So, Here's my reply to some common arguments against this video:- - Argument 1: Pay to win can't exist in single player game My Reply: Pay to win is just general term that I used to show greedy practices, yes almost every game dev nowdays do such practices which kind of normalised it but it still won't make it right. Locking stuff that should be part of base game behind some paywall isn't right. The basic meaning of pay to win is paying for something to get edge over any challenge that game offers whether thats other players in online games or difficult terrain in this case. - Argument 2: Game is too hard for me so its ok for me to have mastodon, etc from level 1 My Reply: Firstly the mods exist and they're free, Secondly if you want mastodon from start without doing anything what's the reason to even play the game, In that case you would get bored within few hours and would never touch this game again because there's no challenge left. Throughout gaming history, Every game has progression based reward system and that's how things should be. I am not entirely against such DLCs but I am against the fact that they're there from level 1 & you've to pay for them. If devs think their game is too hard or broken why not fix it for free, why sell the solution.
To the difficulty argument I say: The game isn't hard. The game is time consuming. People need to stop equating impatience to difficulty. If you want to cheat the games difficulty system then have at it, you paid for it, but stop using stupid excuses.
@@SD1ONE I do have the Mastodon but almost never uses it because yes it makes things too easy, and I really like challenge. I only use it from time to time for fun in super-vilain fashion, releasing the beast, dominate the hardest terrain with ease with a maniacal laughter, then I go back to normal. Keeping things challenging are indeed very important to keep the game entertaining. And I 100% agree on the lack of buffs for base game trucks or buffs by upgrades in DLCs, it's a pretty bd practice in my book.
I think you should have an option when setting up a new game: lock all dlc content from begging. So it will be unlocked via playing like all other content. And you will not get trucks for free from start
Hear me out; you should never be restricted to highway tires to begin with. I don't mind the DLC given it's not competitive MP, that's when it becomes P2W imo. What I don't like is calling it a Season Pass and then still having DLC trucks that aren't included in it. A season pass should be everything you release in that time period
Yeah i agree, idc if i pay to make my experience easier or harder everyone can just choose not to use those, i don't use the big heavy OP trucks even tho i have them, i use the normal trucks and yes i struggle but i have fun. I also don't mind packs like JAT which don't add new OP vehicles but help improve all vehicles including the weak ones i use. That being said a YEARLY pass is by definition you the user playing in advance for ALL the content in that year but these greedy pieces of shit devs literally scam ppl by lying to their faces about the yearly pass to then add tens of other vehicles as individual paid stuff and they ain't cheap either cuz some of that shit is rlly pricey. If i support the game by paying in advance for a yearly pass imma want all the content in that year, if it was called Seasonal pass then maybe i could've taken it as "ok is seasonal pass, i get these seasons and their content and everything else is extra" but it's goddamn yearly pass for gimme the damn year worth of DLC. Then again Saber has a long track record of being genuine greedy pieces of shit, and i mean EA/Activision levels of unimaginable greed and that is literally what killed several of their games including Dakar Rally and Expetrash.
Absolutely! The fact that the very first truck you get (GMC MH9500) has its Engagable AWD locked away in a DLC map is disgusting! The truck is basically useless without that upgrade.
Don’t get me wrong, I did have fun exploring to get these said upgrades, but it would’ve been great if you could find these upgrades in the 3 base game locations(Michigan, Alaska and Taymyr), that way I could save money, but at least I got some other great trucks with these seasons so that’s nice
Roof racks. No og trucks have roof racks. Nearly all DLC trucks have roof racks. The og trucks, even though don't lack in power, less fuel makes them less useful for long hauls.
i was playing snowrunner with a friend ,and then he bought the mastodon and ruined the entire michigan early game experience for me ,so i stopped playing snowrunner with him. mastodon is basically the "tell me you dont want to play ,without telling me u dont want to play" truck, what is even the point.
I know how this feels. But now you can start a custom campaign where you lock away DLC trucks or make them only available after a certain level or that you have to buy them in the store, instead of just being handed them for free. This is what me and a couple of friends did. The game got a lot more interesting once people didn't have access to OP vehicles at lvl 1.
I understand where the opinions in this video come from, but then again I like that there is now more choice. (Yes, maybe some of these options should be extended to the old (original) trucks as well.) Some people like to be overly challenged (Amur & Kola Peninsula, Russia maps), but for me those maps lose their replay value after I pushed through them once to finish them. Now I can choose to use better trucks and those maps are not so stressful and I can just enjoy the game. If I wanted to, I could make it very challenging on myself or I can approach the game as a relaxing way to spend time. I have the choice to do what fits me.
I think the base Snowrunner is a good value. It's about 50 vehicles and 3 huge maps. I did it without any DLCs in 150 hours. After that I bought DLCs. I'm playing all trucks and thanks that game is not boring.
I think that's good strategy.... once you experienced base game then you already played best part is game anyway...After that it's ok to try both DLCs and normal trucks.
That is very true, although at least the navistar was somewhat balanced by its horrendous fuel efficiency forcing you to use it for short routes. New dlc trucks don’t have such limitations.
@@sugarflame1833 While true, Alaska and Michigan have gas stations every ten feet. I also never noticed because I like to set up refueling points so I had a bit of Dunning-Kroger on that one.
