    1. Why would you not get the Fly More Coverage on a drone this expensive? Are you crazy?
    --Crazy, maybe a little. As to why I didn't get the coverage was because I naively made the assumption that this drone would be fine with all of its additional avoidance systems it has to offer compared to everything else I've flown before. With 6 years of drone piloting experience and no major crashes, I just saw the $399 price tag for 2 years of coverage and figured eh, I'm fine with saving the money. Wrong. Don't do that. Get the coverage yourself! Save the money in the long term.
    2. Will you make a video talking about your repair experience with DJI?
    --- Yes, I plan to! Subscribe for that! Could be a while though until that is released with it being the holidays & me not having Fly More express coverage.
    3. The Mavic 3 is NOT a SkyDio 2, you know that right?
    --- Yup, as you can see in the video, I gained too much optimism in the APAS 5.0 system DJI has to offer. Always remain pessimistic about autonomous systems!

      Have you asked DJI if they will replace this drone due to the sensors failing to do their job? I personally don't trust any drone around wires or trees without leaves. Not even the Skydio 2.

    Sorry about the mishap. But hey, using your tracking feature around trees with thin branches😮. Yep, what were you thinking. Doesn’t matter if it’s an M3 or Skydio2, thin branches and thin power lines can easily do them in. Never let my Skydio2 get near thin branches, and never had an issue with it avoiding larger objects. I also always have State Farm insurance in place (and I’ve never had to use it so far). Good luck with the repair!

    Sorry to hear you crashed (Or that DJI crashed) your new M3. Also, I laughed 😅 when i saw that you actually graphed out your confidence for us. I can tell you poured your heart and soul into this drone and I felt genuinely bad when it crashed and you were talking about it on the bench. Hopefully you've got this resolved already at this point in time. And I don't use the DJI care refresh myself..I have all of my drones ( except all my FPV diy builds) insured by state farm on my personal belongings insurance for camera equipment. I have my MA2 and my Autel Evo 2 fully insured and pay about 60.00 per year for the coverage. Anything goes wrong to the point it costs around what the drone costs, I can turn it in and get the full price of the drone cut in a check sent. After you use that once though, I believe you can't insure drones anymore but it's up to their "discretion". The man told me if I don't turn in more than one per year they might keep letting me insure the drones or they can opt to say no after you turn in 1 incident. Whichever..I love the Fully Autonomous Autel Evo 2 pro. I have never had any issues even near scraggly trees hard to see by camera sensors. I've had a tiny scuff with a power line one time with it but it was after I took over controls when it stopped autonomous flight right in close proximity to about 8 powerlines going in different directions while recordingmy 7 yo son on his electric dirtbike. I tapped an insulated powerline with a tip of my Autel Evo2 prop Thank God. I was a football fieldaway when it occurred and tried to recover myself when I tapped it though. Great video editing 👌 and sound editing Carson. Good job on your review bud!

    I don’t trust the obstacle avoidance at all. My DJI Air 2s has crashed into trees three times when tracking, thankfully with no damage apart from broken props. Now I never use the tracking unless in open space with no obstacles

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, which feels like it defeats the purpose, right? It's a shame the obstacle avoidance isn't better than it is in DJI drones, because if they could improve their game there they would most definitely have a one up over brands like SkyDio

    I’m so sorry to see this happened to you, 😢 technically you didn’t crash the drone it crashed itself. I agree with you on all points, I bought it and ended up selling my Mavic 2 Pro and I’m wondering if I’m going to eventually end up regretting it. I hope DJI either replaces it or you get a reasonable price for repair. Wishing you all the best Carson.

    My favorite quote of yours “what was i thinking trusting APAS”. Yup! Me too. This video could have easily been me. I also crashed my M3 with $350 in repairs followed by being gone nearly a month. There is a big design problem here: You HAVE TO TRUST ASAP because of advanced RTH. Just like you i hit some whispy leafless tree branches. Fine i can be smart enough to never use active track in a situation where APAS is required, but with the new ARTH capability its going to take some crazy path that could easily hit those same trees. So i guess RTH is no more either. IDK, I’ve lost a ton of confidence right now. Is it a firmware issue? Maybe? I’ve seen Air2S videos with active track do AMAZINGLY well and yet you and i hit tress in minutes causing $100s in damages. Let’s hope it gets better. At least for now I have zero intention of running any of the autonomous modes for quite some time. I just don’t have $3K to keep throwing around!
    Sorry for the trouble you had.

