I was sitting, thinking about all the great voices I have heard in my lifetime, and Ivan Rebroff's name popped into my head. I remember he came to visit South Africa in the 70s and even learned some Afrikaans songs (phonetically) to sing at his shows. I believe he might have even brought out a record of it. I never even realized that he was German and not Russian. I only now found that out because adult me wondered how a Russian artist would or could have visited South Africa in the 70s.

This guy's a genius! I've never seen an artist so skillfully hold the audience in the palm of his hand. He so expertly begins the openings unbelievably slowly, and then goes from fast to incredibly fast. The thing is: people follow him! What else can they do? Also, the voice is spectacular. After a few drinks of Vodka he invited my step/father on stage .Due to humillity he declined the offer.

This guy's a genius! I've never seen an artist so skillfully hold the audience in the palm of his hand. He so expertly begins the openings unbelievably slowly, and then goes from fast to incredibly fast. The thing is: people follow him! What else can they do? Also, the voice is spectacular. Not only is he a real basso, he also has an an amazing falsetto, which he used here beautifully. How is it I never heard about him 'tim today?

@@gerardsotxoa Allegedly. But the way he butchered the pronunciation he never learned to speak by first hand experience. He also chose to play the stereotypical "Russian" with the outfits he was wearing and the way he rolled the "R". Most of his story's about his parents background aren't confirmed. I don't think/believe hes Russian and just did it for the money.

What an amazing voice and vocal range.I had the pleasure of meeting him , and introducing him to my step/father a tenor soloist at Weston United Church for 35 years. This was in Barrie , Ont. 1980. After a few drinks of Vodka he invited my step/father on stage .Due to humillity he declined the offer.