I thought there was no wrong way to play this game, as long as you have fun. I don't agree that some upgrades you need dlcs for but the rest, like if you want a better truck and have the money for it then that's up to you
I've been playing Snowrunner since the first day of release, have several thousand hours in the game, and one thing is certain: if the Mastodon and the other powerful monsters that followed hadn't come out, I would have put Snowrunner away by now. I remember feeling burnt out and bored with the game after Ontario, and these powerful trucks revitalized my enjoyment of the game. I know some content producing veterans can't seem to understand this, but if I've driven a thousand hours with Azov and Voron and 500 hours with Fleetstar and Brigadier, then I actually don't want to drive the same stupid vehicles for a thousand hours again, at some point it will I get bored. I always found the 605 Zikz to be overrated, a great off-roader but in practice too inflexible for many jobs to be a real replacement for the old Azov's and Taygas. We finally got similarly powerful trucks that can be used for most jobs. So any veteran whose ultimate definition of fun is driving the Transtar through the snowfield in Amur should do that, but stop being the fun police because people who aren't you enjoy new toys.
but do you think it's ok to have mastodon at level 1... don't you think a new player would be bored if he get mastodon at start... what's the motivation to unlock stuff and what's the motivation to even play the game at that point
Problem is that the Mastodon is unlocked, at level ONE. So, any new player who just bought the game + all the DLCs can just immediately invalidate Michigan. Which is a shame because Michigan isn't all that hard of a map, and the base game trucks you get from here are more than perfectly capable of doing what the Mastodon could. International Fleetstar and Western Star 4964 in particular are versatile, capable off-road, VERY easy to get early game, and the upgrades are literally around the trucks. You'd have to be either lazy or not thorough enough in your scouting to not find these 2 trucks and their upgrades. Heck, the tutorial even LEADS you to where you FIND the Fleetstar. It's basically like using a washing machine just to wash a pair of socks, it's unnecessarily overkill. It doesn't take that long to manually wash one or two pairs of socks and it's not that hard to do. By immediately using the Mastodon, you are missing out on part of the experience, particularly exploration to find upgrades and trucks since this is a core part of the game. If you just want to deliver cargo, you might as well play Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator.
@@SD1ONE i do agree with locking mastodon behind a high level, but with new generation of player being VERY impatient to get the best stuff immediately, if mastodon wasn't available from level 1, then saber would make less money. that's not what the devs want.
I 10000% Agree! The evidence cannot be refuted. Single Player game or not, there has to be balance and I feel it has been lost for quite some time now. The argument of "dont use them" makes the game further limiting for those who wish to not rely on crutches (aka new super trucks) I'd like to play a new vehicle that isnt p2w. My humblest of opinions. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks for backup man...I saw you mentioning same points on your streams as well, I wish devs don't push such DLCs this hard in next game but it seems unlikely.
I don't like that we don't get free regions in updates. Not because i don't want to pay, but because i want to have, for example, easy region to start my game. As for me, the game is made the way that you have only 2 options of your walkthrough: 1 - explore everything in Michigan, go to Alaska and then to Russia; 2 - go to Russia, get everything in it and go everywhere you want. Otherwise your game will take forever to finish and will be a pain. It's kinda boring
I have to admit, that there had been moments when I was seriously thinking about buying a dlc. My biggest issue was with not getting all possible upgrades for base game trucks. And this definetly feels greedy, like the developers teased me to enjoy a game, then give me a truck that is not fully operational (I'm talking ab AWD and similar stuff). In the end I did not tend to buying anything and settled for mods, which are amazing and honestly bring me more joy because many of them are not overpowered like some of those heavy trucks from dlcs.
You didn't even mention just how much better JAT Tires are compared to Vanilla Regular MS I for scouts is only 1.6 mud rating while JAT MS III are 2.5 thats a full 0.9 increase Regular MHS I tires found on most trucks have a 2.0 mud rating while with JAT you get MHS IV with a 2.6 Mud Rating which means that it doesn't even matter if your truck came with MHS II tires anymore which had 2.4 Mud Rating as JAT MHS IV is on all trucks.
Since there's no competition to "win" in a solo game the phrase "pay to win" doesn't apply. Let people enjoy the things they enjoy, and just ignore the things you don't enjoy.
The spirit of completing a game with its difficultly intact is what matters...it could either be single player or multiplayer that doesn't matter...Pay to Win is a general term, you don't have to go into literal meaning of it to understand how it applies to this game.
exactly . i read the title and i was like "in non competetive game ?" BUT hiding base game vehicle Upgrades in a DLC is kinda cringe but meh who cares.
@@niklasniko2850 This "who cares" attitude is why things get worse and worse in every facet of life. People need to drop this apathy behavior or everything is going to shit. A good example is with people that refuse to think that privacy is important online, and use arguments like "Well Google already harvests all my data. I don't care what they do with it"
one of my hot takes about SR is none of the trucks outside of the scout class or the smaller 4x4 offroad class trucks should have roof racks, the mastodon has a 500L fuel tank as it is it shouldn't have a roof rack
I'll disagree with you on that and rebuttal with, it's a single player game and if you don't want a roof rack on heavy trucks don't use it. If others do when they get them they can have it. We shouldn't be punishing people for what they want to use in a single player game. Roof racks on the bigger trucks are extremely nice to have especially in the more serious regions.
@@SD1ONE For me a PS4 player (and likely extends to most if not all console players), mods have not always been the most technically reliable way to play the game. I was playing on a modded map a few months ago with modded vehicles, and I have no idea what happened but the subscribed mod screen doesn't load for me and, the save load screen shows that map has a mod error. Last I checked this problem still persists. Alongside this, my PS4 has a storage capacity limit, so the number of mods can be quite limited, also their compatability will not always be in your favor. Dlc vehickes on the other hand are built into the game and offer variety while at the same time being fairly stable with the game, so kind of a win win rather than a win/potential lose
I remember when I first started. Whatever edition I bought came with the Khan 39 Marshall. I was hesitant to even use it because of how OP it felt. At this point though? I'll gladly except some OP trucks to do some cleanup tasks of stuff that just sucked wayy to much in the base game.
I use the "op" trucks when i need to move alot of cargo and just road train them. Did it with the 963 and femm alot in North Carolina. In cases like that they are needed. I also didn't finish alot of the logging missions in phase 4 until the 963 was added, because it could get though the ice and snow and not get stuck and actually had the addons I wanted for logging. So it was a win win. I really dont think most people use these trucks just to speed though stuff as much as y'all think they do. Some people just use them when they are possibly needed and when its time to use them for that its great. You'd do the same in real life as well.
