She could be a lamb, or a lion based on how she was pushed. I have always loved this class. The one I have in STO I named ROBERT BALLARD. Thanks for a great video as always!!
I always liked this class. It is such a cool design that uses the Galaxy-class elements. I'm glad that you finally gave this ship appropriate impulse engines!
In my head, I always wondered, in-universe, if the Nebula-class was a cost-effective compromise after what had to be a very expensive Galaxy-class. Still top-of-the-line but uses less resources to construct and maybe cranked out in shorter times and in larger numbers. And that replaceable mission pod had to be considered a bonus. Need a larger science package with more labs and sensors? Done at a starbase. Need something with more punch? Here's our pod with more shield generators, torpedo launchers, phasers and maybe a ECM suite. Need more cargo space? Here ya go!
The modern (I'm 45, lol) take on the Galaxy class, and will always be a favorite of mine due to it's take on the Miranda class. Fabulous video, thank you so much!
I used to hate the 'squashed' look of the Nebula, but I've grown up since and saw it's charm and I appreciate it's fit-for-purpose design. I also really love how you come up with a lot of this contextual information, it's nerdy Star Trek creativity at it's best.
I have to say I always loved the nebula class, also when you combine the nebula sensor pod with starfleet ability to read cadrassian ships transponder codes they code track any ship they wanted.
I'm sure I speak for all that we are well pleased for the advance in the schedule. I've always liked the idea of the Main Cruiser and a compact 'Little Sister' such as the Miranda and Centaur classes. Along the lines of the Heir and a Spare concept from the Constitution/Pyotr Velikiy pair from the Starfleet Museum fan site- most of the function of the main without the bulk.
I loved the Nebula class for its amazing versatility. The swappable mission pod makes it ideal for everything from long range surveillance, border patrol, and combat, to medical and civilian evacuation.
I was thinking the same...the galaxy class was my favorite and first trek ship I've seen period but I feel like the Nebula Class was the only true success of the project galaxy story. The galaxy class while pretty good overall really just had the enterprise and USS Galaxy itself held that class up mostly
I've always liked the Nebula class. I feel it has often got more hate than it deserved and I'm glad to see it getting some love in the comments. It made sense as a design. Much of the same spaceframe and many of the same components as the Galaxy, with the New Orleans class as a testbed. I like that the pod could be fabricated or swapped for mission-specific. Sensor pod, weapon suite, diplomacy and admin, cargo or shuttle support. Even though we only saw 2 designs on screen, the concept was there. Keeping those practical design elements from Constitution / Miranda. Galaxy / Nebulae. I recently found one for the Apollo Class which is the compact equivalent for the Ambassador, another great design that makes sense in lore. Some designs are so well made and yet don't feel like Star Trek. Great vid as always.
You could tell me I'll be able to pick any ships in Gene Roddenberrys Star Trek and this, this one right here is the one I'll pick anytime and any day. Love this little ship.
I always liked it from the moment I saw it. We finally saw a Galaxy variant in detail. Aesthetically, it does look crowded at the bottom, I would have preferred the nacelles to be a bit further apart and lower. On the other hand, it did give the impression of a lot of ship in 'relatively' compact warp bubble suggesting high performance. The Galaxy development was a long process with smaller ships leading to ever larger and more advanced ones as the technology was tested, refined and improved as new tech was developed. To me, it made sense that the New Orleans class saw action in the Cardassian War, but the Nebula Class either didn't take part or was an unknown element for the Cardassians. Clearly the Cardassians were to be surprised by its capabilities. What with that huge sensor module, it ought to have taken the job of the Oberth? Too much ship for a routine utility job is probably why it didn't? It's probable that Starfleet is, or was, mostly made up of smaller ships with only a relative handful of the large and colossal scaled ships. Many of those smaller ships remaining older designs that new ships couldn't soon replace? Doubtlessly, the Nebula suffered from the 'apartment building in space' issue as the Galaxy did. Designed for being a pleasant workspace as much as its utility and trying to avoid being seen as a 'warship'. Still, even after the Battle of 359, the Nebula would remain a prestige heavy cruiser of Starfleet until the new cruisers and battleships were brought out which would have been some years. Even afterwards, upgraded versions still being able to pack a punch and having great utility support while newer, more tactical, ships took the forefront in battle. The Nebula might be more salvageable in an advanced tactical Starfleet than the Galaxy for its compact design and modules.
I always thought they should have made a small ship to fit on the top of this ship, something for independent planetary surveys and for anti piracy action.
The Nebula is my favorite. From the first time I saw it it caught my imagination and I love the way it is shaped. I do wonder about the length/width measurements that are on record because it is wider than longer if you measure any model. I wonder if that is the sensor versus weapons pod which is longer.
I chopped and glued one of the original micro machines enterprises into a nebula class. The one before generations that didn't separate. Still have it sitting next to the Farragut from the generations set
When TNG came onto TV I wasn't wild about the Galaxy class. I got used to it kinda but never fell in love. The Nebula is cool. You write better Trek than the "pros".

Me too! I was excited for a moment when he said that he was using a new skin and updates, had really hoped that included the 3rd nacelle version... But, sadly no such luck. 😭

No, not really... From the outset the Miranda Class was a light cruiser, with a workhorse mission profile... The Nebula Class on the other hand was a Scientific Heavy Explorer Class, very different from the Miranda Class!
I really like the design, but disagree that it should be an Enterprise. Enterprises have always had a certain look, and the Nebula Class doesnt follow that look...
Agree with TriAngulum, I love the Nebula Class too but Enterprise needs to have that classic design element. I think if the NX class had been given the secondary Hull, even mid-show, it would have helped popularity and fan loyalty to the show.
Ok I give you that one. I didn't like the Enterprise D with that short squat secondary hull compared to the saucer section. The Nebula I know has the same parts but with them slung under the saucer, it just looks right that way. Big but compact, elegant but deadly like a Nobel scientist with 2 MAC 10's strapped to each hip.
@@jamesabernethy7896 I think the plan was to have that secondary hull on the NX done in season six. A shame Enterprise it was just a late bloomer and a victim of the fan schism.
The Nebula-class could-have, if not Should-have been more powerful than the Galaxy-class was. Both from the terms of firepower with the torpedo/phaser/sensor rollbar, and then the more compact design to enable the Nebula-classes' greater resiliency from less area to cover than the Galaxy-class in a battle situation. It may have been slightly slower, fractionally perhaps than the Galaxy-class, but far better in a firefight than the standard Galaxy-class vessel could do.
