    +Thisoldtony. Without TH-cam, I imagine that Tony would just be some guy at a workbench who makes cool things and laughs at his own jokes ....and the rest of us would be worse-off. Cheers to TH-cam for providing a platform for kooks like Tony and a place for those of us who find machinist humor to be our favorite comedic genre. Heck, I don't think I would have ever known that Machinist humor was a genre or my favorite genre without this channel. This is simultaneously the best and worst multimeter video ever made -- nice work. Here's to hoping for an April Fools Day 2017 video.

    I use my DMM to measure tire pressure like this: ramm both probes into the tire (about 2 inches deep) 2. after 10 seconds pull them out again 3. after 10 minutes you know your tire is flat

    • @WirelessDude569
      @WirelessDude569 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Can you check your tire polarity aswell this way?

    • @David-wh8zs
      @David-wh8zs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Yes, but it only works with certain Michelin tires. You just need to take the red probe and point it at the tire you want to measure for about 20-40 minutes and your neighbour will tell you that you look like a very professional idiot.

    • @kistuszek
      @kistuszek 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Thing is, it actually works. As long as you plug it in with the right polarity. The oversight is that -as you know it- it is alternating current, so periodically you have to switch the polarity to match with the grid. As long as you wont forget to keep it to the right polarity it will work just fine.

      @aliveandwellinisrael2507 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One other use I've found really helpful in a pinch is the speed function (V for velocity). The speedometer on my tractor went out a couple months ago when I was plowing snow. (It's important for the snow curls to come off the plow in short 6's and 9's rather than big rat's nests or they fall back in the road and cause problems). Surface feet/min is an important parameter to monitor as you are plowing, and the optimal speed varies with wet or dry snow and blade angle. Well, back to the multimeter. I plugged it into my tractor's instrument panel (red to the battery, black to the clutch throwout bearing ground) and it reads speed. Works like a charm!

Just when we think weve seen it all you slam this hilarious bit into our online menu, and were so glad you did. You missed your calling I believe, someone with a mind like yours should be part of the school curriculum, kids would never be bored with a bit your humor interjected into otherwise boring tutorials and lectures that are often the norm. The only thing that bothers me is you show all these amazing gadgets but never tell us where we can get them-!-are they custom one-offs or is there a store somewhere that sells digital 1-2-3 interfacing micrometers with language capability-?! I dropped a pair of metric channel locks on my multimeter and now it will only measure in degrees Kelvin during daylight savings time adjusted to the central mountain zone. It's very confusing.

    • @EvenTheDogAgrees
      @EvenTheDogAgrees 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Very confusing, as there is no such thing as "degrees Kelvin". Fix that rip in the fabric of spacetime on your living room wallpaper and try again; it might be interfering with reality, causing the nearby DMM to measure stuff from the next dimension over.

    I reckon my Multimeter must have been made in the same factory as a sat-nav because when I try the 'backlight and belleville washer stack' function a softly spoken woman's voice says to turn right in 100yds, 200yds etc.
    Is there a way to check software version? Is there a way to find out who that woman is?

    I've been enjoying your videos for a little while now. Was just looking at a video showing how to replace fuse in my DMM (I couldn't work out how to get it apart) and youtube suggested this video. Thinking I might learn something I watched until you got to the metric/imperial bit...then checked the date of the video, which here in Australia says 31st of March! Glad I know something about multi meters and international time zones, otherwise I'd still be watching.

    If you put a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in your red sauce, you can measure the ACidity in the micrometer mode. The black lead goes into the flame or directly onto the element depending if you use oxy-acetylene or 3-phase. The red lead, obviously, goes directly into the red sauce. Bon Appetite! BTW, this video made a lot more sense to me than those mechanical devices you make. Thanks for sharing. ~guido
