Love your post, planning for my first nanowrimo, third book of a trilogy. Wrote second book using your outline format. Way better than first book in trilogy written by the seat of the pants. Thank you sooooooooo much
I've started to incorporate your 5 character traits into my method as well. I plan to go through every character, after NaNoWriMo, and make a sheet for them, then edit my story. Now, back to writing!
Uggggggggh, characterization. If I could go back in time and talk to my pre-NaNo self, the one piece of advice I would give her is 'Get your MC a freakin' personality!' I'm hoping it'll develop on its own as she gets older. I just wanted to thank you for doing all these pep talks and stuff. I look forward to watching your videos each day. Actually, I don't allow myself to watch your video at all until I get my words done. Also, you look pretty today. Uh, not that you don't always... :)
Your videos are so informative and entertaining! :D I'm definitely doing NaNoWriMo next year. I would have participated this year, but unfortunately I had to give it up as this November my main priority has been my first art exhibition, so all of my creativity has been thrown into that. I hope you'll be participating again too, as I feel very encouraged when I watch your videos...and I'm not even doing NaNoWriMo this year haha xD Anyway, keep up the good work! :D
Haha I put my last word to paper on Thanksgiving. November was a horrible month for me, between the flu, getting walking pneumonia, midterms, and family, I was lucky that half my story wasn't medicated ramblings of a sick woman. As it is, I was going back over it last month and I found 1st person pov when I was only supposed to by writing 3rd omni pov. It was a strange strange month.
My method is a little different. I usually try to provide 3 motivations/goals for my characters that work outside the main story. I won't get to a lot of these in a novel, but it helps a lot. You start to wonder why they want those particular things and the whole thing snowballs into some great characters... Until NaNoWriMo grows mean and makes you completely forget to develop them in the book so you just hope you can save them come future revisions.
Hmmmm, "Character Interviews" are a really good idea on how to come up with additional info on character development, Thank You for sharing that. Mmmmm, reeces peanut butter cups, now I'm jealous, now I want some peanut butter and chocolate. Oh and I do have to say that it's awesome that You can sustain making a ten minute, edited video every day, Kudos on Your attention span working capability.
I will go back to that video atnd look closely :) I know this isn't book related at all but I would love to see a video in which you talked about the ink on your skin for once (as opposed to the ink in the pages you usually talk about)
You are slowly getting angrier and angrier lol. Scary Kat. But, #katgivesgreatadvice so it's okay. But in all seriousness this is good advice, thanks for the tip.
Your writing advice videos are so amazing

How do you keep track of all the "minor characters"? Be George R.R. Martin.
