    Empty spots in a fuse box can also exist for hidden features. Such as for allowing a vehicle to be towed with no power, by allowing the transmission to shift into neutral and etc.

    This is a tremendous teaching video, which I will be re-watching and re-watching until I thoroughly understand. I see one of those awesome 04-06 GTOs in some of the shots. My question is this: I want to give my two after market gauges in my 2006 GTO their own power source tied to the ignition, so they only turn on at engine start. Right now I believe the shop wired them with the car audio which is on a switch, I think to the cigarette lighter in console. Thus when I turn the audio on with engine off, the gauges also turn on, which I do not like. So one person suggested add-a-fuse. Your video convinced me, no way. Another suggested I buy a spare fuse block and harvest a terminal from it, this idea I like very much (and your video discusses it). Do you agree? Would both gauges be able to work from a single added terminal? How do I do it? Any videos on this subject especially in a GTO? Needless to say, if you are anywhere near Phoenix AZ, I would gladly drive there and pay you well to do this.

    I have a question.
    How can I match a fuse in a car fuse box and its wire ?
    In other words, how can I identify the wire that caries an identified fuse ?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's a tricky one; I'd have to look into that and actually need to do so for a video idea I have (adding a fuse to a blank spot) so I may be covering this topic in a few months. The best I can think of right now is that you'd have to treat the fuses like a grid and count how many spots over and across it is, then do the same on the wire side, remembering that each fuse as two connections (unless you're dealing with Micro3) and which way they are facing while you're looking at the wire side.

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that's a possibility, but if you don't trust your mechanic, you should probably take your car to another one. Pulling the dashboard apart is a very involved job that mechanics don't want to do if they can avoid it, so if they are indeed going in there, it's not something they would pick in order to put work on the clock.

      Except he makes the same error almost every maker of tutorials commits. He spends 3 or so minutes giving a basic description of what a fuse is and why it is important, presumably under the assumption that many viewers will lack even such basic knowledge. Well and good, but then he immediately afterwards speaks of an ECU under the assumption that the same viewer will know what the term means. How many viewers might we estimate know what an ECU is but do not know the basic concepts behind the value and use of fuses? If anyone guesses anything but zero I would be very interested to hear how they think that situation came to be.
      But I guess he can't be faulted too badly because everyone seems to do this kind of thing and the whole tutorial itself is considerably better than most automotive how-to vids.

I've checked all of my fuses and pertinent relays--all good, but, my power windows and blower motor are still dead. Thanks for showing a picture of it.

Confused about running 2 fuse boxes. 1 running from the ignition switched, so that fuse box only live when the key is turned the other box would have a direct feed from the battery So which car circuits need to have there feed from the fuse box switch by the ignition and which circuits need the fuse box with the permanent feed directly from the battery?

      I'm sure there are some out there that can be plugged in wrong and prevent me from being able to say they're all going to only fit in correctly, but most of them are either designed to only be plugged in one way, or has circuitry that forms an "X" pattern, (some four pin relays) so it can be plugged in two ways, but both directions work.

    I know this is probably a very stupid question, however, im looking to find out why the relays i believe to be interchangeable are not. I have a 98 f150 and I'm trying to get my compressor to come on. Ive done a lot of testing and have more to go BUT i noticed that my manual shows i should have an ACC DELAY RELAY (FULL) and an ACCESSORY DELAY RELAY (FULL) inside under my dash on R4 and R5. Well there are no full relays at all. Before i start taking apart things that are much harder to check on why. I took what i thought to be a full relay from my junction box and when i went to place it in the R5 ACC DELAY RELAY spot its loose. All 3 of the full relays under dash have no visible metal/connectors (not sure how to say that). I was going to head to a junk yard later, but i will have to wait a day or so and would like to work on it in the meantime. You said in the video that it could be from the manufacturer just adding spots or open spots for things later. But the horn relay SHOULD fit into my ACC DELAY RELAY. Am i missing something??

    Great information. Question, I am trying to track down a charging problem. A prime suspect is an ac compressor replaced 6 months ago. The mechanic had some issues with the connector/wiring at that time. When I removed the a/c fuse inside the cab of 06 sportage, I lost all response from auto windows, (they wont operate with that fuse pulled). Is it normal or common for a fuse to control more than what the box diagram indicates ?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, and great question! While it is semi-common, those two components (AC compressor/auto windows) being linked seems a little odd. Components linked together on the same fuse tend to be either related or in close proximity, such as the power accessories/cigarette lighter fuse also providing power to the OBD-2 port. If there is some sort of relationship, like the windows being down disabling the AC automatically, that would make more sense, but I haven't encountered a car that does that. I have limited experience with Hyundai/Kia AC systems, though.

