    Don't know if anyone will still be reading comments on this particular video, but just want to give a quick update. I tried to use a windows 7 laptop to change/add/remove roms on this device, but couldn't read or open the hidden partition on the supplied SD Card despite following the advice from you good people. I recently bought a cheap Chromebook, and found that this gave me instant access to all the details on the SD card supplied with the Y6. Subsequently I've been able to tailor the roms that this device can play, including removing games that I aren't interested in, and also adding other roms. Despite all my tinkering, the Y6 continues to work and plays the roms that I've added! Really nice to see PSP games running on my TV, and on such a cheap device - great shout Mr. Dweeb!!

      Sorry for the noob question but if I wanted to back up the card on a more expensive/reliable card, can I just copy the files to my pc then drag them onto a new card?
      For some reason I keep seeing stuff about using a specialist program to make an "image" etc...

    • @robertsutton6459
      @robertsutton6459 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Just a quick DISCLAIMER first - I'm a noob, and a pensioner too, which factors in it's own problems, lol, so none of this response is based on any sort of technical knowledge, just my own experience with this device! As you can see from my previous posts, I've only been to fully access the SD card supplied with the gamestick on my chromebook, so haven't been able to do anything with it on my Windows 7 laptop. I downloaded all the files on the gamestick onto my chromebook, then transferred them onto a SanDisk SD card, but it wouldn't work on the gamestick. I'm only guessing here, but I think that maybe when you switch on the gamestick, the emulator gets a boot instruction to look for specific files that are on the hidden partition, which i presume has a drive no. (?). As there wasn't a hidden partition on the card that I "made", then that's perhaps why it wouldn't work? I think that the idea of making an "image" of the original SD card may work as, in theory, it'll be a direct copy? I haven't had chance to do this yet as I need to do a bit of research into how to make an image. If you try, and it works, please let us know here. Good luck.@@anamomonouse

      @@anamomonouse The whole "the included SD card is unreliable" schtick needs to die off already. Most people brick their SD card by powering it off during a write or some other end-user behavior. It's possible these SD cards are an old stock of a slower speed, but there's only a handful of facilities in the world that can make an SD card and I assure you they aren't going to deliberately make "bad" ones.

    • @BandoidView
      @BandoidView ปีที่แล้ว

      The Firestick is real PITA for doing emulation (I have the 4k Max) and , in the end, I decided it was absolutely not worth the headache, which is disappointing because it would have been a really nice bonus. Amazon just really doesn't seem to want you messing around that way because of the security on that thing. This game stick would be nice if you have the extra HDMI port and you don't care about the aspect ratio issue.

    Here recently i have become interested in emulation.I discovered your channel about 3-4 days ago and have watched a good handful of videos. Really have enjoyed watching and listening to you. Great little sprinkle of humor mixed in with very easy to understand information on the products you cover. This might be something i try out as i'm brand new to emulation. This one might be the good starting point. Yeah i'm with you on the aspect ratio and not being able to change that. But i can adjust my tv to fit that ratio like you showed with how you did that. Might be ordering this tomorrow.

    Man. Technology has come a long ways in 20-30 years. Remember when we used to have to plug giant cartidges into a clunky box that would blink red half the time, along with multiple cords and a 50 pound converter box?
    Watching this makes me wonder if they could design a similar device, with an option to plug in an SD card or thumb drive with other interfaces and multiple preinstalled games.

    I personally really like having full control over my retro game collection, even though it can be a massive pain in the ass at times. But I also know that most people have no absolutely desire to mess around with emulators, cores, front-ends, controller mapping, scraping for box art or any of that stuff, so I can see this being a good option for them.

Cons: Some games are harder to work with the controllers (Star Wars arcade and Star Trek) and it starts to warm up. But this is great for what it is. Wow, that's a surprise. Emuelec 4+ is supposed to require at least 2GB ram, yet usually incompetent Powkiddy made it work on a cheap stick this well. Wow.
    I always thought your viewers are more technically inclined and knew what those emulation drives were the moment tgey saw them, I completely forgot how it was being new to the scene. You are educating new generation of techdweebs!
    That said, I've had my eye on that V90 for ages, but never ordered. First packages started arriving late, or even never during Covid. Now, we've got either very expensive shipping, or very insecure, with 10% of goods not arriving and Aliexpress almost always siding with the seller. We don't have Amazon here (we can order, but with crazy shopping costs). I'll have to start and prowl ebay, maybe that's a new place for my country.

    I just ordered one! The one question I have is about lag, some reviews said there was poor input latency. I know there are a lot of variables to consider such as line of sight, distance, etc... and that makes me think user error is possible. Could you give your opinion from your experience with the Y6 on its input response time?

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't notice any lag or latency. My test is to play a shmup, if those feel perfect to me then I'm happy. And they did, here, when the device was plugged directly into the TV (I did notice some latency with my display capture, but that's pretty normal).

I have an old andriod box with same chip and more ram on it so I think I will just get a spare SD card and boot it with that.
