  • I need to attempt a halt on buying as many books as I do so here are 10 books that I already own that will be read this year. I'm pretty psyched on this list and would love to know which bookshelf books you guys are tackling this year. I also need to shower but thats neither here nor there.

You've quickly become my favorite TH-cam guy. All the awkward intros, losing your train of thought, and rambling on about things are what make your videos great, so please don't edit them out. With almost every video on TH-cam having a like a hundred cuts, having some with no cuts is so refreshing. Don't change please....

Kind of makes it more real, like you are just chillin with someone. When you talk to people in real life, it is never perfect, so I like it too.

That might be the translation by Constance Garnett
She translated it about 100 years ago, but it’s readable for sure.

Insane list - you have a four of my favourite ever books. High Fidelity, To Kill A Mockingbird, Words of Radiance and The Goldfinch are all on my favourites shelf. All very different in terms of genre, prose style, complexity etc and all great for their own reasons. Definitely worth keeping High Fidelity for after one of the mammoth books - Nick Hornby's books are great for just getting back into the swing of reading after a long slog because they're relatively short, uncomplicated prose with snappy characters and fast-moving plots.

Shirley Jackson is my favorite author and I'm reading/rereading all of her works this year, after dipping back into "We Have Always Lived in the Castle," which I first read in 1974 in a sophomore-year high school English class on 20th century US literature. The teacher, Mr. Huckaby, loved Jackson's work and did a terrific job of teaching about it. I'd read "The Lottery" in 8th grade and been blown away by it, and have been hooked on her works - fiction and nonfiction - ever since. Great choice. Every time I read it, I'm left stunned, even though I know what happens.

The Bee Sting is a great read… it’s propulsive … from start to finish … has lots of drive … I used to work at Mr Chips…in the Upper East Side way back in the aughts & I waited on Harper Lee a few times… she would drink decaf with sweet n low … reading the times … I asked her one day… what’s on the mind of the great Harper Lee & she said Nothing much … just reading the paper… she was pretty low key… for such a brilliant writer …
On another note … a couple recommendations… The Known World by Edward P. Jones … Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell…
& on yet another note I’m eager to read Prophet Song…& Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow …Birnam Wood…Parable of the Sower… plus I hear a lot of booktubers rave about Claire Keegan …

TH-cam put ur video in my feed. I enjoyed it. As far as an intro i preferred yours over watching the ones that are 2 mins of watching them make ice coffee!! I really like the look of your bookshelves. The two tones look good. Great video.

If you haven't read Crime and Punishment, please do. Possibly the greatest closing statement ever made in a novel.

Love the videos. I appreciate the different genres you read (I do the same). How about some murder/mysteries some time, maybe some Agatha Christie. Keep it up!

I've never seen my reading history/taste overlap with a TH-camr so well as with that stack. This is the first video of yours I watched - I've read 5 of those books and 2 more of those authors sooo 7 out of 10 books! Words of Radiance is one of my favorite books of all time as well as Tress - I hope you enjoy them! So I think I gotta check out Into Thin Air and High Fidelity and perhaps another Larsson (I wasn't a big fan of Devil in the White City - the writing was good but the content was not for me). Anyway, I'm subscribing 😊

Yay! I’m currently reading The Brothers Karamazov. I’m totally intimidated by the size, but it’s split up into part 1, part 2 etc. (or maybe it’s book 1, book 2🤔) but it’s helping. Also, I’ve had to write names (some have several names they go by) on my bookmark. Which really helped in the beginning 😊

Thats is so sick! Are you enjoying it so far? The several names for the same person thing is going to kill me, I just know it lol.

@@booksaresick Yes , I’m really enjoying it. It’s quite fast paced. And I only needed the names on the bookmark for the beginning, you get used to who’s who quite quickly. I started just reading the first names, as they still call each other by their full names! 🤣 So, I just skip the last names now.

New subscriber (from this video!) so I’m not sure what your tastes are like, but if you like Irish authors, I’d suggest Did Ye Hear Mammy Died by Seamus O’Reilly. It’s his memoir from growing up in Ireland with 10+ siblings and a single Dad, and it’s beautiful and hilarious. One of my favourites from last year! Also anything Claire Keegan :)

I saw an Orange amplifier in another video, now seeing an acoustic guitar and a telecaster in this video. What kind of music do you like to play? I love your new set-up! I hope you love We Have Always Lived In the Castle. Just know it's not a horror story, some people say they went into it expecting horror and when it wasn't, that hype they gave themselves ruined it. But it is a 5 out of 5 book in my opinion. (The Haunting of Hill House was 5 out of 5 for me, too. Shirley Jackson rocks)

Excellent selection there! I also really want to read The Bee Sting and continue with The Stormlight Archive this year! Think you're going to love We Have Always Lived in the Castle - it's so tense and brilliant

Ok so now I think I'll pick 10 books from my collection to read this year. Great idea. Will make me feel better when I start looking for some of yours. Like Bee Sting. Let us know if you like it.

The Brothers Karamazov is the only one of his books I've read, and that was during the summer I was 16... due for a reread.

Just read “We Have Always Lived In The Castle” a few months ago and LOVED it. If Gilmore Girls and The Addams Family had a baby, it would be this book. So good, so thoughtful, so Shirley Jackson. Excited to hear your thoughts!
