I don't want to spoil this movie, but it's definitely on my recommendations list. But apparently an explanation is needed....
    SPOILER......
At the VERY least, the entire movie is a dream from a man who is processing his mother's death. You offhandedly mentioned that it might be all in his head. That is literally the point that this is in his head....
Now I have a different interpretation. (And I think more accurate interpretation). This is a mash-up of a traumatized man processing the death of his mother. His mind is racing with emotions and memories and it needs to conclude to letting go. He didn't experience the film that we watched. It wasn't a dream that he had. We watched a film that you could piece together if you were in the mind of someone who was trying not to have a mental breakdown. It's a complete mess. We as viewers got to experience what he was feeling through a story, he actually experienced it without the privilege of a story.
I loved the movie. I absolutely recommended it immediately. But boy did I need a pallet cleanser. It's not a fun movie. Even when you have a somewhat happy ending where he lets go of all the trauma.... I find myself still carrying it.

We mentioned it “might” be because this was a review recorded after its film festival premiere, and it wouldn’t be available publicly for another year.