I totally agree with everything said in the video. Honestly, I'm tired of hearing "it's a single player non-competitive game" every time I mention p2w. By the definition of the said term in the Cambridge Dictionary: "Pay-to-win - The practice of paying to get weapons, abilities, etc. that give you an advantage over players who do not spend money". Nobody said you have to directly compete with the said players. If you pay money to complete the game faster/easier than they do complete it in their single playthrough, it's still pay to win. You win time. And before anyone says anything - yes, cheating and pay to win can exist in a single player game, even if it only affects your playing experience and no one else's. They say it's non-competitive, but every game is competitive, unless it's a free building open world with no dangers. You compete against bots (AI) or some challenges (in this case, difficult driving conditions), and if you can beat them faster/easier thanks to cheats or p2w, that makes you bad as a player and gonna upset the players who like to play fair. I'm one of them. Thanks SD1ONE for covering this topic! I posted your video on Reddit and so far get only negative responses lol... but at least I know that one of the best SnowRunner youtubers is on my side!
I guess part of it is always going to come down to self-restraint and work ethic. *Gets on high horse* I bought the year one season pass when I first bought the game, so I had some stuff in advance. But I didn't use it. I completed the entire base game and got to max level before using or visiting any DLC elements. I had some early handouts, but I still was willing to level up and unlock the vanilla stuff first (the UOD2 tires are STILL worth unlocking). The second thing with the way I play is that I won't buy or use more than one of the same truck unless it's given to me (like the CK 1500). Sure, it would make the game a whole lot easier if I just bought a whole fleet of Mastadons and big Azovs, but where's the fun in that? You're taking the easy way out. So by only having one of any given truck, the OP DLC trucks complement the base fleet, not replace it (since you can't enjoyably beat the game using only a single Mastadon). I also don't use any mods, but that's a different issue.
I can say I fully agree with the DLC vehicles being available at the start. I don't like that at all. If you want any kind of challenge, it basically forces you to do it 'manually' instead of actually having money issues to get better things.
I mean, yes, there is a lot of power creep, but I think if they want to keep releasing harder and harder maps it is somewhat necessary. Although I would prefer that they added even more upgrades for old trucks with each season to make them more viable as well. I think everyone wants trucks like the p16 to be more viable later on.
It's kind of a double-edged sword to be honest. On the one hand - if you are an experienced player, that would mean that by the end of each season you already have the top of the line truck. So introducing something else, even if it is a super truck, may be appealing for you, because you already know your ropes. Same as with JAT tyres. But for new players, it is indeed a ticket to the easy trip. But yet again, from the perspective of new player, would you rather try vanilla game with all its kinks on hard mode and drop it, or get a free pass to grind through 1st season to like it enough to buy forthcoming seasons?!
Lets be honest, if youre playing in hardcore like i am, youll think quickly about mastodont, and if youre using it, its probably the only truck youll use until its on its side or run out of money beacose of its thirst. Hardcore mod eliminates many of the problems youve mentioned. What i agree on is the JAT tires, but on the other hand, for people who dont like starting again is nice option how to get along with the start. The things i hatet the most are: 1, balance: take brigadier for example, its full potential is unlocked at level 14 and costs a lot (if in hardcore). At level 1č it just feels like there are better vehicles to drive... number 2: crane + bed + trailer - there so many trucks who could easyly attach a trailer, the only thing holding them back is ONE line in its code. (when I was playing on pc ive changed that line and it made the game so much more enjoyable ! ) And for little bonus: ive moved the crane and bed on military azov, and if you remove second pait of mudgards nothing collides and it flushes together nicely... Just if devs took those 15mins in which i tested what numbers move what where to make the truck better, or just edit this one line...
I started playing Snowrunner around 2 years ago. At that time, there weren’t any Super-Truck-DLCs or JAT-Tire-DLC. Nowadays, it’s very easy for beginners to get used to the game (for example, if they buy any Truck-DLC and the JAT-Tire-DLC). But in the end, if you can’t handle your trucks, even the best DLC is pretty useless...
You have to learn to respect snowrunner!!! I have about 1000hrs and drive a truck in real live(in the uk) I dont see anyone playing snowrunner for 500+ hrs without finding out how hard it can be with or without dlc.I think that if snowrunner is your thing you will keep playing it with or without dlc. Take a.new player and he buys all dlc in one go and starts playing. He could complete michigan and he would know what snowrunner is about even in easy mode, He would know if he likes snowrunner or not. I only really came back to snowrunner when i heard about hard mode, it made the game way more realistic to me and kept me engaged. I love amd enjoy these new truck monsters they release and its the only game i wait for dlc to release. Overall snowrunner is a one of a kind game and you will play it if it is your thing with or without dlc
I see this differently. What today feels like pay-to-win, when the game was released, we had questions like, why does this truck not have the points and things you showed in this video, since the maps in the beginning were and still are way more difficult than today? The devs started to listen to the community very late, just after second consecutive year when SnowRunner declined in popularity and revenue in comparison to when it was launched. Now, the unbalanced issue in SnowRunner is becoming more noticeable, trcuks buffed and better along with maps way more easy. The "Pay-to-Win" is always a desperate strategy to make any game going down to a comeback, but the problem IMO was always an Unbalaced game and devs not listening the community in the beginning.
Pay two win against who? The mud? Seriouly, you can beat the entire game just using tayga, vorons and the tatarin, easily. The only real thing that these dlcs do is to make someone that just has started a 4yo game skip the base lvl requirements for things. Also, people complained a lot during all these years because stand alone dlc trucks were not worthing the dolar.
I already addressed pay 2 win in single player game argument in pinned comment.... The leveling up & unlocking stuff is best part of game imo....I am not against DLCs but atleast don't make them unlocked from start because there's no need to play the game in that case
@@SD1ONE I understand your point but I have another perspective about it. People play the game to enjoy what it provides in it's content like the map design, tasks, trucks and other things. The level system exist in a way where it really do not teach much but makes the difficulty increase artificially. IMO It's completely flawed as a progression system from the begining, since you can bypass every single aspect of its core without cheating and without using a single dlc as long as you know what you are doing, I can't pretend that dlcs are a real issue here. Of course I do not recommend new players to skip it, for the sake of at least learning how to deal with less powerfull trucks and continuing to enjoy driving them in the end game, but not because of something else.
