  • I wanted to show an alternative to how Luther got to know of the molecule chamber.
I always thought it was implausible that Lex believed that Superman would trust him and that Zod couldn't hear them with his Superhearing.
Lara introduces the molecule chamber as a emergency solution against the phantom zone villains.

I know they couldn't secure Brando to reprise for Jor El for these reshoots to the Theatrical Cut, but Kara's Actress was pretty damn good at conveying how grave a Threat Zod is. Strong second choice!

Is not that they couldn't secure Marlon Brandon, the producers wanted to replace him in the first place so they didn't have to pay Brandon royalties for his performance in Superman II. Brandon already shoots all of his scenes for Superman II directed by Richard Donner and as a way to prevent the payment of royalties Richard Lester re-shoot those scenes with Susannah York. By the way, all scenes of Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor in Superman II were directed by Richard Donner. In some shots of this version, Lex is played by a stand-in and his voice is dubbed by some actor who can resemblance Hackman's voice.

@@saturninhabitant That seems to be the selfish, capitalist way: every dollar you pay labor is one dollar less in profit you will have. A zero-sum game.

Interesting to watch right afte I watched the Donner version, which was displayed on the same page. Most of the lines are the same, with Lobot getting to read the tree poem and Lara talking about Zod and the chamber. Didn’t realize the Donner Cut used alternate takes of Hackman as I really haven’t watched the Lester Cut since the Donner Cut came out.

The one thing I don't understand is, How did Superman's mother didn't realize that wasn't Calell she was talking to.

The way I see it, most crystals were merely interactive holographic records or simulations, with some rudimentary AI included. They could understand different languages (Kal-El wouldn't speak kryptonian, for he never learned it), but didn't have any facial nor voice recognition, because they couldn't anticipate how Kal-El would sound or look as an adult.
The green crystal is a different story.
I believe it contains Jor-El's essence, it is basically a carbon copy of his personality and memories

Joyce Kilmer lived from 1886 to 1914. In the first film Jor'el tells Kal'el "by now I will have been dead many thousands of your Earth years". Having said that, how did the Fortress of Solitude database contain that poem, since it would have been compiled long ago?

If Superman's mother saw Lex Luthor in the Fortress of Solitude and realized that she's an enemy of her son,she would make him and Eve reschmacher scared and maybe try to imprison them. Eve Teschmacher seemed to forget that Superman saved her mother from a missile that was headed for Hackensack,New Jersey and later saved her from being dumped into a pit containing Luthor's pet monsters as she was being punished for saving Superman's life so that he can save her mother and many lives in California.

The way I see it, Lara is just some kind of interactive recording, whereas the Jor-El in the fortress is the essence/spirit of what Jor-El used to be (he kinda uploaded himself or his personality into the green crystal, which is both a memory stick and a power bank, that can store huge amounts of energy).
The crystal is basically a kryptonian flash drive/USB-Stick.
Sadly, Ms. Teschmacher isn't the first (or the last) girl, who can't get out of a unhealthy relationship or get rid of an abusive boyfriend.
      Still happens way too often...

Yes, about Ms. Teschmacher, I was sorry to see she/Valerie Perrine playing someone who was dating a really low character/abusive person like Lex Luthor who obviously had little respect for her or her mother.
