and freeze in that weather to watch sun's reflection in the waterfall for a few mins if there are no clouds and not much breeze. Some photography should pay for my retirement then. It's not like every tom dick and harry is a photographer these days.
Cool 😎
Welcome back to Audit the Parks. Where we sort out the who and where and the right and wrongs of traveling to National Parks.
This is the LockPicking Lawyer crossover that I didn’t know I needed. Thanks for the insights!

aw, it sure looks like a volcano mustering all it's might in order to function. you can do it, volcano! Volca-yes!! go
They should make the nearest parking lot 20 miles away and destroy all the roads to it just leaving walking trails.
ITS THE SUN,THERES NO FIRE

Also forgot to mention you need extremely hard to acquire passes just to get in the park during this time
Nature it unpredictable, I've gone before and it was amazing, next day was barely visible. Takes some dedication and luck 🤷

You seem angry
i live only 100 miles from yosemite. and stay away from the place, costs too much. and most of the year is way over crowded.
Trust me I've seen the firefall. The best time to see it is Feb21-25 @around 5:15. Feb 23 is the best date.
Wow
