Wow, Jarrett is fantastic. Loved how he bravely put out his personal story and showed a tenacity of keeping his stuff out there. His idea of having more than just his book and graphic novels to rely on is exceptional. Great to watch and will need to check him out on his stream.
I'm a current hs sophomore and I remember being obsessed with the lunch lady books in elementary school... it's so cool to make that connection with someone I look up to now
Wow! I was really touched by Jarrett’s story. The take away for me is never give up and learn to do something differently when xyz isn’t working. For instance, Jarrett sending out post cards to publishers was brilliant!
How inspiring, and what a grounded and kind person. This is the kind of work ethic I’d like to have! Also very moving to hear the story of his grandfather offering him whatever museum art class he wanted. That kind of support from family is such a beautiful thing.
Wow, thank you so much, Mr. Krosoczka! And thank you Art Prof for this stream! As someone who also had a hard childhood, this reminded me that I can still do and achieve the things I dream of.
Growing up I didn’t draw more than most kids Or draw lots. But a memory I remember is I was sitting next to my dad or on his lap and he drew me a little cowboy and an airplane And I was ReALLY impressed. I asked him to draw more but he didn’t. It wasn’t that technical but as a little kid I loved it. Another person that inspired me later was my aunty. My dads sis . . One time she drew a face. And I was also Really impressed and wanted to be able to do that.
I have had a similar experience with my dad! He insists he can't draw, but when I was a kid his little sketches were the best things I'd ever seen :) Thanks for watching! - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff
Hey do you think someone can get accepted into an art college (for an illustration major) like RISD if we don’t have any realistic pieces?I hate drawing realism and still life’s because it’s just not my style. But when I look at portfolio all I see is realism.
I think it really depends on the school you're applying to! I think the most important thing is variety. We have a bunch of videos about art school portfolios if you want to check them out! They might be of help to you: th-cam.com/video/JorldSWJD1M/w-d-xo.html - Mia Rozear, Art Prof Staff

I read his autobiographical comic “Hey Kiddo,” at least 3x. I rarely re-read books! -Prof Lieu