    • @stefanbuscaylet
      @stefanbuscaylet 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok fine APAS can’t see whispy tree branches. How the heck can the new ARTH work then. I guess that can’t’ be trusted either. Ohh i guess you can fly places without trees, sad i live in Sacramento which is coined the “City of Trees”.

    I really hope DJI replace your drone free of charge. Not only have you promoted their drones in the past and no doubt helped sell a load much like myself, but this was NOT your fault, and it should NOT be something that you have to pay for, even if you did have DJI Refresh. This is DJI's fault, and they should step up, the rushed update release for Christmas sales should not be your problem. I am with you on the complaints, such cheap ass moves by a company I've heavily invested in.

    The Mavic 3's telephoto sensor surely pulls off the "Vaseline-covered lens" aesthetic, making the Mavic 2 Pro's 4K HQ mode video look sharp. 😄 Maybe it'll catch on in the future and will be coveted.
    EDIT: It's not my drone, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not feeling second-hand sadness and anxiety at your Mavic 3's demise. I'm surprised it broke so much for not hitting a very hard surface.
    My M2P auto-landed unexpectedly into a tree, flipping over, hitting a concrete roof and falling from about 20 feet. It only broke a single prop blade and dinged the side of the camera gimbal and a small area of the chin fairing.

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, for sure! Also, don’t sweat it! My mistake for sure for trusting the autonomous system too much, I’m very hopeful that DJI will replace the drone as I’m sure it’s not a complete loss, but I wouldn’t wanna risk the crash affecting things in the future. As far as your incident, that is quite the crash there! That’s incredible it didn’t break more. I can’t believe either how much the Mavic 3 broke apart, even with the leaf covered ground absorbing some of the fall. My guess is the majority of the damage occurred within the tree, as it was pretty violent in the tree before the motors shut off.

    I would hope that DJI would at least partially cover the cost of this repair as it was flying on its autonomous mode, as for the telephoto lens, it is not designed for actually taking photos regularly, its usage is more geared for things like search and rescue and exploring, possibly other uses like surveying buildings and objects and so forth, it is not meant as an actual daily driver, i agree with the stock controller kinda sucking for such a premium drone, as well as not using the go4 app, it was so much more versatile and pro suited especially when paired with the old controllers, they should have redesigned the old controllers to be more playstation like and then put the phone holder and antennas at the top, a cross between the old and new stock controllers

    Everybody knows that small trees can be a Problem for the Sensors. This has never changed. Why everybody think that with Active Track 5.0 the Sensors detect also small trees? They never told you that! Active Track 5.0 has 360 degree view at the M3 and it give you a smarter Follow mode etc.
    This is your fault... not DJI
    With the M2 or the Air2S everybody knows: don't fly with Follow mode where you have small trees / branches.... why everybody think that this has changed with the M3? The Sensors has the same sensibility.

