There was a time when I kept asking my Grandpa to play VR every time I saw him and he always said "Nah I'm too old for that" but finally he gave in and so I hooked up my vive and got him in and ever since then every time he plans on coming down to see us he always calls me ahead of time asking me if I'll have my VR. He absolutely LOVES it. I've recently moved out of state and I feel bad because I want him to be able to enjoy it as much as he possibly can because (and this isn't me trying to be morbid), but he's pretty old and no one knows how much more time he has left in him. I sure hope it's a lot because I love seeing him get excited that he gets to play the VR, it warms my heart
I've seen a (very limited admittedly) experiment on youtube where a non-gamer was asked to try playing a variety of games. The VR games were by far the easiest for them. This is because VR is using senses and controls the non-gamer was already familiar with. In most games, there is a whole language of games that teaches a player how to play. The more games you've played, the more intuitive this language is to you. It gets to the point where an avid gamer can pick up a game in a genera they have never touched before and be capable in that game in less then ten minutes. A non-gamer will not be able to do this. You throw in VR however, and the language changes. Instead of the language that gamers know from the 10s of thousands of hours spent playing games, it's the language of life. Hand, body, head. All of these things are aspects of life we all know. The gamer may still have an advantage in the games, but it is severely lessened. The non-gamer no longer has to contend with a foreign language.

These Elders have been exposed to a lot of tech and modern culture just by being on this show. I find that a lot of elders adore the tech but quite often abhor the culture. The way of the aged.
Watching tech develop through your life is rad. People that played pong when it first came out, or even those of us that are younger that played the original Oregon Trail as elementary students, have gotten to see this shit get seriously awesome over the years from a very basic start. VR is awesome, and I can't wait until there are gloves to use that let you feel things. Keeping an eye on the research.
Haptic gloves already exist. They are just a little expensive (like $1000). But there is supposed to be a new consumer version coming out this year around $300-$400 per pair. So we’re pretty much there now. In a few years when we get to gen 2 they will be really good.
I watched a documentary where they had just created movies in a theater. The audience was sitting there as a train came toward the camera. About three quarters of the audience stood up and began running away. Gosh we have come a long way, even since this video came out.