@@kodaiyoung So, What you're saying is game is broken from start and given that devs introduced these paid DLCs implies that they're selling the solution to their broken game instead of fixing it for free.
@@SD1ONE Well, thats a bit of a reach of what I said but it's also a valid way to view it, to an extend. Saber don't really try to balance or fix some of the game issues at all but I don't believe that they are selling dlcs to "fix" it either, they do it to make more money but people will not give them money for useless crap so, it feels that they are doing it intentionaly. Maybe they really are and I'm being naive, maybe it's just the consequense of their lazyness.
I do love the struggle, suffer, and pain with normal vehicles. Also can test which vanilla og truck is the best. Can't be hating on pacific p12 and p16. They're amazing trucks. Just need a little tweak.
I had to make a New Game+ save, so i could remove all the DLC trucks from my garage without getting the money from selling them. Added the 50% price of selling trucks and trailers and paying for fuel at gas stations, and the game feels much more fun that way. I still have free recoveries and can change time freely, as i'm still very new to the game and i'm still learning all the mechanics and strats. What i do like about the DLC's are the tires, I don't know who in their right mind thought that you should go into muddy and ruined terrain without suitable tires. Popped some off-road tires on my fleetstar and singlehandedly finished black lake and half of smithvill dam with is solo. In my honest opinion, without the DLC tires, leveling with highway tires would be more of an annoyance than a challenge. If they lowered the level requirement for all-terrain and off-road tires, or increased the price of DLC tires in the game shop it would make it a more balanced in the long run.
Whenever developers just start adding P2W DLC content in the game, while the game itself is still filled with bugs and glitches many years later - I'm straight up pirating all the DLCs. I'm especially bothered by the Selective Updates, like what's shown at 6:53. If they don't respect me as a player - I ain't gonna respect them as a developers. I don't care what anyone says, I've had enough of PayDay 2, which becomes a literal half-baked paid demo without DLCs. And the "if you dislike it - don't buy it" argument doesn't work here. How much free content have we got compared to the DLCs? When was the last free content update even?
Yeah cities skylines 1 is exactly the same, without dlcs feels like a demo version, cities skylines 2 is still unplayable, almost no content added since realese and still so many bugs, devs dont care about the players, they care about money, so cities skylines 1 with cracked dlcs and some mods is the way to go.
@@unknown_karma12334 Google "CreamInstaller". The DLC files are already in the game, so you only need to make Steam think that you own them via that software
I think it makes sense that better upgrades are hidden in DLCs since they tend to be harder than the base game. I hate the thought of having bad or even no upgrades in DLCs for base trucks.
@SD1ONE You don't need AWD or Diff Lock for every truck from the base game. You have a lot of trucks to choose from and can finish the game without the upgrades from the later dlcs. It's also a good way to upgrade trucks for more difficult regions and get players to use them again. Unlocking upgrades in the base game would make it much easier (which they don't need to be). What do you guys think about not having upgrades in later regions?
Singleplayer games can be pay-to-win or pay-to-progress. Some people are arguing that you can "choose your difficulty", and that may be true in snowrunner. But the problem is that it provides an incentive to screw up the balance and make things more difficult artificially. If you've ever played war thunder or any singleplayer PvE game you'll know what I'm talking about.
But there is no excuse why OG trucks have upgrades locked in DLC maps. Like the very first truck you get access to in the game (GMC MH9500). It has its Engageable AWD locked away in the Kola Peninsula. That truck is useless until you get that specific upgrade, and you can't get it unless you buy the DLC.
I absolutely agree with you man even tho the difficulty is self chosen here, it is not available to regular guys. this is a good game, but it still has those p2w stuff sometimes. this is why i went captain jack sparrow still my version lags behind updates.
Counter point, if I’m paying for dlc I want it to have an advantage sometimes. Also this is a solo game so there is no one else to beat. I think you are missing the point of the game. As someone who has a lot of dlc I still play with the older trucks to make a task more challenging. That’s the fun about this game is doing the things the way you want. Some vehicles inherently are better. Should they be nurfed so everything is the same? The only point I could see is when a truck is functionally the same as another but performs much better.
Not sure I agree with this take. If you want the challenge in the game, then... don't buy the DLCs? It's not like it's a PVP game where one player's faster progress affects another. That's what I like about Snowrunner. You can make it as difficult or easy as you want because they set up the game so you can play it the way you want. If you're really worried about other players having it easier then you should be advocating for mods to be banned as well, because half of those give you free access to super trucks that are superior to every official truck.
This is also some of the reason I made a New+ game so I can set all trucks to have all the upgrades avaliable from the start instead of having to buy all the DLCs for the upgrades. It was mostly for the GMG and Twin steer) yeah now I don't even bother searching maps for upgrades. I have played normal and hard mode twice on the base game so now its more for fun and co-op. Great video though.
I do not agree to be honest, I am playing through the base game right now and I will buy DLC to continue playing only *after* I completed the base game. The DLC are basically later levels in the game, from what I have heard the regions can be quite a bit harder than the base game. Doesn't it make sense to get better and better trucks as you progress further into the game? I mean, trucks found in Taymyr also make trucks you find in Michigan obsolete, so this happens in the base game too. It is one of the reasons that makes it exciting to explore new regions. I do not see why you would buy the DLCs before you actually played the base game, the only reason would be to get a steam discount. I like to experience the base game as it was intended chronologically with base game trucks and like it a lot. You can cheese OP trucks in Michigan too with only the base game, but you only screw your own experience by doing that. I do agree on the Derry Longhorn engine upgrade though, that thing should've 100% been free.
Hi thanks for video. Finished all seasons without mods. Would say only one dlc truck I would call pay to win is Mastodon, new Azov isn't something impressive, long skinny and easy to flip but very fuel economical. Bought all DLC trucks and zero scouts because no need for this. My top Scouts Tatarin, Ford 750, about seasons its cool they add new vehicles in them. Personally I like fast trucks and high gear and non of new trucks in my list of first importance only Mack Defense Voron Step310 Tyga twinsteer6900 and 5600 10 tyres truck. When I play I have only 1 of each truck in game. Any way all the best!
