Been down the river Fal this afternoon and found three beautiful brown crab while foraging.
Brought them home, popped them in the freezer for 30 mins, did the spike wiggle procedure, then returned to Jay for advice on how to proceed. Absolutely beautiful!
Moving down to Cornwall was the best thing I have ever done for my family, and me too!!! 😍 🦀

Smash, here is a tip for cooking crab and lobster. To get rid of the smell add 1 can of coconut milk to your water. It works amazingly!

@April Shallow I suppose giving it a shot might help. But I've never tried it that way. Sorry.

In my land it is a sin to eat the meat of shellfish and sea creatures as it’s the devils meat.
For crab we eat the gills and the shell and eyes as it is better tasting and more nutrients for working in the sulfur mines.

Yo Smash, dropping by my frequently viewed youtubers to say thanks. My right lung collapsed 100% (twice) and I've been in the hospital or recovering for the last month. Yalls videos really helped take the edge off. (Especially in the hospital when they wouldn't let my kids come see me for three weeks) appreciate ya man.

Since you’re using a chopstick... A famous Chinese novel (Dream of the Red Chamber, 1791) has an entire scene devoted to eating crab. The most desirable parts were the brown meat and roe served with vinegar and fresh chopped ginger. Crab is really good that way. BTW, when my son goes camping, he just brings a knife and chopsticks. They’re light and extremely versatile. Love your videos!

Your so lucky to have such great produce on your doorstep. In my shooting days I was able to enjoy game & venison.

Truer words have never been spoken. Im lucky enough to be able to do some pot fishing myself. Landed 13 big lobsters in under 3 weeks of fishing. 10 more, but was released with eggs.
Crabs is in an abundance, and i can easily fish 100s of them in a few weeks.
Venison i get from my parents who owns Deer land. I dont shoot myself though.

It's interesting to see how people from around the world pick crabs. Here in the eastern US, I was taught how to pick blue crabs, and then when I moved to the west coast, I learned how to pick dungeness. We usually pull off the legs, then peel back the apron and pry off the upper shell while holding the bottom (leg chambers). It's both weird and cool seeing how other people accomplish the same thing. :)
It'd be neat if you and Fisherman's Life could do a colab some day since your channels seem very similar. (He does west coast fishing and crabbing and cooking out on the rocks, mostly solo.) Cheers man and thanks for the vid!

I was taught to crack the claws with a spoon 🥄 because it makes a hairline fracture instead of smashing it with eg a hammer, that makes the unvented fracture bits. Use the curved side of the spoon. It’s not as messy as a hammer.

As a crabby old man I just simply love eating crabs. Not the kind that you get from your girlfriend!
    On a serious note
I usually put some vinegar in the water when I put the crabs in the boiling water. It makes the meat comes out of the shell and claws easier.

The price of fish/meat (all food in general) gone up and become unafordable for poor people who are dying of hunger, so I have asked a friend of mine to promote and teach people to cooke and eat crabs (since they are almost free) or other sea food that these poor dont have idea how healthy and tasty they are but I was criticized and everyone laughed at me call me insane to ask those poor to eat crabs. RIP Africa.
