    I wondered at first "Why on earth are you using Windows XP as an example? This is 2019." Then I realised you made this in 2010. Proof that this learning is still relevant. Btw, your teaching skill is fantastic. Well done.

    With SMB, If "person A" open the original... and "person B" gets the read only file.
    How can person B make any changes to the document?
    Would "read-only" not suggest that he has no write access?

    Library software very popular at law firms as well. Every law firm I have supported used library sharing technology.

    Ultimately, what is this difference between SMB & Library? Surely they are one in the same? SMB notifies you that the original document is already open for editing, and so you create a read only document. However, when using the Library type it notifies you that the original has been "checked out"...so is the ultimate difference that you cannot open even a read only copy of the original?

    On 11:00 sharing files by many users is not a real problem. Only users with Write permissions lock files! So, if only one Group has Write Permissions and others have only Read permissions, a realistic scenario, the group with Write permissions does whatever it wants with the files, including delete them, even when other groups are using those same files!

    real time collaboration is useful for certain processes where each person have their own portion of the document to modify. It is used in the military for just this sort of thing. Imagine a T table where each participant 1 has the left side of the table and participant 2 has the right side of the document.

    The server has 4 NICs and the second Hard Drive will not be local. The business is very small and very little data being stored and transmitted, but the data is still important. Your help is needed.

    real time colab good for audio i would think... is that doable...convo and music and stuff. live painting. oooh that would rule. multiple artists on a network .. i'd turn their caricatures into ballchinians. or ya know add to the awesomeness in my own way

    can BELLY logging from any computer to his account and use his home folder and files ?
    i mean does it matter from witch computer BELLY will access the network in a domain environment

  • @georgigeorgiev728
    @georgigeorgiev728 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not exactly. In the current situation read-only means that someone is using the original file and is making changes to it. It's like your rights to modify the file are temporary taken away until that someone finishes his work with the file :)