  • @jeffpattison6321
    @jeffpattison6321 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, I have been testing the latest firmware with my Mavic 3 and the RC Pro. It's even more buggy with the RC Pro. There are problems which cause the DJI Fly to think that the Mavic 3 has disconnected when it hasn't. In the previous iteration of the firmware and software, it would just hang there with the video greyed out and the link light showing green. Now, RC Pro cuts off transmission which forces the Mavic 3 to return home. This signal loss bug appears to happen when the amount of data being processed is at a peak level like doing a screen capture while using Active Track 5 when airsense begins chirping out warnings about an aircraft entering your area.
    Also, I noticed that the Mavic 3 flies more erratically during a screen capture using Active Track 5.0 than not. If it's fully autonomous, it really shouldn't have an effect on flight behavior, so I am at a loss to explain it. Unless of course, the RC Pro starts bombarding the Mavic 3 with incomplete signal packets which would explain all the signal errors that show up in the logs during screen capture. And, it appears that DJI Fly has a memory leak.
    While this release seems to be more buggy than average for one of DJI's firmware releases, it is not atypical for the early releases of new hardware to be buggy. It's the price you pay for being an early adopter. That being said, I wouldn't take an immature system out of the box and put it in a difficult situation like you did until I was confident that it could be relied on. While APAS 5.0 is good, I am not sure I would trust it to avoid defoliated branches in the treetops while running something else that might be taxing its processing power. There are other videos of Mavic 3 crashes and near misses which proceed yours that show that APAS 5 isn't up to avoiding twigs. After looking closely at your video, I can see that the sensors are picking up the branches, but I can't see that the drone is making any meaningful effort to avoid them like it was with the tree trunks. So, this could have been another information overload situation in which the drone decided to let inertia and gravity take its course.
    You do have my sympathies though. Crashing is tough, but at least only wallets, pride, and trees were hurt.

      @kevinryder5246 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4/3 sensor stands on it's own, most would buy the drone just for that sensor in the same way that people went to the M2Pro for the 1" Hasselblad, the 2nd camera was meant to give the drone some extra utility and was never marketed as anything more than an exploring tool.

I am thinking of only using this for open area or high elevation shots, and using something cheaper for active track around trees. That being said, I am sorry for your loss man :( I hope they repair it. Try to file a claim with your credit card, AMEX has purchase protection for 90 days, other card have similar programs for accidental damage.

    DJI has no strong competitors in this market, and by making a sales strategy, it saves many features for the drones it will release in the future. If no one buys the Mavic3, they will release mavic3s with more features . then we can consider buying a drone that is worth the money.

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will say now that they released the firmware update that included many of the features missing from launch, it is quite an amazing drone. Worth it for $2200 if you only fly a drone here and there? Probably not. But, if you're someone who needs a really fantastic primary sensor on a drone, the DJI Mavic 3 has got you!

    Mavic 3 is the drone to skip. I put my Air 2S in active track and walked through heavy woods and tons of small limbs and vine’s and ran to try to lose it and it didn’t crash. As a matter of fact I bought the Air 2S as soon as it came out and I still have never crashed it and I push its limits.

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, the Mavic 3 was in the hands of users as beta testers well over a month prior to release, so there was that, but I'm sure they started mass production before then so there coulda still been issues they wouldn't have been able to fix once production neared. As far as the software, I'm not sure how they do that. I don't believe they have a beta testing group, but they may. Nonetheless, there are surely improvements to make both in hardware as well as software!

      APAS and other initial missing features were on the test drones sent out for review. If you dont know when and how the drone was tested, please avoid making silly assumptions. APAS does not work well around small branches, same for all DJI, Autel and Skydio drones

    • @motojake1485

      @@kevinryder5246 So why is there so much wrong with it at launch. Oh yeah DJI did a great job. You don't like it because somebody comments about the issues it has. You jumped in thinking it only had a firmware update for Activetrack etc. But it has loads of issues, 2nd camera, etc. Then there is the silence from DJI on the C labelling. MAVIC 3S will no doubt be a more popular choice, as for the Mavic 3 I hope they get it sorted but until the DJI can swivel!

    • @kevinryder5246
      @kevinryder5246 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@motojake1485 See this is the problem, you want "C" labelling done by DJI when the international standard is not finalized or implemented yet! I have no idea what problem you are talking about with the second camera, have never heard anyone say it was not working as intended! There are very few issues with the drone at launch, and DJI was very clear in their media releases that some functionality would not be available at launch. Most of those features are on the drone now with their initial firmware versions. The rest of the features, including revised versions of existing features will be released in january. DJI never considers a product complete and is continually tweaking and making their products better. When/If a A3 or A3's is released it will always be a step behind the latest Mavic version with perhaps some gaps depending on product release cadence. SO if you want to keep buying the mid-range Air lineup, good for you, I will always be looking at the Mavic line for my drones.
