    Great overview, Paul. Simon did such a great job on these mics/mixes. Loved hearing his insight on outriggers, makes a lot of sense, it is a rather addictively pleasant slightly out of phase sound! I love dialling some in particularly on horns/bones. Cheers.

    I just wanted to say the best advice you gave was "listen" to the samples in context. I, for the past 30 years have been trying to perfect the sound of orchestral instruments BUT mostly doing this solo, per instrument. I have mostly been dissapointed with the results. BUT, recently it just clicked and getting the sound right in the mix is what matters........do more composing then get the right sound you really want at the end when mixing........I've started composing again and not messing with templates etc :)

    Thanks for the clarity on the mic uses at the end, I panicked when I first bought this library bc I overloaded my computers cpu with too many sounds with all the mics on a session. I will be doing what you do and go back with the mics well after a price has been written

    Thanks Paul. This is very good, very helpful. I am new to Spitfire, the interface, and even to orchestral sampling in general. The only suggestion I might give is to include some quick photos of the actual mic configurations/set up. It just helps me to picture what's going on even better. I've seen you include that in some of your other Spitfire videos and it really helps educate us amateurs! Cheers!

    This was very helpful. I being one individual who loves mics positions such as BBCSO and Hans Zimmer libraries due to the massive mic positions.

    Great video, thank you Paul! The tone of this lib is outstanding, not the least due to the lack of hard reflections in the AR1 room even when using more distant placed mics. Now back to work on the legato patches :)

    Paul, it would be very helpful if you guys put some indication of mic intention/usage on the interface. Perhaps color coding the mics in groups as they are intended to be used.
    Also, the ability to save mic mix presets would be useful.

      If you hover your cursor over the various microphone sliders, a description appears to the left of the keyboard on the GUI with brief descriptions. For example, on MIX 1 it says: "A full room mix by Simon Rhodes, formed from the Tree and Outriggers with a curated blend of spots. Use for luscious, rich passages."

    • @kentismybestfriend2799

      You also have the ability to load and save mixer presets. When you are in the mixer window these are the two icons below the Abbey Road ONE logo.

      Thanks Clay - as mentioned there's some detail in there - and you can save mic presets and reload

    Hello Paul Thompson, are you by chance the composer who made some of the music for Little Big Planet? I just realized why your name sounds so familiar. I've been playing Little Big Planet since I was 11 and it would blow my mind if somehow the universe had made our paths cross again. I've watched a ton of your review videos and it never crossed my mind until now!

    Thanks for that Paul... I'm still torn between this and upgrading to BBCSO Pro in terms of having control of the individual sections... any thoughts on the major differences?

    • @mrmindstorms
      @mrmindstorms 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would go for Abbey Road. Whats really lacking with BBCSO disc/core/pro is dynamics and thats were Abbey shines + the different mics. Use Abbey as a foundation and BBCSO for some details when needed, mostly layering legato would be my feeling.

    • @PaulThomsonMusic
      @PaulThomsonMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess you gain the extra instruments as well with BBC Pro, or you could get additional new sounds with AR - a difficult decision I agree!

    Paul, do you know if Simon added the spill mics to Mix 1? In my template I have everything set to Mix 1 + Spill mics. It sounds fantastic and I haven't heard any phasing issues or anything like that so far, but still wondering...
    Thanks!

    • @d_lydian

      Nope, the Spills are always a separate recording.