I agree with some of your points. But with that said, it has not ruined the game for me. I started to play this year. I do use a new game+ (with no DLC trucks for free and pay to recover). Aquiring trucks feels kind of organic when you have to buy them, even if they are overpowered. One issue you touched on, is that DLC trucks get roof racks. I feel like that should be included on the vanilla trucks as well. That would make it easier to use them more compared to the DLC trucks, as that is what I see as the strongest plus with the DLC trucks. But having to pay for DLC to upgrade vanilla trucks is a iffy move.
I agree with most points of your video but I also got a good example of why some of those mechanics aren't that bad. I'm playing Snowrunner with my girlfriend. I'm having like 200 hours in, she has like 140 hours. Mainly because she runs the Mastodon for many of the meaner tasks. She's more of a casual gamer and I'd say we wouldn't have played that long without those easier options like the JAT tires and the DLC trucks. I use them too but more often I find myself using older trucks just for the feel of it. But I'm glad that there is an easier option for players like my gf in that case.
@@SD1ONE maybe. I wouldn't disagree. But: those DLC are one of the reasons this game gets supported for the fourth year now. Sadly that's a debate we could have about gaming as a whole. Should a 70€ game have a season pass or in-game store? It's difficult I think since it's part of modern gaming at this point.
I personaly really agree with this video, after around 3000 hours. It is cool to sometimes use the powerful trucks. But that these can have nearly any addon in the game wile the OG heavy trucks are so crippeld. P16 doesn’t even have studded tires. Atleast give the base game some love too, when we skyrocket the dlc trucks in that way. Most of the OG trucks don‘t have great addons and the ones having them often can‘t handle them at all. But do not put the upgrades in the DLC regions, that’s just disgusting.
This is funny :) You don´t need any DLCs to complete the game. So you don´t need to pay to win. I have all season passes and I am using all trucks because that is the fun. If you want to make things faster, you can just download mods for free. But you will be probably bored sooner or later.... I am not sure you understand how to play this game. Have you completed any season?
Luckily I have started the game a little after launch (3 years) so i buyed the year 1 pass and played like a newbie and struggeld like others so before mastodon came i got to level 30 so I think I got the full experience off leveling up upgrading and struggling in mud with base trucks my first achievement was hardly unlocking the small maz
Mostly agree. Either on purpose or by mistake, they had put base game truck upgrades to the DLCs, and newer trucks tend to be stronger. On the other hand, in newer DLCs (especially 1st year), the maps were many times harder than base game regions, so it makes sense they add stronger trucks. But not all can be shamed- yes, non-lincensed trucks are free to have any parameters to their liking, where as the Tatra 813 you had there is that strong IRL, so it makes sense why it is many times stronger than the Azov. And with the tires, I agree too, however, I think its a fault of the level system, not the dlcs. You see, I had never understood the pointless levels in SR and the progression. Like, why bother locking tires for higher levels? All it does is more pain for newbies. Ofcourse, I agree that you should find and work up to stronger trucks, but to lock mud tires? In fact, I think its good that the JAT tires are avaible from start, but shouldnt be dlc, thats true. And with the dlc trucks, I dunno. Its true that they maybe shouldnt be avaible right aweaym but how do you do it then? Anyway, good video ;) ...
Never have I disagreed with one of your videos...until now. This talk about "win" or "cheat" within the community is foolish. This is a single campaign game in which the developers allow the players to play the way they want...you know.."freedom". In co-op game play; the players can decide the rules of engagement. Buying seasons for upgrades is a choice by the player and a business model for Saber. Freedom to choose needs NOT to go. So many games have turn to subscription services, monetization in every way in order to play a game for enjoyment. SnowRunner, while offering DLC and season passes, is playable without any add-ons. Many early players experienced and completed the OG maps without.
I started the game January 2023 and i only had the base game. I was level 30 and still working through the base game before I got any DLCs. I feel by then, it doesn’t matter what you buy.
@@jordanbutler8828 same. I started from Alaska. I worked my way up. Done 100% on that map moved to Michigan , completed 100% again then i run through sale on store. Got myself 1 to 12 season pass. unclocked handful amount of vehicles and set them randomly around the map. At the moment completed Mine and working in Wisconsin.
Kinda bugs me too that newer DLC vehicles are also superior to older DLC vehicles. Like when I was early on into the game, I bought the Western Star 49X which is just above average, not a superior force like some of the other standalone DLC vehicles. I bought the game when it first came out, so there was no DLC. Starting now is definitely a difference experience.
Just play hard mode or NG+ and choose the option not to include DLC trucks in your garage. I bought the Mastadon DLC but still don't have it in my playthough as it's too expensive.
yes I know about that but for optimal game experience, Nomal mode is way to go & the way devs setup these DLCs is not giving new players incentive to unlock anything or to progress game naturally
I agree with you. Hardmode is easy. One thing I dislike on hardmode is that you can not sell trailers. And I also miss manual gearboxes in the game. Hey devs I want it more challenging this way. Not the way you set some parameters insanely hard. Overheating engine, broken kardan and springs dul to overloading. Broken or torn chassis. I hate breaking suspension and pneu on little bump or a stick or pile od leaves. @@bazzle_brush
i just bought all 4 seasons. i was struggling with the bandit. although it was getting me buy. finally sold all the scout trucks and bought some bigger ones. way better. i have mud runnner for the ps4 so i knew what i was getting myself into. not a perfect game. but still fun to play. i dont want to just google and youtube everything. i want to grind it, and learn. i have the mastadon in mud runnner. its the be all end all. ( as long as you are hauling fuel cistern with it or a second fuel truck to baby sit it )
In general, I have the impression that no one thinks about the game's balance. In addition to the regions being too easy, there are also too many trailers, and definitely too much fuel. Hard mode should be the standard mode. And Hard Mode should be really more difficult when it comes to finances. Maybe hard mode should have different stats like tires or surfaces? So that it would actually be harder.