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is power not available at the switching side, the control side, or both?
      Sometimes there are things that cut off power to the AC in order to prevent damage to the AC system or to prioritize engine cooling. Too much refrigerant pressure, an engine overheating condition, or faulty sensors that detect those things are just some examples that can cause that. I would check out things like that before replacing the fuse box. A faulty wire in the fuse box is possible, but other issues are much more common and require much less wire splicing.

    let's say the original amp on my nissan's fuse box is 10amp and that fuse is intended for the room lamp, I changed it to 20amp since there's no 10amp to use, when I tried using the 20amps it did work all lights are functioning. now my question is, will it damge my computer box by using 20amp instead of the original 10amp?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  ปีที่แล้ว

      Damage to the computer (or other components) could occur, but it also might not (counting on luck for the latter). However, when a short term fix works temporarily, people often forget to complete the fix, so it's best to make sure that gets replaced with a 10 amp fuse again sooner rather than later. Whatever caused the last 10 amp fuse to pop could happen immediately with the next use, or it may not occur again for another year.

    OK How do I wire a brand new circuit into an existing fuse box? Add something new in a blank location?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While it's easier to add a new fuse circuit outside the fuse box, what you're asking about is something I am going to do in a future project (that I will of course make a video about).
      However, to answer your question for the time being, it will depend on what kind of infrastructure is already in the fuse box, but generally you will need to get replacement electrical connectors for that fuse box and install them (how that's done will differ between manufacturers/models/years) with the appropriate wire size leading to and from your new component. Finding the connector that is a direct fit for a given vehicle is probably the hardest part; that's the part I need to look into more.

    What does +B mean on my fuse diagram? I have multiple fuses that say what they are, and then "+B" underneath it.

    recently purchased a 1994 lexus ls400...shortly after, i noticed that the buttons on the radio and the shifter markers do not light up..i pulled the panel fuse (7.5 amp) and it seemed ok. want to have someone look at it but in the meantime i bought a usb outlet for my cigarette lighter and plugged it in...the power from cig lighter worked because the USB port lit up but a few moments after plugging it in the wiper fluid sprayed and the “traction control off” light up on the instrument panel without me touching anything. will be taking it to get looked at but wondering if you have any thoughts? Seems odd that plugging into the cigarette lighter would trigger the washer fluid to spray. perhaps there’s a ghost lol jk cheers great video

    Quick question can you damage the fuse if you press down to hard?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume you mean the typical fuse with the two metal connectors, because there are some like the glass tube ones that for sure will, but a lot of the spade end ones are decently durable. I could see some types that are made out of cheaper plastic, thinner plastic, or have become brittle with age breaking if pushed in too hard. I've had to push in pretty hard on some and have never had one break, but I'm sure it's possible. Damage may also occur in the fuse block itself, but that seems even less likely.

    Is it possible if in the diagram of the fuses in my car there are two fuses that are supposed to be but in practice in the box itself they are not present and they also do not have the connectors to which the fuse legs are supposed to connect? My vehicle is a Kia Picanto 2013 manual transmission

    With key on or car running should I have power to one side of the fuse?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In any situation where the fuse is connected in the car, if you can detect power on one side of the fuse and not the other, the fuse is blown. [This does not apply to relays or other components.]
      If voltage made it all the way to the first side of the fuse, and both sides are connected by the fused element inside, the voltage will continue to the other side.

      @@CarsSimplified I know that. The question is......should one side of the bar have power when the car is running or key on?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, key on should provide power to more fuses than just battery power, but some may require additional switches/relays in the on position. Generally I would count on key on to provide power, but if that assumption is wrong, there's a lot of wasted diagnostic time chasing other things. But in most cases, yes, key on and engine running, there should be power at the fuse.

    I need help! One of my fuse connector is messed up: it appears it does not supply ground (or the negative). What do I do? Other fuses and relays are working properly in my engine fuse box when checked with a multimeter; it is just that one fuse connector that is not working. Please help!

    Hey I’ve got a question? Is it safe to keep a fuse out of its position and have it essentially “turned off”. I’m mainly referencing to my power antennas fuse that I’ve removed because it’s motor is stuck in a constant motion.

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As long as it for sure doesn't control anything else that you want to keep available, then yes. Sometimes that's a method mechanics use to diagnose an issue. I can't imagine any vital stuff tied to the power antenna circuit but it's always worth checking.

    The fuses in my fuse Box have to match the places of the fuses in my owner's manual?

    Hey I have two different relay fuses with dofferent numbers on the top of them and i have only one with the numbers on the side on that diagram lower then the rest. So i pull out the one for the air injection reactor solenoid to switch with the one next to it I believe I did because I had the service engine code that came up for that one. So now i switched them and a third one which is the old fuel pump relay. So i have two with the higher number that shows on the side of it of that pic diagram and i have one with the lower numbers on the side of the relay.
    Is there a differance between those to relays with the side number being low and the other one with the higher numbers. Or would the small number one go into either the air injection reactor solinoid fuse spot, or the air conditiong, or the electric adjustible peddle?

    Ok so I have an 05 buick terraza bought it and started driving home and the van just died. Well I'm thinking the engine bay fuse box would need replaced because the prongs and everything are bent. Anyway there's a sticker with a barcode on it and above it, it says (P) then the numbers. Is this the part number I need to order the right one? Or how do I find one that's exact?

    Where is the ground of the fuse box situated?

    • @CarsSimplified
      @CarsSimplified  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless there is something in the fuse box other than circuit protection items (that's all you will find in there most of the time) there will be no ground. There will likely be some wires that are basically heading to ground coming from the coil side of the relays, but for those the wire will have to be followed, and ground will have to be confirmed.
