Thank you both for this nice tour. As a stupid economist with interest in sailboats, I will never understand why a JPK 45 is half the price of an Amel 50. Inflation skyrocketed the last 4 years plus the pandemic drove sailboat prices utterly nuts, but my understanding of sailboats prices came to the conclusion: It is a Wild West business. PS: I am not referring to JPK specifically, all manufacturers do.
I look at it from a different view. The boating industry is littered with bankrupt builders (Oyster, Gunboat and RM are just a few). So it is fair builders are not minting money. My experience with JPK was fantastic. I was worried about sending a boat builder money buy they were very fair and transparent. I would buy from them again! But if you want value a used boat is a much better deal. I think boat business will go into a cooler period soon. In Florida and NY marina space is very expensive. Where do you teach Econ?
@@svcyclops Agree 100%...in fact, I am the second owner of a custom 38 foot sailboat that is cold molded in western red cedar and vacuum bagged carbon fiber, with a carbon rotating wing mast (boat designed by Sponberg, boat built by Van Dam, mast built by Van Dusen). It is an incredible boat, with amazing build quality, and an incredible boat to sail. At this point in my career, and with three daughters in college, I could never afford to commission a build like this ;-)
@ Fair point. Funny enough, the least price increase my research showed was by Rustler in Cornwall. Okay, high level price for high level product. 33% price increase over four years was the lowest I encountered. I am in the so called federal republic of germany.

Great comment! Let's build a cost model and see if we can find out why: DM + DL + Mfg. OH=COGS....plus all those pesky corporate overhead costs=ouch!