TH-camrs and a big part of community is why it happened, for example - Good truck DLC? Nooo, it's overpowered, game is to easy now. Bad truck DLC? Nooo, it's at same tier at base game trucks, why even wasting money to buy it? JAT? Gooood, scouts got their second life! JAT? Baaaaad, it's pay to win, it's like a cheat code! Free trucks in garage from DLC? Yes, I paid real money so I want it INSTANTLY! No free trucks in garage from DLC? Devs, are you kidding me? I paid for it and I CAN'T use it? Are u serious?! So as you can see, it doesn't matter what Saber do because everything will be considered as a bad
The simple answer here is if you don’t like it for whatever reasons don’t buy it. I enjoy my fleet. This is my favorite game and I’m glad for new content that keeps it fresh. Not saying every dlc region was a hit, but I do look forward to new maps. The replay ability for base maps is very good, but not endless.
I got the mastodon out with a friend. Told him that I can help him with it but he has to pull cargo. He went around on roads and I just put a point and went. Is it op? Probably. But as anything, it's a choice...
I guess for me, it’s different. I started this game way back when it first came out. I used base game trucks, I found out about the Azov, and used the crap out of it. I stayed with vanilla trucks for the first two season passes. Then I checked out mod trucks. See, I typically only get to spend 2-4 hours a week on my console, I have a busy family and a full time job not in the gaming field. For me, the joy of being able to complete more than one or two tasks in a sitting is more than grinding out and still being on Ontario for six months. Yes, I grinded out my levels with the Azov and Kaz Bandit until I hit a wall in Amur. I still don’t like Amur, even with OP mod trucks.
@@SD1ONE sadly, the mod community is strong enough in SR that it really comes down to the integrity of the player. Yes, I believe we should all try to play the game with vanilla trucks like the Azov and Bandit and appreciate the grind and it sounds like you believe the same. Reality is, even without the pay-to-win idea of some DLC, there are enough folks out there willing to mod and/or cheat through the game instead of playing it as it was created.
I wanted to avoid stand-alone DLCs from when I got the game since they would ruin the fun, so i just bought all 3 year passes and moved from one map to another to find new upgrades for and trucks.
So I will say the Tire DLC should not have cost money it should have been free(and appropriate levels attached IE level 7 for off road, and lvl 8 for mud and so on). I don't mind them having truck dlc that gives good trucks. I just wish that when you start a new game you didn't have to do a New Game+ just to turn off the DLC trucks. I wish it gave you an option if you wanted access to the DLC trucks or not. So you don't start with over powered trucks. Because when playing NG+ someone might think you messed with some other settings.(I know this point doesn't matter entirely but if you were showing off to a friend it might) At least with Hard mode you don't have access to them. But I can see that some might not want to play hard mode just to not have access to dlc trucks from the start.
Two word - hard mode. Some of stuff that you mention, are eliminated in hard mode. You don't receive truck after purchase dlc, you still need need to buy it. Other stuff, I kinda agree, and not. I like new regions, and I know someone need to make them, and this cost. You can easily finish base maps with base truck, and it's challenging, yes, but this game is about that. For me this game without new maps will be dead after 200h, no more. But I've 400+. I love my mastodon, and it was painful to save 200k on hard mode, but when I got it, I use it less than on normal mode, why? Fuel consumption, and full cost money, a looot of money with mastodon. What I wan't to say, pack like JAT are to much, new regions are fine for me. They introduce seasoning for this game from the beginning, and for me this fair enough.
I wouldn't have an issue with it if all the new upgrades for older trucks were given unlocked by rank, and excluding scouts (cause lets face facts, scouts in this game are junk period), JATs should've been locked behind rank with normal tires. With standalone DLC trucks, i do think they should be locked rank according to their capabilities; but the new trucks should be locked behind a fair bit of work though. If anyone wants to jump ahead and run easy trucks, or unlock whatever at level 1, there's NG+. Personally, that's the only mode i run cause then i can whatever theme i choose to and make the tiny difficulty of this game harder as i want. I wouldn't say pay 2 win cause this isn't a competition. The game's only real difficulty is just slogging through mud trying to find a winch point. After a few seasons, money is no object. And not tipping is just a skill issue.
I understand the purpose of the video was to criticize microtransactions for damaging gameplay or the game as a whole, but after seeing all the added content and the option to purchase the 4-year anniversary edition for $74, it doesn't seem like a bad offer. I have the capacity but lack the funds for it. If I have the funds, I would be open to experimenting with it as I only briefly enjoyed MudRunner before losing interest and abandoning it.
Live service games. Get used to it. I bought year 1 - 3 passes plus the game for $50. I’m happy with what I got for how much I spent. My favorite part about the game is the maps. So beautiful.
I am not sure if these "accusations" are true most of the time. I wont defend saber interactive but paytowin doesnt apply to a PVE game surely and dont see the reason why wont we buy trucks that are a bit easier to drive or have more add-ons and such.
@@thugdragonz Judging by the reactions in the comment sections and in Steam. Not so much. Also youre not really an expert on this so youre idea weigh the same as mine so thats it then.
i mostly play hardmode so even with the dlc trucks money is still a problem. Only the scout truck where a liitle bit better in hardmode. But after i got the tuz i never used them again
I’m not gonna say it’s a non-competitive solo/co-op game like everyone else (even tho it’s true and just GTF over it) Here’s my argument: Complaining about Super trucks and OP DLCs is like complaining about mods. The fact that there’s a mod browser in-game makes the whole P2W truck thing moot imho. I can see the argument for new players making the game way too easy by buying the stuff, but I mean that’s kinda their fault for not playing during the games base years and not getting the true experience when the game was barebones content wise. I played at launch. I used all the base trucks. I preordered the premium or ultimate edition. The Navistar lacks diff, addons, is fuel thirsty, and really wasn’t all that much useful beyond a certain point, so idk how ppl considered it P2W. Same with the Khan Marshall, yes it very outclassed the Chevy and Hummer (just like basically ALL Russian trucks did in the base game compared to US trucks), so ppl claiming that the Marshall was an unfair advantage is again moot. It wasn’t invincible and it can’t even tow trailers, so again not P2W. But all the crybabies bitched and nerfed the Khans fuel tank to a lousy 11gallons, so all of us that paid for the ult edition or the high roller pack essentially got robbed of a good scout because of all the whiners.
Why exactly is Pay 2 Win in a singleplayer/cooperative game such an issue though? If it were online mutliplayer against other players I could totally understand this being a problem, but in a game like SnowRunner, which you play WITH others, I don't. If you buy a DLC and it's Pay2Win, all you do is take away a bit of the challenge and thusly potentially some of the game's fun being offered. However, if you like going the easy path without having anyone else "suffer" from it, this is perfectly fine. Obviously I am only referring to things like the JAT pack or standalone DLC trucks here. Some of the upgrades, especially the impactful ones, being behind paid DLCs is an issue though.
Okay, getting something like better engine for old truck in dlc is okay for me, it's just quality of life. But giving 6900TS awd in dlc is asshole maneuver. It's not a quality of life, it's must have. You literally turn Twinsteer from highway heavyweight/rollover raised goofy into powerful all-terrain badass. It's better to give P16 awd in dlc instead of Twinsteer as P16 is pretty good even without it.
standalone IMO are stupid, you buy a better version of an older DLC truck and thats all you get, but they are quite overpowered and you can just use one truck instaid of having to use a verity of trucks. I think that Sabre needs to make some serios balence changes (they probibly wont to make the dlcs look better for their gain). I actualy dont use dlc trucks that much if they are too overpowered, unless I absoloutly need it as for dlc locked upgrades, Sabre should make a level cap on them instaid of a paywall for BASE GAME TRUCKS of all things
If you played the base game without DLCs... you already had the best experience this game has to offer...Other season pass DLCs won't make as big of difference... avoid phase 7 though that's the weakest one... rest it's upto you

0:11 in my theory you need to start a new game+ where you can operate thing and making the game yourself, but one downside is that it lacks tutorial and tutorials were made for new players now players would litterely press new game+ bc they might press something very very off about the game lol
So, Here's my reply to some common arguments against this video:-
- Argument 1: Pay to win can't exist in single player game
My Reply: Pay to win is just general term that I used to show greedy practices, yes almost every game dev nowdays do such practices which kind of normalised it but it still won't make it right. Locking stuff that should be part of base game behind some paywall isn't right. The basic meaning of pay to win is paying for something to get edge over any challenge that game offers whether thats other players in online games or difficult terrain in this case.
- Argument 2: Game is too hard for me so its ok for me to have mastodon, etc from level 1
My Reply: Firstly the mods exist and they're free, Secondly if you want mastodon from start without doing anything what's the reason to even play the game, In that case you would get bored within few hours and would never touch this game again because there's no challenge left.
And I 100% agree on the lack of buffs for base game trucks or buffs by upgrades in DLCs, it's a pretty bd practice in my book.
well said
I think you should have an option when setting up a new game: lock all dlc content from begging. So it will be unlocked via playing like all other content. And you will not get trucks for free from start
Some people don't want to use mods though, I'd rather pay for good trucks made by devs then use mods
Buying DLCs partly to upgrade my Base game trucks might annoy me the most out of anything else in Snowrunner
Absolutely! The fact that the very first truck you get (GMC MH9500) has its Engagable AWD locked away in a DLC map is disgusting! The truck is basically useless without that upgrade.
@@Drakey_Fenixsame twinnsteer. With awd for me is one of the best track

Yea thats for most part exactly what I did too, though I did it more for the new maps but the new trucks are a side bonus
Youre right, but i have now over 600h so its impossible without DLC🤣
You forgot the original pay to win truck, the Navistar. Preorder and you get to destroy the first two regions with no resistance except ice.
That is very true, although at least the navistar was somewhat balanced by its horrendous fuel efficiency forcing you to use it for short routes. New dlc trucks don’t have such limitations.

@@aviano72 yeah and then you get bored of the game a lot sooner since there is no challenge.
@@Drakey_Fenix Do you know me ?? Do you know all players that play this game ? We are all different and play how we like it.
You didn't even mention just how much better JAT Tires are compared to Vanilla
Regular MS I for scouts is only 1.6 mud rating while JAT MS III are 2.5 thats a full 0.9 increase
Regular MHS I tires found on most trucks have a 2.0 mud rating while with JAT you get MHS IV with a 2.6 Mud Rating which means that it doesn't even matter if your truck came with MHS II tires anymore which had 2.4 Mud Rating as JAT MHS IV is on all trucks.
This too, yes. And they are available from level 1!
You are free to choose your own "difficulty".
exactly . i read the title and i was like "in non competetive game ?" BUT hiding base game vehicle Upgrades in a DLC is kinda cringe but meh who cares.
@@niklasniko2850 This "who cares" attitude is why things get worse and worse in every facet of life. People need to drop this apathy behavior or everything is going to shit. A good example is with people that refuse to think that privacy is important online, and use arguments like "Well Google already harvests all my data. I don't care what they do with it"
PirateSoftware said it best: It’s not pay to win, it’s pay to lose since you can blitz through the game faster and not experience it.
one of my hot takes about SR is none of the trucks outside of the scout class or the smaller 4x4 offroad class trucks should have roof racks, the mastodon has a 500L fuel tank as it is it shouldn't have a roof rack
I'll disagree with you on that and rebuttal with, it's a single player game and if you don't want a roof rack on heavy trucks don't use it. If others do when they get them they can have it. We shouldn't be punishing people for what they want to use in a single player game. Roof racks on the bigger trucks are extremely nice to have especially in the more serious regions.
counter argument... mods exist and they're free
Yeah, the Khan 39 felt wildly OP at launch, and now we have insanity like Kola that make it feel way less invincible.
By the definition of the said term in the Cambridge Dictionary:
"Pay-to-win - The practice of paying to get weapons, abilities, etc. that give you an advantage over players who do not spend money".

I bought the year one season pass when I first bought the game, so I had some stuff in advance.
If you bought the game with your OWN money you play how you like . I dont see any problem here
I can say I fully agree with the DLC vehicles being available at the start.
Amazing video.
I feel like there is a mixup in the seasons in upgrade for bse trucks 🤔
(Shows Amur but says season 1, shows Kola and says season 4)
Yeah, I got confused between those two as both are similar-ish regions.
@@SD1ONE Very true ^^
Honey look, an entitled poor
from where you pirate your dlcs? aiming to do that as wellf rom now on cuz fuck those developers
@@cowboy0370 hey look, a moron who spends his money carelessly laughing at people who aren't like him
I think it makes sense that better upgrades are hidden in DLCs since they tend to be harder than the base game.
I hate the thought of having bad or even no upgrades in DLCs for base trucks.
That's not the point... how do you think people who haven't bought DLCs would feel about locked AWD, etc stuff
3:00 to your argument of why unlock other tires is that MSH II, DMSH II, AMHS, TMHS are all slightly or significantly better than JATs
Scout JATs are better than normal mud tires but otherwise yes, JATs are not the absolute best
Wait isn’t active suspension for azov 7 in Amur?
Yeah, he put season 1 and 4 not right. It should be inverted instead.
@@Алекс-у1ъ5шthat was a recentish patch…
@@AceOfBlackjack what patch are you talking about?
Thats kind of the point of the DLCs. You can complete the OG content with the OG trucks.
Exactly
But there is no excuse why OG trucks have upgrades locked in DLC maps. Like the very first truck you get access to in the game (GMC MH9500). It has its Engageable AWD locked away in the Kola Peninsula. That truck is useless until you get that specific upgrade, and you can't get it unless you buy the DLC.
I absolutely agree with you man
even tho the difficulty is self chosen here, it is not available to regular guys.
this is a good game, but it still has those p2w stuff sometimes.
this is why i went captain jack sparrow
still my version lags behind updates.
I always sold anniversary trucks at the start of each game and just kept the Navistar it's an insane truck
If you're really worried about other players having it easier then you should be advocating for mods to be banned as well, because half of those give you free access to super trucks that are superior to every official truck.
but isn't the the option to buy stuff to avoid progress bad enough... It wasn't the case with mudrunner.
@@SD1ONE Agreed!
I find that I sometimes go back to the older trucks just for the challenge.
But I'm glad that there is an easier option for players like my gf in that case.
but should those options be paid? I mean if game is too hard for casual players isn't that the responsibility of devs to make it easier for free
But do not put the upgrades in the DLC regions, that’s just disgusting.
and as always great video
Thank you for pointing this out!

@@SD1ONE don't disagree. Normal mode is broken IMO. Hard mode should be the normal mode.
So that it would actually be harder.
hard mode should have harder physics not just finance management
I've just bought all the year passes because the maps look cool.
Sometimes I like the trucks. (P512,ZIKZ 566A, tuz 16, tuz 108, and f,750.

I still waiting for them to add an option to remove the rear winch addon for the freightliner m9....
I probably should get the tire pack. I buy the seasons, but have nothing outside of that
imo its ok to support developers for the best offroad game ever ❤😎
In Hard Mode, you buy it just to save up 220,000 credits to buy it again (for real).
I am not against OP trucks but only the fact that they're avaialble from level 1 with everything unlocked.
Amur is a frozen hell, no matter what trucks you use
@@SD1ONE sadly, the mod community is strong enough in SR that it really comes down to the integrity of the player. Yes, I believe we should all try to play the game with vanilla trucks like the Azov and Bandit and appreciate the grind and it sounds like you believe the same. Reality is, even without the pay-to-win idea of some DLC, there are enough folks out there willing to mod and/or cheat through the game instead of playing it as it was created.
having to buy a dlc to use all wheel drive in an offroad game is wild
I have over 1300 hours of gameplay and I don't regret any $ spent on all the add-ons
The only op truck i bought was the mastodon, but that was mkre because i loved using it in mudrunner, not because its stupidily powerful
Amur season 4

I agree they need to go into the next game.
i tried khan 39 in a michigan swap and i loved it
I dont see any pay to win here Becuse its a sp game but i agree how they are doing with the dlcs its not great
I understand the purpose of the video was to criticize microtransactions for damaging gameplay or the game as a whole, but after seeing all the added content and the option to purchase the 4-year anniversary edition for $74, it doesn't seem like a bad offer.

I disagree a little with the super trucks part because if I'm buying a DLC I have to have a reason to also use the truck
To be fair, if the DLC wasn’t OP nobody would want to buy it. We don’t want every truck to feel the same
I’m not gonna say it’s a non-competitive solo/co-op game like everyone else (even tho it’s true and just GTF over it)
Here’s my argument:
Complaining about Super trucks and OP DLCs is like complaining about mods.
Some of the upgrades, especially the impactful ones, being behind paid DLCs is an issue though.
hey i mean they need the money to pay the license
I actualy dont use dlc trucks that much if they are too overpowered, unless I absoloutly need it
as for dlc locked upgrades, Sabre should make a level cap on them instaid of a paywall for BASE GAME TRUCKS of all things
If I ever get a PlayStation card I'm going to buy the r e z v a n i tank DLC the 6x6 one
And probably the tire pack
Honestly SD what DLC do you think I should buy
I have kola peninsula
Maine
And another one that I forgot
If you played the base game without DLCs... you already had the best experience this game has to offer...Other season pass DLCs won't make as big of difference... avoid phase 7 though that's the weakest one... rest it's upto you
@@SD1ONE I always play DLC's
@@SD1ONE I'm thinking I'm probably going to get the resvani 6x6 tank
And probably like whatever the thing was that comes with the Pacific p512
@@Whyisthishere2 resvani 6x6 is great at ''light off roading'', but it's strugles in mud.
meanwhile Apache out perfom it in mud, if you look away form it's few weakness being slow, fuel thirsty and AWD must be allways on.
@@antcommander1367 ok

So end of the video I say who heave dlc they said good game and the other guy who heave no dlc just game he said it's booring.. What you think m I right??
0:11 in my theory you need to start a new game+ where you can operate thing and making the game yourself, but one downside is that it lacks tutorial and tutorials were made for new players now players would litterely press new game+ bc they might press something very very off about the game lol
